I met Jacko about 20 years ago when he was touring with Chopper, holy shit the man was a BEAST! I’d never seen a chest as big as his! So wide and deep, holy shit, Jacko looked like he could tear anyone’s head off. Top bloke though, really down to earth and friendly.

My goodness l am old, remember watching this. Even though lm a Victorian AFL person l was soo pleased Mel won 😊

My memory of this was that it was initially all in good spirits and then Jacko started talking a bunch of trash in the lead up to the fight. Mal took some of it personally so decided to make it a legit fight. Looked like they'd buried the proverbial hatchet at the end though, which is good. Well done to Jacko. I don't think AFL guys, particularly back then, really understood how hard rugby league guys hit and how strong they are. It's a different level.

Mal was a QLD cop. I remember playing RL against the Police Academy in Brisbane in U18. They were not too flash on the football side of things. But by Christ they could fight. I turned around and saw half my team on the ground. lol.

Took a lot of guts for the AFL guys to take these fights against rugby players who are clearly much tougher as a general rule. I remember Richard Champion got a win for the AFL in a competitive fight but as far as I remember the rest were basically blowouts for the NRL lol

Anthony willis Sonny Bill had to cheat to beat a 50+ yr old Botha. Sonny Bill came out strong against Botha in the early rounds but Botha withstood the onslaught and came back and was smashing Sonny Bill. Which is why Sonny Bills team called the fight off in the 11th round. 4 short of the of the official 15 rounds. His team knew Botha was going to either knock Sonny Bill out or lose on points. Which is why they stopped the in the 11th round claiming that was the agrred upon # of rounds, even though 15 rounds was the agreed upon # of rounds in the contracts and advertisments and promotional material. They stopped the fight to claim Sonny Bill won on countback.
