    Wonderful! In 1983 aged 20, I won a competition in Exchange and Mart and the prize was a days driving at Brands Hatch. It was driving Ford XR3i's with an Instructor and then on your own in single seater Formula Ford cars. It was one of the best days of my life and that single seat view is the way I remember it. Thank you!

    In this car you actually lie on top of it, the water pumps from the radiator to the engine are on the side. During red flags in hot races where the heat soak comes through, you can get blisters as the water temp goes above 100 degrees c until the air flow starts.

    Blooming brilliant Richard. Great to see the GP circuit being used. I never quite got the right braking point after the bridge, so difficult.

  • @richardbradley58

    Thanks! It’s a mega track, shame it’s not used more. Which braking point, last corner or at the end of the back straight into Hawthorns? They’re tricky as you can shift the balance quite a bit on entry due to the nature of the corner…as you control this car with the throttle and the rear steps out with inertia. Hawthorns is an early light brake and then try and apply a bit of throttle to lock the diff and gain rear stability… the last corner is more aggressive to generate weight transfer to the front and provoke the car into the apex a bit earlier.

    @@richardbradley58 Super quick response old boy. Yes, agreed on both corners but I was talking about after Surtees into Hawthorn. I wanted to carry speed but always chickened out and touched the brakes. Your brake bias seems rearward from here. I tended to stab the brake into Clark which got the brake round...sometimes too much.

  • @richardbradley58

    @richardbradley58

    Unfortunately Formula Juniors aren’t allowed to have an adjustable brake bias by regulation, as the discs are inboard on the rear they overheat very easily… we found evidence of a BT2 running rear ducts in period through a photo of one at Monaco so we have made a cure for that issue since the video was recorded but they used to overheat and lock very easily, after about 5 laps before the ducts.

    I miss Brands as an F1 venue! Pretty brave taking a vintage Lotus that quickly around Brands Hatch - not exactly known for its wide run-off areas on the GP extension! I mean, let's be honest: Lotuses from the 60s and 70s weren't exactly unknown for suspension and chassis failures (not to mention wings). I'm hoping at the very least the entire suspension system of this car is of modern manufacture, pick-ups included. Nevertheless, you hung it right out there, providing us mere mortals a fantastic view of a difficult vintage circuit mastered by a superb driver in a high-strung car. Bravo!

    This car is a Brabham and is my own personal car and I use it for training and to shake the rust off. Whilst all the cars I drive are original, all of them get crack tested, lifed, x-rayd and are all load bearing parts are treated the same as we would any modern racing car. Much appreciated, hard to find a better track/ car combo!

    It’s not a modern track at all. It hasn’t changed much since it was hosting F1 races in the 60s. Hardly any run off at all on the GP circuit. Proper course!

    @@jameswilson461 Fair enough criticism, I should've been more to the point the layout of many tracks hasn't changed significantly. However, the track surface has, they're much smoother and they use a much superior and more durable bitumen mix today. Depending on the track length and difficulty you'd see substantial time improvements in the same car over 50 odd years.

    Ouch. Messy stuff. Lots of time/acceleration lost coming out of some corners, getting back on the power. Missed an apex. 2 bad gear selections. You become really fast when the gravity of turn creates the apex and you match it to the corner. It happened a few times so you have massive talent, but to pass opponents you need to find speed where they don’t. Good corner entry and early on the throttle will give you the velocity to beat them to the next corner. Get your nose in front and you can squeeze them out. Then be consistent. Watch Michael Schumacher videos, that guy was BRUTALLY consistent. Ayrton Senna, completely different driver. He was creative through the race and began to find new time saving spots. Which one are you? Ack what do I know? I never raced. Much.

    had to re-watch this: it looks to me like he was double clutching not a miss shift, as for the "missed apex" I'm assuming youre talking about kidney corner (or whatever its called today) & that isn't a missed apex, there are two lines through most these corners, early apex or late apex and seeing as you get the most stability and speed out of Brands Hatch by taking the late apex around most the corners... I dont know about you but unless I have paid or been given someone to be my trainer I wouldn't put too much energy into believing the criticisms of some random with questionable amounts of experience critiquing my driving. this is a damn near perfect lap of Brands Hatch, clearly you haven't raced/raced here at all nor done a lap of this place in sim. hold this dislike like it's my beer, bub.
