My great aunt had one on her farm, and I learned to drive with it when I was like eight years old. We borrowed it all of the time to haul sheds, move earth, and everything else imaginable. It was still in working order when she passed away a few years ago. I wish I'd laid claim on it, but I didn't have anywhere for it at the time.

Looked for one for a while. Most were very expensive. Found this one in great shape at the right price. Glad we picked it up.

We still have a 6Y 4000 which is one of two we had.. Great tractor. Also had the 4600 which was the model that replaced the 4000 in the range.. This model here is the early 6X model.

I had an 8n and loved it. Just needed a little more. Like a crawl speed and live or independent PTO. Otherwise very similar. Will run forever.

I grew up on a Walnut farm and we used a Ford 4000 for our shaker and harvester and that thing was just about indestructible, believe me we tried. 😂😂 (plus walnut harvesting is brutal on a tractor)

I'm guessing you had a canopy on yours for shaking walnut trees. There is a reason this old beast still works! A few years in now and really like it! Plenty of power for everything I do with it. And always starts!

Nice tractor, I have one like it with a diesel but no front loader. Just 2 comments on your tractor driving. That engine has a governor so there is no need to change the throttle settings up and down hills, unless of course you need to change speed. The second, when driving any of those old tractors be VERY careful about trying to shift that short stick on the fly. The gear ratios are so drastically different that it can cause you some problems, especially going from high to low range. But it is a very nice tractor and I think you’re going to have a lot of fun with it and I’m betting it will last you a long time.

This tractor continues to amaze us. This was my first time driving it. Since we have used to to brush hog our field and trails. You really feel the power cutting 5 foot tall grass and small trees. It's very nice having the extra grunt when its needed. Not to mention its built right and will work hard for another 50 years.

Ford just put that 6.6 in everything back in the day, and when it came to the point where the engine wouldn’t fit in a small frame, they put half of a 6.6 in it. Lol 😂 They ride like crap, are loud, powerful enough but not the most powerful, and they don’t go for much. Last time I checked, I was a farmer not a candy ass, so I’d take two over the 2 junk white Case units I started with back in the day. I wish I’d known about the Fords back then.

I see the previous owner forgot to put a remote valve for the loader on it

That would help. It's a little tricky and awkward to use but it does work very well.

@@garyteague4480 yep! Bought a steering box kit cheaper than a rebuilt box and fixed it. The kit was cheap and even comes with a new shaft.
