BRAKES for BIG RED - Replacing + Adjusting DRUM BRAKES - 1963 Chevy K10 4x4 - UTX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today at Ugly Truck, Big Red gets some new shoes! We're installing all new wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and master cylinder, and showing how to adjust manual drum brakes. In true UTX fashion, we end up replacing a couple brake lines and use way too much anti-seize. With the brakes stopping and new wheels and tires, this truck is one step closer to being back on the road!

I know this truck has been a challenge but thanks for sticking with it this truck deserves to be back on the road. As for lubing everything with anti-seize I believe it's a personal preference thing I use a similar amount and it doesn't cause any issues...The offset on those wheels was good ...they didn't stick out too far .Hope you had a good Christmas and Happy new year looking forward to 2024 I'm hopefully going to get my '72 C10 road worthy ....Karl from eastern Canada

Thanks Karl! We were a little worried about the 2" wheel spacers when we ordered them, but it turned out just right. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry

Old brakes are a slippery slope. I was surprised Jerry didn't replace the flexible rubber lines. He is very patient with the stubborn connections That rear lift block is crazy! You 2 should consider taking Emily's c10 on one of those week long drag and drive events like sick week of power tour. Good advertising for your awesome channel

I don't know why we still start a brake job like this NOT expecting to replace the lines... 🤦‍♀️ Surely we should have learned our lesson by now! I'm sure we'll make it to Power Tour one of these days. It would be nice to let the 70 stretch its legs for a bit. 😁 Thanks Bill! --Emily

I just changed the rear drum brakes on my Tacoma and I saved the shoes for the core change. And when I took them back the girl said there’s no core return and there hasn’t been as long as she’s been there. I laughed because apparently she hasn’t been there that long and apparently I haven’t done drum brakes for a while. lol. 😝 Older DIYer

I think the longer you can go without doing drum brakes, the better! 😆 Thanks for tuning in, Stevan! --Emily

That truck needs a disc break conversion after a complete frame blasting and repaint. That will be next week's video, right. 😊😊

I agree. It warrants spending some time and money on. If I could do that this next week, that would be great.. Thanks Randy. Jerry

Have you ever changed out the chain in a NP203 transfer case? I have a 78 K5 that has a lot of slop between the front and rear yokes and I’m dreading pulling that heavy thing out and going through it.

I have years ago. The 203 is relatively simple to work on. I wouldn't say anything bad about them. You are right though. They are heavy. Let us know how it goes. Jerry and Emily
