Exactly, that is definitely not the type of business I would deal with, most people would bargain with you and you bargain back, instead it's just a toss up here, you really don't know what your paying because we have to throw it in a pile and figure it out later, not good sales technique, I think these people are great but at the end of the day I would not go there, just my opinion

You're right actually, I used the word "barter" when I should have used the word " haggle", which they did. Owner is the master old school bazaar haggler. He approached the sale in this order: The first mention of the close: "you get a pile up and well talk about it" This immediately makes the buyer start a larger pile without worrying of the sticker shock, and leading to a bigger sale. After that it was broken down like this: 1. "You tell me" 2. "What do you think" 3. "I wasn't planning on letting this go" 1. He has fished for basic information to get the best deal possible while at the same time seeming like it is nothing more than just a deal to him. Diffuse and fish. 2. See the absolute value of everything in the customers eyes. 3. Before the finality of the deal the owner preempts the buyers expectations with how he sees these to have a hefty value, and almost an inconvenience for him to sell, even after he made the whole transaction just seem like an open carefree thing in the very beginning. A total flip flop but genius. A+ On the old man selling this guy.

@@acardenasjr1340 it is tough to master bargaining. I just think he should have a sign on the front of his store saying cash recommended though.
Dude when I seen Echo & Vector Man being played I got all kinds of excited for one, secondly I use to play those on Sega Genesis when I was about 8yrs old. Never had heard of JVC System before till now, because little before my time since born in 92 but dang. I wanna get into retro collecting honestly. Awesome video man so cool seeing old-school stuff. I agree with dude about having to be online just too play offline games now a days or streaming it.
Love these guys father and son shop. they are characters that's what makes life interesting good stuff.
What a collection to have in a gamestore
Can't wait to buy it and store it for years.
"I'm trying to figure out what you want to pay." That cracks me up.
Great video😊 but gotta admit the older guy seemed waaay hesitant on selling some of the stuff, hopefully they do get business though
I don't know if that old man was in a bad mood or it's always like that with clients.
I had one of those Virtual Boys, was tough on the eyes after about 15-20 minutes. Those glowing red graphics.
From Scotland, just a comment to say im so glad ive found this channel
Glad to see they are still doing well and still in the game. First saw them on The Game Chasers...decent people...quality.

@zachdelkus they were in series 1 quite a bit, Episode 26 "Living in a gaming paradise" i think was the first appearance, but possibly before that aswell.
As everyone else is saying the store definitely doesn’t pass the vibe check but the inventory does. For a store in the mid west it’s lit

The midwest really needs to get high speed internet infrastructure huh?
This is kind of the same vibe you get at a gun store, like you’re trying really hard not to piss anyone off 😅…however, good video, and it was fun to see the retro items!
I have galactic pinball, super mario clash, and warioland on the virtual boy. Bought it with a travel case from block buster as a kid. Nostalgia.
these guys couldn't sell snow cones in the sahara desert
It’s interesting. I get the “shady” carnival vibe from this place. I know the game chasers went there a lot but it felt really off. I like how you just helped them out Rick. And hey now u got a virtual boy and a nomad box and some other goodies 👊

I’m not getting the carnival or shady connection? Care to elucidate? This kind of place is very common in the south - I’ve been to countless antique stores, record shops and other private businesses in the south and most have this vibe. Little bit grimy and lack of professional polish, but a lot of character in these places - its similar to hastily set up flee market stall or garage sale .. southerners aren’t fancy or well-kept .. just laid back and raw.

That's cause the game chasers were trying to buy the entire store for nothing. I love the game chasers but jay is an absolute ass to deal with. He has prices and jay is offering half of retail, that's insulting.

When you walk in the door chime is a banjo trailing off into the distance.
When i was a kid my local mom and pop hobby store was a nightmare. No prices and anything and the guy literally didnt want to sell you anything. Followed you around the shop like a criminal. I was amused to read in the local paper that he was trying to fight the council if a compulsory purchase order and was asking for peoples support. He lost and the shop got knocked down. Me and a few friends enjoyed making a decent RC track on the soil what was left until the builders moved in a few months later.😂
I still have my original conkers bad fur day from when it was released all those years ago, so luckily I know it's authentic.
It’s hard to watch the owner not price stuff. Maybe you can make a small argument about the rare boxed stuff but I would walk out of a store if I asked how much 3 PS3’s were and they respond how he did.
If your selling something put a number on it. The you go first is a waste of time when Rick is obviously interested in leaving with it.
I hope they do mega business, great shop! Keep the shops alive people, the internet is boring.
"Ecco the Dolphin" hooked up to stereo speakers was awesome 😁

What happened to the Retro Life channel?
When Rick says 'Right...' he knew that number wasn't coming!
Holy crap, I didn’t know the Tetris from Tengen was worth something. I immediately went into my collection to check because I remember from long ago I had it and sure enough, I have a loose cart. Sheesh, I would’ve been none the wiser.
Makes me wonder how places like this can stay open

He won't be for long with that attitude. This shop has already gone out of business twice. I would go just to order online in front of him.

@@nunyabusiness9013the owners are also clueless about video games lol
I would have left. So awkward man
I miss those clear plastic clam shell cases. Every Friday I'd rent an NES game and bring one home. If you were lucky it came with the game manual.
