    I just wanted to come here and say that due to an unintentional altercation with Steve Meade on his KZread page, I have concluded that he is in fact a thin skinned, fragile little man who can randomly take almost anything offensively. That is all. And your content is very technical and informative. Good day.

If I put a date on it, the day after will be full of messages asking why it's not already installed in their car if it's not delivered by that date. On Lowballers I tried to put a date on them within 3 expected days of shipping them and it ended up being another 3 weeks.

They still come up from time to time on forum classifieds. A versatile motor that supported several solid woofers. I have had interesting results building those with different coils.

    Hru how's it going? Great video, I got four old Elemental designs E10a.22's I've wanted to start on maybe getting them rebuilt. They have the old TC9 motors, I already tore one down. They were the 1st gen's that would blow through the cone, actually had them going up until 2 summers ago. One of my favorite woofers, I can't seem to find any coils to fit the motors. Also none of the build guys I've talked to really want to mess with these motors, they mostly say I should get something new. I've had these for a long long time now, would really love to get your opinion, maybe help. I would really appreciate it. Thanks again

    So what exactly makes a weak motor? That thing looks like a beast, but the measured gauss was quite low. Is it the material the magnet slugs are made from? The material the steel plate and backing plate are made of? The coil gap? A combination of all of this?

  • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    6,000 isn't particularly low, you might be surprised what your favorite subs measure. It's just not particularly high either. You could cut the top plate in half and it would raise the gauss quite a bit, till the point it's completely saturated and won't go any higher. There are a lot of factors that determine gauss, like top plate thickness, magnet grade, magnet and top plate diameter, quality of steel, back plate thickness, pole venting, gap size and how well the motor was charged to start with.

    What happened to that company is Mike had serious health problems and had to get out of car audio. He has dipped his toe back in a little bit in the last 10 years but he definitely didn't have the ability to do it like he did in the old days nor the motivation. I'm almost certain he has passed away in the last couple years. He was in extremely poor health the last time I spoke with him awaiting surgery and not optimistic on any improvement. This is indeed a risk of buying audio from a 1 man operation (like EMF). If tragedy befalls the owner/operator you're probably going to be SOL if he doesn't have children or some other successor ready to take the reigns if something happens to him. Anyway, nice looking build. Tell your customer to throw that in 3 cubic feet tuned to 36hz and he will be very happy.

  • @EMFAudio

    I think there is more to that story than you know. You don't owe people tens of thousands of dollars and get your life threatened over all the subs you didn't deliver and suddenly have cash to refund when people show up to your house because you got sick. I'm not sure what leads you to believe EMF is a 1 man operation either. 3 cu. ft for a 12" is completely wrong, and the coil and suspension used is different than stock anyway.

  • @hispls

    @hispls

    @@EMFAudio All I know is Mike always did right by me, he was battling heart troubles and underwent several surgeries when I knew him and to the best of my knowledge is dead now. May well could have been something else went down when he dropped out of the scene. Wouldn't be the first nor last such story in this business. I don't know who works with you or for you, the point is that EMF isn't Rockford Fosgate which is still going 40 years after the founder retired. I'm not even sure Sundown could really recover if Jacob disappeared (though at least they'd probably be able to settle accounts). Not knocking small shops, I prefer to do business with them because they do things that multinationals can't or won't and I get more personal service, but I understand the tradeoff. As far as box, yes, 05 sig 12" wants 3 cubic feet. That's with every coil and regardless of suspension. I've been building these motors for about 10 years now and have done extensive testing with 12" and 15" sizes with a wide variety of soft parts in addition to taking advice from Mike and DB-Drag veterans that competed with those subs. You didn't even know what this motor was before you posted the first video. Trust me on this one. 3 cube mid 30hz tuning on a 12" with medium stiff suspension will play extremely well in vehicle for music.

  • @EMFAudio

  • @hispls

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@EMFAudio Every way you build these they perform well in a large box. Build philosophy on suspension is to build it just stiff enough to not break with whatever power you want to throw into it as going stiffer sacrifices efficiency and musicality. These aren't meant to be music subs, they're meant to be SPL subs but it just so happens that with soft-ish suspension 12s and 15s can be made to sound pretty good for music. Again, I'm just going by what Shocker Mike and the old Team Fusion told me, and 11 years of my own experience building and testing this exact motor, but I'm sure the guy who didn't know what that motor was last week knows best.

  • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@hispls Not knowing what name is on a motor doesn't change what the motor is. The motor isn't a musical motor, it's noisy. Stiffer suspension literally makes it more efficient, t/s parameters show that (to a point, then Qts goes up because the motor isn't strong enough). Build philosophy for SPL is very different than musical, this isn't an SPL build. But what do I know, I just have patents on speaker design and design complete subs from the motor to the final product and don't just go off what other people say.
