OUTTA SPACE - Tearing Down HIGH MILEAGE 6.0 LQ4 LS Engine - UTX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today at Ugly Truck, we're tearing down another 6.0L LS for an upcoming swap. This engine has 330,000 miles on it, and it looks like it had low oil pressure or was run without oil, but overall there are lots of good parts left. Hopefully we get a good crankshaft, cylinder heads, and engine block back from the machine shop. Be sure to stick around for the rebuild!

    @@UglyTruckExperienceHello I own a Chevrolet express 6.0 LQ4 with 90,000 miles, I live in France in a region where the climate is temperate, I do 6000 miles per year, I drive mainly in the summer, and I tow a 6000 lbs trailer, should I stick to the oil recommended by the manufacturer 5W30 or can I use a 5W40 for example???

    You know I’m watching like a hawk! Just posted my current project for sale, now that it’s running, driving, and has a couple hundred miles on it. A whole bunch of squarebody trucks are for sale in the area, and time is right to get a good one. Can’t wait to start on a swap!

    They really weren't too bad at all, but I'm used to seeing them after 150K. Pretty impressive how well they hold up, as long as they have oil. We have a donor here with 450K that will be an interesting teardown as well. Thanks for watching, Marc! --Emily

As soon as I pickup my rotating assym from the machine shop getting balanced, I can start the assym of my 6.2L. My grandson can't stop talking about it. I got Ford corporate Blue in yesterday. Blue is my favorite color. Not because of the Ls crown vic swap lol. Going to get new piston and connecting rods? There are Gen4 rods new/used sets for like $100 bucks ish. Lol

    Hello King. Yes, the truck that this came out of had been sitting in a field for a few years after being wrecked. I purchased it, the former owner of it filled up the tires and drove it over to our place. It ran fine. Even with the cam that bad, it is crazy how well they run. Thanks for watching. • @UglyTruckExperience

    Hey Brian. The motor mount perches on the frame are totally different on the V8 and V6. When I swap a v6 I end up buying the frame mounts for a v8. I can usually find them on EBAY. If I can't find them there. I will start looking at salvage yards locally. Even with the v8 frame mounts, I will still have to move the motor mount back and drill new holes in the frame if I am planning on using the stock AC location. Jerry

    Hey Scott! Jerry was working on some rust repair. That truck is from Mississippi and it's really solid, except where it's not. 😆 We've done a few swaps where we just replace the oil pump and timing set, but the last few we did a full rebuild. More time and money, but the peace of mind that you're starting fresh is nice. It usually just depends on what we have for a donor. We appreciate you tuning in! 👋 --Emily

    Great video! I have a 05 Silverado 5.3 with 320 thousand runs great. Every 3 thousand it loses oil pressure until I change the oil , what do you think ? Oil stays clean thanks

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    5 ай бұрын

    Hey Chevykev. Next time you lose oil pressure, smell the used oil and see if it might be diluted with fuel. I had a flex fuel truck in here once that did that. It would go about the same distance and then the oil would just start dropping down to less than 10 lbs. You could also pull a valve cover off with fresh oil in it and run it with the valve cover off and see if your getting any oil up top. That gives you a little hint at the condition of the cam bearings. Thanks for watching. Let me know what you figure out. Jerry

    Hello Ted. We have bought 4 or 5 of them that were complete units like that and have had no problem with them at all. I do pay attention to where they are coming from. When they come from out east or north, they are covered in exterior rust and the aluminum parts are oxidized past looking good again. If you end up getting one, let us know how it goes.
