Box Truck Almost FLIPS Over From Shifted Load!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Box Truck Almost FLIPS Over From Shifted Load! Imagine how much less content I would have if load shifts did not happen? They keep us BUSY! Whether they are overloaded, improperly strapped or caused by unsafe driving, seems like we are correcting these multiple times per week. My opinion is that most loads are not properly secured inside of these trucks.
If you have ever stepped inside a trailer or box truck, you'll notice most of them have an almost glossy like floor. When you put a wooden or plastic pallet on it, they can easily move around while in transit. That's why you use straps, wood or bags to brace these pallets to keep them from sliding. These drivers will take a corner too fast and if they aren't properly secured, that load will go to the side it's leaning on.
Unfortunately this can result in a huge rollover accident. If they are lucky like in this video, it's an easy fix. Sometimes a rotator is needed, others we can do it with just a forklift. In this case, Alex used Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, to assist. Imagine if Alex didn't have the rotator physically holding up the leaning side. Now imagine using the electric pallet jack here to re-work the load. It's already leaning bad, and now you have all this movement and weight on the leaning side. That is exactly how you can tip it over.
The guys made very short work of this job, and got the driver fixed and on his way in no time. Remember folks, secure your loads!! What did you guys think of this load shift job? And if you REALLY want to support your favorite tow channel, become a member here: / @pepestowingservice

    Pro tip: if you have xtra empty pallets, and have a gap in between your load. You can use the empty pallets flip them side ways put them in between the gap. And use them as load stabilizer so your load won't move or shift.

    Thats a great idea, I never thought of that! You know what else would help? How about a pallet jack that is easier to use, that uses a joystick instead, that handle contraption is absolutely useless in tight spaces.

    He might be driving NON-CDL, so that explains his lack of pallet jack ability. Having said that, I gotta say that long handle is absolutely useless within tight spaces. I think those things would be far easier to use, using a joystick control instead.

    You know he’s overloading the truck. The spring in the passenger side rear has recently been replaced. They probably load it to the max and it bottoms out then the tires rub on the box. It’s a way for a company to use 26k GVW trucks and not have to pay for the 35K GVW weight fee charged by the state. Also doesn’t require their drivers to have a CDL.

    Not sure I understood why you felt the need to offset the hook height on the frame rails. Once you lift the chassis, the broken spring is take completely out of the equation and the load will be balanced between the lift hooks and the front suspension. It may have looked off while still parked just due to the crown of the road, but shouldn't have been an issue. If nothing else, I think I would have put a binder on the suspension (both sides) so that the rear axle didn't drag due to the broken spring. Moving to the front after blocking the rear axle made sense though, because of the load weight to stabilize the tow.

  • @mikepaul3959

    @mikepaul3959

    Yeah, what he said. Why worry about the spring or the unbalanced load if you are lifting with the wrecker from the rear of the frame (or does the wrecker lift rotate horizontally?)?

    Those are 3/8" G7 chains with a Working Load Limit of 6,600 lbs. Both add up to 13,200 lbs. The front axle on that bobtail is approximately 9,000 lbs. California law requires that tow truck safety chains must be able to secure 150% of the towed vehicle's weight. This is a 26,000 lbs. vehicle and 1.5 times the weight is 39,000 lbs. Each chain's Breaking Strength is 4 times the WLL which is 26,400 lbs. Two chains add up to 52,800 lbs. , which is 13,800 over the 150% of the towed bobtail. Using a chain's breaking strength is only allowed by law on safety chain application in California. Hope I got this right. Lol !

    Sure, we have trucks with lift gates. Not all trucks have them here just as not all trucks in the UK and EU have them. Those that are intended to load from the ground have them. Those that are intended to load from docks often don’t. If you are having a carrier pick up and deliver a shipment, you must specify if the pick up and delivery sites have docks so the right truck is used.
