I used to run a Gamestation store in the UK (similar to gamestop, owned by GAME at the time, which is VERY similar to gamestop lol). When GAME bought Gamestation from Blockbuster Video they had acquired all of Gamestations stock in the deal and had to transfer everything over to the GAME till system. GAME hadn't sold ps1 or mega drive etc etc in years, and instead of letting Gamestation carry on selling them, they didn't want to pay tax on all of that inventory, so they did a company wide order to smash the lot. Every single Gamestation store had to smash and dispose of all retro games, everything up to the PS2 as ps2 they were still selling, AND take video/photo evidence of it all smashed in a dumpster. Couldn't even give them to staff. They didn't want any trace of this stuff as they were writing it off for tax reasons. When Gamestation went under (GAME is still going btw) I started my own business then, and the skull logo is about trying to bring retro back from the dead or to keep it still going today.

In my experience, GameStop will sadly usually give more cash, but other game or electronics stores will usually trade more stuff. To clarify I wasn’t trading poop, the last thing I traded was a barely used ps2 with the hard drive and adaptor and a bunch of unopened games like armored core and a bunch of others I didn’t know were worth a lot. GameStop wouldn’t take most of it, but one of the local game shops/electronics stores traded me a brand new 360s and a small tv and a 3ds and a bunch of games I wanted. (Needed the small tv cuz roommates were complaining that I was using the tv in the living room for gaming) I had a ps4 at the time and that’s what I had been playing on the tv.

my advice - dont sell games by the tub load or bag load. just a handful of games at a time. it makes it easier to break down the price for individual games so you can challenge the price. a large tub of games can be annoying for staff to go through and check each disc, not all staff are passionate about a load of games, for an independent seller or whatever they would take more interest. but for just someone working at the till.. not so much so they may low ball you with a low price just to take the lot off your hands. as not everyone is prepared to hump a big tub of games around town. they have seen this before many times so often would low ball. just seeing a tower of games their immediate thing to do is treat them like a stack of any old games. you could have a nicer limited edition sleeve version but when they are just all stacked like that they dont get that individual treatment as they would if you had a handful of games. if you try to challenge them on the price to perhaps offer more, all they are thinking of then is.. we already have loads of these, or, id have to file all of these away and price them individually.. take the price or leave it XD smaller bundles is a nicer transaction as well

next test is to compare selling in a lump vs individual/small groups. might get quite a bit more as you can barter over certain titles rather than having them get lost in the shuffle and sometimes they arent in the mood to play so theyll just give you a flat rate unless you have an obvious standout shiny charizard sticking

Honestly the other 3 were based on corporate and what they can do, so still really great offers. But if you're selling to a guy who owns the place, then that's really good marketing on their part. 1. You're getting stock items even if it's not the greatest seller. 2. You just gave a returning customer store credit to spend in your store. Yes, store credit is that they don't have to pay. However, the customer is 10x more likely to come back and spend more based off of the relationship that was built. But keep in mind the longer you have known the boss then that may play into the greater the deal.

about 5-6 years ago, there was a game store in my town called gamerz planet. i had a ps2 and would buy a game for like 15-20 bucks (at the most) then come back in and re-sell it for the same price and since i was coming in so often they would sell me brand new games for the price of used ones and give me like 5$ extra if i could beat a game or level in the store. i was maybe 10-11 so it was really cool to get so much free stuff. then we got like 3 game stops and gamerz planet went out of business. now there’s only 1 game stop left in my town

I went to a local pawn shop here after I got divorced. I actually turned a profit on a good amount of games by going to the local gamestop store, buying all the cheapest 25 cent to 99 cents games then going to the pawn shop and selling them for $1.50 a piece. I eventually ran into a manager who caught on to how much they were losing on the games I had already sold to them and cut me off, but I made a good $100 profit before that point.
