    Yep...if you have a lot of rise get more amperage and then you can play louder at higher frequency I'm about to sell my 3 5ks for 3 8ks because I rise from 1.34 to 4ohm at my peak 33hz and I know I can get a few more db's by adding almost double power 😊

    Does heat affect impedance? Say I had a 8K amp and my voice coils on my subs started to heat up at 10 minutes of play time. Does that significantly alter the impedance of the subwoofers?

  • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it absolutely does! There are 2 ways this can be demonstrated. You could run a test tone with an SPL meter and watch SPL drop over time as it gets hot (this is assuming your voltage isn't dropping). The reason being, impedance goes up, power output goes down, SPL goes down. Or, you can check impedance while cold, play them till they get warm/hot and immediately check impedance again. You'll see impedance is higher than when they were cool. After they cool off, they'll go back to "normal".

    I don't think anyone argued that rise doesn't exist outside of an enclosure, I think the term box rise makes sense because in your box at your peak you'll have a different impedence then you would in a different box. For me I peak at 46hz which brings me to 4.4ohm and hits. 146.2 on an audio pipe 2k. So probably ~5-700w.

  • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    5 жыл бұрын

    That isn't correct, which is why I made this video and have another one planned. Just like a subs characteristics change impedance shifts in free-air, they also change in the enclosure. Your impedance during play can change from any given box change, but you can also have a given enclosure and change the sub and get a different impedance. The enclosure isn't a set impedance rise, only then would "box rise" be sort of correct because that's still a reflection of impedance. The only way box rise would be completely correct is if it was having an opposing force on gravity.

    Whoa. A laptop near a sub? Hard drives are magnetic, be careful. Subs have it's own impedance rise. The term 'box rise' is said when the impedance of the sub shifts different than in free air, so it's not real at all! Hihaha

    SSD's aren't magnetic. The field on the sub isn't strong enough to reach that distance of any significance, and rotational drives have an aluminum case that works as a faraday cage as well, to some degree.
