Yeah that makes sense. She's just a character. Not bad but not exceptional. Still like her though.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I don't think Elise fits with the Shadow Isles at all. She and Vilemaw feel so utterly disconnected from the Ruination and the Black Mist that I honestly think the "spider god" would have worked better if it was like, some old deity worshiped by the Noxii tribes before the empire or something. Or maybe just a spider demon, since Mordekaiser apparently had a bunch of those in the Immortal Bastion.

@@Art51151 OK, I can kind of see where you're coming from, but Elise and Vilemaw would both need massive visual overhauls for that to work. Plus, we already have the Void god/cultist dynamic with Bel'Veth and Malzahar. I think it's fine having Vilemaw and Elise be their own thing... I just wish we got a proper explanation as to what Vilemaw even IS.

I think Elise could feel more interesting if she was more independent than just ANOTHER Black Rose asset. Some kind of mischievous traitor storyline could be interesting or maybe she learns the history of the Shadow Isles and thinks that she wants that instead of Noxus. Also when can Vilemaw become a champion pls. Edit: Bewitching Elise should have had a pumpkin as her thorax. Cmon.

I feel like Elise could work exactly like Princess Abby from Inuyasha. Princess Abby worked for Naraku for convenience to help restore her mother’s body who has been mortally injured. Princess Abby then betrays Naraku and “mortally” injures him along with her now fully healed mother. But then soon they realized that Naraku is still alive and good and he kills her mother. I think Elise should be 100% loyal to Vilemaw and only works for Leblanc for business but when the moment strikes she would betray her and perhaps that would cost Elise her life or Vilemaw’s or perhaps both.

I shed a tear for Ebonmaw when you brought up the Twisted Treeline.

For the gameplay, should’ve mentioned the repel. It’s one of the few unique movement abilities that doesn’t involve a typical dash or blink, which makes for a interesting way to go in and out of fights, especially when tower diving or escaping through jungle camps.

I feel like if Vilemaw received more lore purpose she could become an even bigger deal and pocess a better narrative perspective, as a double agent for one of the most powerful organizations in runeterra and for a deity of the shadow isles

@@Art51151 not necessarily, so far she works for both and is mostly just an asset to the black rose. A double agent is spying on one organization (therefore betraying it) to help the other, Elise as of right helps both sides and her narrative can't really progress anywhere from there because there is no twist.

I want an Elise skin where she is a contortionist and her spider form is just her bending her body to look like one

It's weird that around that same League Era we got not only Elise, but also Ahri and Zyra who followed more or less the same general concept (at least originally). I guess Elise kinda works better than the other two, but just knowing that it was more of a horny trend than a thoughtful decision makes it hard for me to appreciate her character for that.

Yeah, like most female characters back then, the focus was first on being hot and second being interesting on other fronts. Its honestly funny seeing some people defend that ''Its okay for a character to be hot! Hot girls exist too!''... like they don't need to be defended dog, they are 80% of the female characters ingame lol

Hot seducer that actually kills people? We got Evelynn. Hot woman that can change into vicious animal? Nidalee does it better. Rich noxian joins the black rose and becomes half-human? Cassiopeia exists. Even her login screen was done better than Lewis the gator.

@pokemonlover4894 I was about to say, Elise on release actually did "modernize" the concept Nidalee was going for by 2012-13 standards lol. Nidalee pre 1st visual update was a mess of a character and looked like an ugly unga-bunga laura croft rip-off and kinda was just a stat check. AD bruiser? AP poke? Griefing support? All were valid because the champ had no direction. Elise reminds me more gameplaywise of Lee Sin, which is probably why she gets more high elo love. Fulfills similar amounts of utilty, playmaking, phase of focus (early game), and similar levels of dueling and working with two sets of ability rotations, but AP instead of AD. Yes in an aesthetic "design" Elise could do with an update, but in raw play she does fine. Rappel in particular is one of my favorite abilities to this day, it looks insane on paper as a huge-range blink but has a lot of restrictions/nuance to it so you can get the spook on someone if you know what you are doing.

Cassiopeia got her punishment for being too greed from her own good and Elise just got Lucky that she survived

The casual series review has become my highlight watch of the week, good job man with the content, I've been eagerly waiting to hear your thoughts on my main Evelynn for weeks now

As an elise otp it makes me sad to see the lack of lore on her. But she's very fun to play and can snowball incredibly hard, I love the gameplay and am patiently awaiting more/better lore :(((

My opinion about Elise is that I can’t wait for Evelynn

Elise is one of the characters that really just makes me hate the whole Black Rose and their role in Riot's lore. There's like 12 champions that are all about the Black Rose, the phrase "Black Rose" appears in their lore like 10 times each and nothing ever happens with any of it I've almost started to filter this phrase out when I'm reading about League lore cause like 8 of these characters haven't gotten lore in almost a decade and eventually I have to ask, why are half these characters even associated with this organization, if you just replaced their affiliation with the Black Rose with literally anything else nothing would change about their lore and I don't think Riot will do anything with this thing until they rework or give Leblanc a full VGU and I think Leblanc is the character that needs it the most because almost 10% of the entire cast's lore is entirely centered around this dead end concept. Which is just an insane thing to think about, 13.6% of this game's lore relies on a character that looks like a stripper and makes street magician puns.

putting it like that, the black rose being secretive almost sounds like an excuse to just not delve into it any anyone affiliated with it. we know the black rose is at odds with the noxian government, they resurrected sion, and they forcibly recruit kids to join their ranks in a sink-or-swim training method (one of them being rell, who escaped and is now fighting them). at least with other vague groups like the piltover enforcers or mageseekers, there are not half a dozen champs representing them

