When was this😳?? I'm a Motswana in Botswana right now and it's raining as I'm typing this ... (Christmas day of 2022).. I'm in the capital city, but I have relatives in Maun, which is close to the Okavango and they've not had any drought related issues... We have plenty of livestock running around freely across the country but all of the ones I've seen are healthy and fat right now... I say all that to say, Its been a while since we've had a drought around here🤷🏾‍♀️ Thank you for the prayers and well wishes though ❤️😊 And it's not lost on me that there are many people who need help, because even if the water is there, it doesn't mean that it's readily available to everyone..Some still have to travel extremely long ways to get some☹️... This is something that must be worked on by the government because it's basic need...

I am so glad I watched this documentary, the old farmer is so smart and well spoken, I also pray God restores all that is lost and bring back the water.

From the UK but lived and worked in Botswana for about 18 years and know pretty well the whole of Botswana. The drought cycle comes around about once every seven years. It is bad but sometimes not so severe but have seen it when cattle are lying dead everywhere. The Kalahari region suffers the worst.

@@Xplosiv3s To hell with solar power, these people need reliable sources of water, fuel and energy that is not dependent on weather or sunlight. Methods that are more traditional and reliable, something that the average farmer or herdsman could repair and operate. Solar panels require technicians to repair and they are full of toxic chemicals that could seriously harm the ecology which makes them unacceptable as a long-term solution. There also needs to be some kind defense for the poor villagers that are being attacked by elephants. I don't care about preserving an animal when it is a direct threat to human survival. Humans must come first and these people deserve to live better lives.

Africa's problem is not drought or poorness but stupidity by most folk living on this continent. Farmers in desert areas elsewhere, are surviving years by getting water from drilling, chanals, etc. You blow this up out of proportion you money makers....

I was born and raised in Botswana.These are the remote areas of the country. remember botswana is a semi desert,most of the land is the kalahari desert.some of these people are descendants of the indigenous people which is why they still live in those areas.human and wildlife conflict is an issue especially when there is drought because wild animals attack livestock and elephants come into their homes in search of water. Not taking away from the beauty of our country with vast animal species.we have the highest concentration of elephants in Africa due to our efforts to fight against poaching.Botswana is also one of the fastest growing econmies in Africa and number 1 global diamond exporter. I am a Kenyan, but one of the country I am dying to visit is Botswana, its one the peaceful country in the world, has the fastest growing economy, largest herd of elephants e.t.c. The country is semiarid it gets dry in some specific months of the year, I wonder why you decided to shoot the documentary during the dry season. This country was one the poorest in the world, it has worked it's a** of to be a middle income country. I wonder why you focus on the bear negative, in which there are more positive things to focus on about the country

I've watched a few of these videos and I've noticed some discrepancies with some "facts" they state in the shows. One time the nattator said a pickup or small suv weighed something like 10 tons. 10 tons lol😂

this is crap my guy. So much exagration and fabrication. Gatwe 19 Km' in 2 days. I drive a Lexus on Gravel for 20 KM's and it takes me less than 30 Minutes . If there was fact checking before uploading this fake info the documentary wudnt exist caz there's no single facts here.

The makers of this film should produce a follow up on these people how they helped them! This content they gave is worth something life alterin.

My greatest respect for the film maker to bring all this Journeys lively for viewers like me, i am always impressed, scarred and amazed, and sometime shocked.... Thanks ! Top 👍exciting !

I'm very thankful and fortunate I don't have to go through this even if our water and power gets cut off sometimes, we survive well. I am from Botswana 🇧🇼. Botswana is a semi-arid desert.drought can be a problem in other places in Botswana. especially people who have farms. Road can be Sandy real heavy, break down of cars and trucks We hope government can do something Especially to work on the roads and the droughts too.for the livestocks they need water, which Botswana is known as production of meat which is sold out to other countries. Other thing can be a problem is wild animals like elephant,lion, leopard, hyenas,wilddogs and jackals.which can be stress too much and threat to people and there livestocks. We hope the government can put more effort into this situation.

