His story with Ryze, From The Ashes, is possibly the most beautifully written short story on universe and that says a lot. I have other stories as my personal favourites but the way stuff is written in From The Ashes is just so good. I think it is also one of the most mature pieces of lore league has ever gotten, with some very dark themes and implications. Feels like you wouldn't see a story like that come out today, unless it was in Arcane.

Personally for me 2 of the best stories are the Lissandra story( the one where she travels through dreams) and the Elko story. Cannot remember the names of the stories

The gasoline mentioned in the wiki is from the oil of a lantern. So that makes it a bit more fitting. Kinda funny that the wiki phrased it that way. My reading of Brand's transformation was that it is still Kegan, just corrupted to the absolute degree. I think Brand is the ultimate representation of magic corruption and the danger of world runes among our champions. It's the "absolute power corrupts absolutely" line personified. Brand is Kegan's worst aspects turned up to a 100.

I think i have a problem with fire characters, i think its going to be pretty hard to make him distinguishable(idk how to spell that) from the rest of fire characters in video games, everyone can say anything about Annie but her design is less of a mess compared to brand.

I really like Brand because of the thought process of his Ablaze passive. Some fights are better to E-Q-W, but against a group you might want to consider Q-E-W, and sometimes you'll need to use your W or R to get the Ablaze going. It just feels fun to me.

The “god dammit” when Zac jumped him made me actually laugh

If you look closely enough you might notice that brand is, indeed, on fire.

Here are my suggestions to update Brand's gameplay: make it so Ws gets bigger the longer you press the key, and make Q have charges up to 2 like Amumu's Q, and you can visually see it on his hands.

The problem with the w hold is that Brand's main weakness (other than no mobility) is he is a relatively short range mage. Holding your w to make it large wouldnt really do much for his game play. Also thats kinda Xeraths thing.

@@schaakakon9473 it makes you next abilities stronger since they can go of more targets, potentially, and having 2 Q's means you can actually control a zone for longer, makes your gameplay a lil bit deeper. Also, yeah Xerath might be similar (I dont think it is), but Riot made Akshan which is Lucian, Sivir, Camille, Twitch, with only his revive being unique, so Riot clearly isn't oppossed to similar champs

These videos are part of my morning routine now. Love this series dude keep at it!

I'm generally not one to be like, OH! that's a great update idea, or no that's a bad one, but the mask idea bring up a great link between his "im just a fire guy" and into a "chaotic/human side" of the character. because if that was done, he would have direct parallels with the Hindu god of flames and destruction, Agni. Being a 2 headed/2 faced god, with each head/face representing either the violent flames of chaos or the cleansing flames of destruction, it would make for another link with League's inspirations from Mythos anyway.(renek/nasus/wukong/A-sol etc.)

In the past i thought they should make Brand more close to what was imo the inspiration for the character, Surtr, the norse fire giant meant to start Ragnarok by burning the world tree. But now with his story with the world runes and Ryze, i think a possible update should actually be one that advances his story and makes him a real threat to the world. Make it so Brand gets his hands on a second world rune that gives him access to ice magic, making his body a mix of fire and frost. With that, a full rework on his gameplay function around the idea of each time he casts an ability, the next ability will be from the other element, making so additional effects are applied when Brand hits the oponent with 2 different elements and by what was the last element hit. For example, if his Q hits the enemy who was hit by a fire skill first, the ice version of Q stuns, if the enemy was hit by a ice spell first, the fire version of Q spreads to other enemies. I think this could give Brand a better gameplay, as well as giving him a different character niche (frostfire mage) to make him stand out more.

God damn, i was snacking while watching this and your rant about his belts made me laugh out so loud I choked. I should remember to never eat while watching your videos, they're a choking hazard. Also, that redesign for brand? 10/10. Give us something like that riot. Or everything else other than generic fire corpse bar code 12...05, with 6 belts for extra flavor

I remember back when i was still collecting the mage champions, i left brand for near last cause tbh his abilities are 4 flavors of damage in slightly different shapes. And that was before he got the exploding passive. His kit really only feels nice when you can cause that nuclear chain reaction in a teamfight, outside of that ehhh

ok heres a thought brand should have like multiple elements screw the all fire theme, the world rune can corrupt people and in theory should be able to corrupt him in like multiple ways. like off the top of my head he can like have an elemental theme going on with him his q can remain a fireball, his w can become a giant crystal pillar he drops on the ground rather than a pillar of flame and his e can become like water surging between different people and bouncing around. all of these abilities make much more sense thematically and gameplay wise cuz being honest the world runes being as strong as they are advertised only for them to be so weak they only make him a fire dude due to corruption is a massive design flaw in the character. oh and his ult can be like pure runic energy bouncing between people like a purple after glow or something and he can have like a giant crystal sprouting from his back like the world runes are shown to be. like make him a manifestation of the world rune rather than an impunitive mortal thing which can get tossed around by all of runeterra. And while were at it like make him atleast fly in some of his animations cuz jeesus fire dudes flying as old a stereotype as one can state.