@@Underworlder5 Yea exactly and unlike say the Mageseekers Black Rose storylines are just character + Leblanc with no variation, unlike say the Mageseekers which usually always center around Lux and Sylas and other characters like Garen and Jarvan occasionally adding depth to the entire thing. Would you like to know something sad? There are more characters in the game centered around the Black Rose than the entirety of the Shadow Isles (12 vs 10). More characters in the game are affiliated with this dead end organization than the Shadow Isles and yet the Shadow Isles feels like an infinitely more indepth and fleshed out region because it's not just Viego+Thresh, Viego+Hecarim, Veigo+Gwen but all of them interacting with each other and other characters from outside the region.

They should bundle both Elise and cassopia as a killing duo in the black rose

You touched on her E being a cool way to show her lore through her gameplay and I think this is shown throughout her whole kit. Since her human Q does %max health damage, that is another reason other than her human E to start as a human. She also spawns a spiderling to do the damage for her which is very black rose esque. This is shown again through her spider Q doing %missing health damage. Idk I just think it is well thought out thematically and a lot of champions recently don't show their lore through their gameplay as much as her.

Most of these champions were made during the time Lol defined themseleves as a Dota clones so most of the backstories were written just to describe the characters not to create an expansive lore.

I remember maybe at the start of Season 13, she was pick or ban, or maybe it was last year, and it was a terrifying time to play but yeah when items aren't busted, no one plays Elise. She's complicated like all champions that change form and I feel like they've released champions that can do the same stuff and more much, much easier and with a lot less effort than Elise so people don't prefer her

Its kinda sad because I LOVED elise when she came out. She had a cool (if used up) design, and before Evelynn was updated she was a much better pick for the seducer sterotype. I think the best thing they can do for Elise is to continue leaning hard into her spider form. Make her become more and more corrupted by the spider form, but like willingly walking into the dark.

The reason why she is only played in higher ELOs is probably bcs of her main gimmick being a dive specialist. She can come to the lane lvl 2, dive you and get out. In theory. But in lower ELOs players are just afraid to dive. Cant really value the gain from it. So they just kinda half arse it and then either both die, or just the elise, and then comes the spam pingnig and crying.

I remember spamming her in blind pick when she released, good simple times... She always struck me as this complete, high skill expressive jungler (the 100% to 0% combo, lvl 3 tower dives). When i hover over her in pick phase, i always say to myself "damn i wanna main her" but i always play her like 5 games in a row once a two months and then i lose interest in her (maybe because Ekko and Diana exist).

I hope they choose to bring Vilemaw (idk if thats how you spell that, the giant spider) back into the Canon lore somehow, like yeah I guess he's canon kinda, but only kinda

My experience through Elise is purely through LoR where she’s one of the best cards in the entire game, an impressive feat considering she was a release champion. It’s not even like she’s immune too power-creep, more so that she bends the power-creep to her will and becomes better for it.

Season 3 had a lot of champs that were "what if ____ but sexy?" With Ahri, Elise, Zyra, and even Nami to an extent that never really hit the mark for either lore or gameplay until later updates (except Zyra who is still Party City Poison Ivy). This reflection honestly makes me excited for the potential Season 3 rewind video.

Elise suffers from 2 major faults, 1 when she came out they had no idea how to balance her and she became an Aurelion sol before he was a problem, 2 it feels like they changed directions with shadow isle lore and decided to go with something else instead

Elise is easily one of the 10 best designs in league from a gameplay perspective. The comparison with Nidalee is understandable on a surface level, but their playstyles are very different. Elise's tools are more geared towards the classic jungling experience. She's all about ganking lanes and she has possibly the best tower diving ability in the game. Nidalee, meanwhile, is more about control, counter jungle, snowballing a lead through invading and counterjungling. They have their similarities, they even have the same objective: snowballing the early game. But their methods are very different. Elise is closer to Rek'sai in gameplay than she is to Nidalee.

You forgot that she also spawns minions periodically and her power at any given moment is strongly tied to how many she has available, so she has to plan her ganks around that, which is pretty unique, oh wait who's Naafiri?

As a Elise main I can say she’s super confusing for new players but is a high skill ceiling champ

a hard disagree, she is distintive enough from Nid as she is not long range and has a clear use of her abilities, not only swapping around like nid but with a clear case use of each form, and she has a lot more relation to Medusa than Cassio, as Medusa was cursed due to a MAN and Elise was as well, with Cassio being cursed by a old shuriman god statue removing the chauvinism of the story, and she is a seductress for political power while Eve is for hunger, in no way is she one of the best design of LoL but she does have a place within the current roster

my opinion is that leblanc cassiopeia and elise should form a polyamorous evil two thirds monster lesbian throuple (none of these words are in the biblej not for any particular reason but hilarity

Personally, I liked Elise’s old lore better than I do her current lore. After she was blessed by Vilemaw, she started a cult and would travel around as its priestess. She preached that her beauty, agelessness, and power were all gifts from her god and others could have it too. Then she would take her most loyal followers to the Isles to meet their new deity. But she was just bringing Vilemaw meals in exchange for more of his venom, which is what gave Elise her immortality and power.

I quite like this idea actually. I'm not a fan of characters who use people's horniness to attract them, in most cases it's just boring and generic. But, using that beauty as a display of the "gifts" of her god make it more interesting
