Bow Tie Cookies | Wandies | Christmas Angel Wings | Bugie
Ingredients:-
3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour (500 grams) more for dusting work surface
1/4 cup of granulated sugar m(100 grams)
1 stick butter/4 ounces(110 grams)
4 eggs room temperature
1/2 glass white wine (125 ml) and or sambuca or limoncello not to exceed 8 ounces
2 tsp teaspoon baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Lemon zest (optional)
3 cups vegetable/canola/sunflower oil for frying
Powder sugar for dusting
Honey for drizzling
Directions:
(This dough can be mixed and worked by hand).
Step#1- In a stand-up mixer with the hook attachment add your dry ingredients. Slowly add one egg at a time, then the wine and the butter.
Step#2- It should form a soft dough. If it’s too sticky you can add more flour a tablespoon at a time.
Step#3- Remove dough and let it rest covered on your work surface for at least 30 minutes.
(You can use a rolling pin or a pasta machine).
Step#4- With a rolling pin, cut a piece of dough and begin rolling and always dusted with a little flour until thin dough is acquired.
Step#5- Cut into rectangular pieces. Make a slit in the middle and pass one side through the slit creating a bow.
Step#6- Using a pasta machine starting with the largest opening. Run the dough through it. Fold it and run through it again. Each time making the opening smaller.
Step#7- Proceed with cutting rectangular pieces and making the bows.
Step#8- In a large frying pan add your oil and bring to 365 degrees. Add your bows and turn when lightly golden.
Step#9- Drain on a cookie sheet lined with paper towels.
You can enjoy them with powder sugar or drizzle honey over them.
Buon Natale! 🎄

Heard them called Wanda’s or Guanita’s. Always iced with a darker pink frosting where I live, frequently served at the weddings of Italian and Sicilian folks, in the shape of flowing ribbons. Delicious!

Two questions, if I’m using only white wine, because I can’t find the other alcohol that you mentioned, do I add lemon zest to that, and if so, how much? Also, do you use salted or unsalted butter? Thank you very much! I know this was three years ago so I’m going to have to hunt down the 12 days of cookies! 🎄

Thank you. Just proceed with only the white wine. Happy baking, it was so much fun doin the 12 days of Christmas. Did you like the intro?
Alessandra I made your recipe for Wandies the other day and my dough came out too loose. I had to add a lot more flour. I followed your directions and was wondering what I did wrong. I used large eggs, but they seemed larger to me. They still came out very good and crispy. A BLESSED MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND A HEALTHY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hi Antoinette, Maybe the eggs? Glad you fixed it by adding the flour. I feel terrible when things like this happen. Maybe use a little less of the wine. Baking really comes done to a science. Not always easy. Thank you for watching my channel. I’m extremely honored to share my recipes with people like you. God bless. Buon Natale to you too and family. @@alessandrasfoodislove Thank you so much for replying. I've been watching your channels for about a month or so and you explain things so well. I really enjoy watching your videos on all the things you make. You make everything look so easy. I wish I had more energy to do more cooking and baking. You make me feel like a close friend. My parents came from Bari, Italy. I make a cookie something like this that is called cartedat's, you dipped the whole cookie in honey mixed with toasted almonds and hazelnuts, then sprinkled them with sprinkles.

Maybe the dough could have used a rest. I know bread dough is easier to work if you cover it and let it rest awhile.