I’m sure he’ll get a visual update eventually. I think most champs pre 2014 will eventually but he’s like the same tier as lux and Nami not nearly as bad as zilean or cho’gath

Ok so if we take the logic to the extreme, maybe, because some people in the freljord are pretty into attacking other people and destroying stuff they could be motivated enough to import some of that burny fluid from other nations (at least piltover would have some kind of similar substance)? But it would probably be called something different. Yeah that needs an update. He's actually kinda neat from a story pov cause he is a bit of a blank page, he could go anywhere and it wouldnt be out of place, if he got a new story it could be about anything. If they could make more story for him and tell us if he is undead or not, wether he is sentient or not and what kind of magic rune infused pants he is wearing, it would probably work in his favour. Edit: Ive given it some thought and I have come to two possible conclusions. Either Ryze has a habit of casting some kind of protection magic on his stuff, it would probably be useful since it would suck to have something important break when he is wandering around Runeterra. Say for instance making some paper fireproof, and while he is at it why not fireproof some clothes as well. So anyway, Brand stole Ryze's fireproof pants. The other conclusion is that there is a give and a take blah blah blah, and so Brand basically perished in exchange for peak quality pants. (I mean good pants can be hard to find I cant argue with my own logic here.) Enough pants, about the belts. So you know how he is always walking crouched? Well if his bones are as charred as his exterior he probably needs all the support he can get to keep his body together. The question is why aren't there more belts?

before I knew anything about Brand, I thought he was like... An escaped prisoner from Demacia, a mage that actually went mad with power and had to be locked away, because he was a danger to others as much as himself. All because I thought those damn pants reminded me of straighjackets (because of all the belts n such), and I thought he just burned off the top of some restraint suit they put him on. Having learned more now, I think I'll stick with my version. Not like they'll ever make him plot relevant again, anyway

My conclusion is that Brand's pants are stronger than a world rune.

I genuinely like brand 😢. The key is to build Liandry’s and Demonic embrace on top of his passive. U aren’t a burst mage. Use q, then e to get everyone Blazed then use pillar to chunk their damage and ult if you can. The most satisfying Brand moments are walking away from opponents and letting them burn to 0 as you stay safe

Honestly, given that they put Ryze into the Darkin Saga, IDK what LoR would even do with Brand. Best I can see is a continuation, maybe? Brand senses a World Rune being used and books it for Targon.

@@Art51151 I SINCERELY doubt that. Brand wants power to himself; that's his character and the entire reason he stands in opposition to Ryze. You really think he's going to go around SHARING World Runes? At BEST I can see him maybe making a cult of followers for himself by sharing FRAGMENTS of his own might, similar to what Varus is doing (assuming that's even possible.) Also Ryze already has all the World Runes in his vault, so I'm not sure how that would even work.

I'm glad you're roasting Brand and having a bad time because if you were genuinely enjoying yourself it might have got me back into the game. As an ex-League Brand main a lot of your problems are down to the character just not being your kind of thing. He looks fine, I don't care about model fidelity and his design is awesome. It's hard to see but there are magical swirls and patterns on him. His old lore suited him better, when Brand was some ancient concept of fiery hate. Not everyone has to be likeable, some people have fun playing the bad guys. If anything the reconceptualising of him overdid it. Not really a retcon when there's no continuity to erase...apart from the whole "League" part of "League of Legends" that has the old story where he gets captured and interrogated. Brand has had many bodies, so if they were going to update him, a new body would be a great way to show that. But of course...all those skins needing to be redone, Riot would never do any of that because his gameplay won't make anyone buy into the character. Gameplay...well after a break years ago I came back -still years ago - and found that they changed some stuff about him so I quit the game and never went back. His skills were easy to read and he was a deliberately straight forward character. He deals huge damage and has a scary dot, that's his thing it isn't hard to understand. Gragas made that difficult because of his sustain but that's the match up for you. Ezrael (the Dev) put him together in like two weeks and he just worked. Just because the amount of actions per second you can do with the character feels to some people like slipping into a coma doesn't mean there's a problem. But hey, as I haven't played for years I'm not the target for Riot any more so my opinion doesn't matter. Maybe they'll just turn him into some stupid wow boss like that terrible concept art and make that drive sales.

Brand is always my go-to ban on support I just hate the huuuuuge amount of damage in just such a large range, it literally takes 3/4 of health away if you arent playing a tank. Its just mindless to me.

I dont really have a problem with "fire guy". Brand is serviceable. Good enough. Much like Varus, he's a relic of old lore that simply doesnt visually match new lore, but they tried pretty hard to jam him in there anyway. I dont think they did a terrible job, and you could even do minor changes to brands current design to make it more visually clear that he is world rune related. Simply carve some runic looking shapes into his body. Maybe make the fire slightly blue ish to make it more arcane instead of just fire. But I dont mind most of the infernal skins either, which is something i find a lot of the league youtubers dont like. Nothing wrong with some fire. Its not revolutionary, but its not trying to be. Is fire guy.

Brand's in possibly the worst situation possible for a League champ: outdated and lacking in almost every area (design, model, gameplay, lore), but not outdated enough in any of them for Riot to consider him in need of any kind of update. He's doomed to be stuck with a report card full of D-pluses.