This was such an educational documnetary. Especially for us who grew up and staed all our lives in the cities. Atleasst we get to understand other people's situations. I am a proud Motswana and I love my country. 01.03.2023

Ke Motswana (I'm from Botswana)... I'm wondering if they mixed in a few far away places in this video so would be nice to know their names. Life is hard in Botswana for sure but it is also very beautiful. Sun is always shining and you will never see such stars or sunsets elsewhere. We have good governance, economy and the people help each other!

It may be winter, dry season is during winter in Botswana, by looking at the vegetation i think it was winter not summer because even before rain the plants start having green shoots and flowers in August. So the sun may look scorching but the air is usually cold we have cold winter in Botswana.

just a quick one, I appreciate the effort and quality of your work, however I have not come across any legislature banning anyone person from leaving a reserve in Botswana... I have neither witnessed anyone being denied the right to exit such a reserve... speaking as someone who has been to National Game Parks and reserves in Botswana... id be interested to know more from you though...for the sake of public interest.

The country is a semi desert so obviously some parts will be dry. Also this looks like it was filmed mostly in kgalagadi and/Ghanzi which are the driest districts in the country and anyone who lives in these parts knows you can't be driving any car through the sand cause it might get stuck

Now you know. That is it good that, when God gives us wealth or better living, we should not only think of ourselves but people out there. This earthly goods if we don't share it with others, we will leave it here and others cover up even waste it out. So let's think of others when we are in comfortable life. I am just saying. 🤷‍♂️

Honestly speaking, this is very dramatized for views, I’m from botswana and we have been experiencing exceptional rainfall this year and years before…granted we are in a semi desert, some areas will be dry, some will get better rainfall than others. Otherwise this is just overly dramatized. People actually prefer to rear livestock in the CKGR because of abundance of grazing land. This document just makes it seem like everyone is kneeling down, hands in the sky begging God for a drop of water.

Wonderful a documentary.

As a Motswana I feel insulted by this documentary..Firstly it is not the human population that is encroaching on elephant territory it is the other way round..Around 2009 or so we put a halt to hunting or controlling the elephants because those in power at the time had invested heavily on tourism and wanted the elephants to increase..The problem with this is that the population of the said elephants more than doubled in a short spam of time which made an overcrowding of the elephant and putting stress on the conservatories which have been demarcated to them..These beast now have eroded the land and have put other wildlife at risk as they share the same space..We have a responsibility to conserve these other animals too.. The elephants now enter into human territory kill humans and deplete the grazing for our livestock..Stop this bullshit of thinking u know better about how we should take care of our wildlife when we have proven to implement among-st the best if not the best wildlife conservation practices..I think it is high time we document the truthful reality of our own affairs and stop these westerners from pushing their ignorant biases about our experiences.. As for the Bushmen; these are our people and we need them to have access to education, reliable and safe drinking water and get them to participate in the affairs of the country..We do not pride ourselves in seeing them being photographed as savages for your enjoyment..Stop it..Just stop it..Go make your Children to live in the caves like u used to if at all u value preserving undignified non progressive human existence..And with the guy who was travelling for hours why not just give him a lift and stop filming him from the comfort of ur car..STOP INSULTING US.

Sou angolano, e é muito triste pra mim ver a região do Kalahary nessas condições, principalmente devido as populações que dependem do Okavango pra sua sobrevivência. Na verdade esse fenomeno de seca tem assolado todo o sul do nosso continente nos últimos anos, e não vejo as nossas autoridades criarem mecanismo de protecção e sustentabilidade dessas regiões.

Seeing this extensive decay of wildlife in Botswana and this painful drought cycle is rather heartbreaking.

Wow. Those aerial shots over that little lake that used to be monolithic fresh water, it's very unsettling. This place looks like hell on earth. So desolate and dead inside and out.

Shoutout to the sand people. Much respect!

If only the Government would listen to an outside idea or two the drought could be easily overcome

July is peak winter in Southern Africa not summer and that means no rainfall until spring/summer,typically from September 1st until the end of November is considered spring.
