I grew up collecting as many Boris art compilation books as I could get besides Frank Frazertta. One of the best to have ever existed 👍😛♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💥💥💥

Hi Rich, you can use oils without chemicals. Use M.Graham walnut oil to thin the paint to the consistency you want, just use a bit more every time if you paint in layers. For clean up I use a bar of soap and warm water. I only recently started using gamsol for a wash and to block in some early colors, its odorless and slow evaporating. Keep up the great work 👍

Being europoor I saw his covers on video-games all the time as a kid, the dated/clashing hair styles never bothered me at the time but now I see what you mean. It's a problem when doing contemporary styles of the time, the thing with styles is that they go out of style!

Back in 2000 I got signed some stuff by him and some by Julie, she definitely was his model - attractive and veeeery athletic. I like her stuff a little bit more, Boris, as good as he is, is a tad too much of a realist for me.

Surfaces and atmospherics are incredible. I tend to like the earlier stuff from Boris, like the Marvel cover paintings and paperback art. When the photorealism is too faithful it does, as you say, look like a model and not just a model. but a specific person from present day who is cosplaying for the painting. And it's not just that the hair seems out of the era; these are obviously bodybuilders, and while the aesthetic is really attractive it tends to throw you out of the fantasy. People in primitive fantasy worlds are going to have to be somewhat lithe and athletic to survive, but they don't have gyms in their caves or castles. It's still freaking awesome to study, though, if only for the mastery of lighting and textures. I know they did a couple of books on fantasy art techniques, and a couple of photo collections, but I don't know if there's a tutorial out there on video.

They are really good painters, but I always found their stuff to look very “static” and not very dynamic. Frazetta’s work always seemed to have more movement, whereas when these two paint people they feel very posed and frozen.

Hi Rich, GOLDEN Open Acrylic paints are specially formulated to stay wet longer, giving you more time to blend smooth gradients. No chemicals required, they're water soluble and can provide you with the fun of mixing colors like oil, without all the hassle. They also cut well with acrylic mediums, gels and extenders, allowing for glazing and impasto effects. I'm not a shill for them, I'd just love to see you paint if you ever find the time.
