Susamielli Napoletani | Mostaccioli Calabresi | Christmas Edition.
Ingredients:-
4 cups of all-purpose flour (500 grams)
2/3 cups sugar and a little more for rolling.
2 cups of honey (500 ml)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
Zest of an orange
Bread scrapers are a must.
Directions:-
Step#1- In a saucepan on medium heat bring to a boil the honey and the sugar.
Step#2- Once the sugar has melted it’s ready (this is very quick),
Step#3- On a work, surface add all the other ingredients, and form a well.
Step#4- Add your hot honey and fold in the flour using your scrapers.
Step#5- Form a dough and if it’s very sticky just add a little more flour.
Step#6- Sprinkle a little sugar on the work surface.
Step#7- Make small rolls and shape like the letter S. That’s where the Susamielli name comes from.
Step#8- Bake at 350 degrees on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
( Larger ones cook for 20 minutes or until golden color. Smaller ones in 15 minutes).
Enjoy!
Buon Natale! 🎄

@@alessandrasfoodislove My mother's people are from Naples...not sure where but I remember my grandmother mentioning a city with the name "Gabriele" in it. (My daughter is "Gabrielle"). And my father's people are from Sicily. Catania. I had 4 of my great grandparents until I was 16 years old..i remember them well! 💚💚

So happy for you Susan. Maybe Gragnano ? I was born in Vico Equense, a coastal town between Pompeii and Sorrento. That makes me Napoletana. 🥰🇮🇹 I’ve been to Catania, Sicily is a gorgeous island with delicious food. God bless you that you had them. I just lost my aunt and she was the last link to my dad. It hurts so much. I mention her in my bow ties video because I use the mandarinetto liqueur she made for me. Oh the memories. God bless you and thank you for watching! 🥰

Thank you so much AnnaMaria, I’m so fascinated how same foods change name from region to region. My best friend growing up was Calabrese and I still remember when she came back from her summers in Italy she would bring the cookies back. They were shaped like fish or different animals with small pieces of foil decorating them. The special memories 🥰🇮🇹 Thank you for having me remember. Merry Christmas to you and family. ❤️🎄💫

Ciao, come stai? I just finished a batch, and mine came out a little rubbery. I’m thinking it’s because I didn’t boil my honey and sugar, if I had done that step, I would have a crisper cookie. Maybe I’ll let the dry out over night and put a fresh orange juice/powdered sugar glaze on them.
