Boox Note Air 3: Unboxing and First Impressions

Ойын-сауық

A couple of weeks ago, Boox announced the Note Air 3, which is the black-and-white sibling of the Note Air 3C and the successor of the Note Air 2 Plus.
I bought it right after the announcement and just got it - together with the Tab Ultra C Pro, which I’ll do a separate first impressions video soon.
Okay, so, let’s unbox the Note Air 3 and get a first impression of this new E-Ink tablet with Android 12.

Looking forward to your full review. In particular I’m curious about the writing experience when compared with the Kindle Scribe (and RM2). I really enjoy the writing experience of the scribe which is almost (tactile) enough for me. But the scribe is just too limited notebook wise for my needs. I’m hoping that the NA3 has a reasonably good pen-paper feel. Could you comment, please? Thanks for you great reviews and your I’m so jealous of Star Trek stuff!!!

What baffles me is that the small 7" Mini Tab C has a 5000mAh battery, while these larger devices, with more power-hungry screens, only have a 3600mAh battery.

This larger device doesn't have BSR, making the battery draw less significant.

I suspect battery life will be quite alright with the Boox Note Air 3, without the Boox Super Refresh (BSR) technology. But with the Note Air 3 C I really think implementing BSR was a mistake with the 3700 mAh battery. The 4600 mAh battery capacity of the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro also seems ... odd, after the 6300 (!) mAh batteries of the Boox Tab Ultra & Tab Ultra C.

@@ChalidRaqami 100%. The device I really want is a NA3C *without* BSR. That would be perfect. Even better if they can do that with a 13.3" screen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for great review! At the moment i have Pocketbook inkpad 3pro. Want to try the best reader in 10inch size for reading not just books, but also magazines and newspapers. Also has to be on android so i can download newspapers applications. Is it this model Boox note air 3 C is today the best model on the market? What is better for my purposes (reading only) color or BW, Boox note air 3C or Boox note air 3? Thanks in advance

I love your videos. I am waiting for full review. When can we expect it? I am torn if I should return 3c and get 3. I don't care too much for color. I use it for notes and reading books. I would love if you could compare battery life in detail between those 2 devices as I think 3c battery is bad. 35% down in one day with no frontlight and wifi turned on few times only for a while. Screen darkness bothers me too, but not as much as I thought it would, but lack of frontlight uniformity drives me crazy. Not only reported by many darker bar on the left, but gradually brighter with slight warmness/color shift towards right side of the screen. So looking forward to your full review, and or detailed comparison. Some folks reporting less quality of screen protector application on 3 vs 3c. Supposedly it feels cheaper.

Thank you for your video. Some points I would love to see covered in your full review (especially compared to the AIR 3C as I am torn between the two of them): 1) Battery life 2) Writing speed 3) Normal background color of the screen without front light - is it whiter than the 3C due to the different screen / no color 4) ghosting 5) the screen of the 3C when I tested it as a kind of noise / snow effect on the screen (not sure if you see what I mean), is it the same with the 3? Thanks again!

Hi, I bought the Note Air 3 a week ago after considering between the Remarkable 2, the Air 2 plus and the Note Air 3C. I have only been using the tablet for 3 days for an hour of reading with front lighting at around 40% and an hour of writing + Standard mode in refresh mode. The tablet has WiFi always active. I only bought it for reading on the Kindle app and for handwriting + with an external keyboard. After a few hours of getting started (because the settings are not intuitive, especially when using Apple tools :)) everything is fine. On these activities it is obvious that the battery will last at least a week without any problem. The screen is white (not like the color model), the writing speed is really great, I don't notice any latency, in any case it doesn't bother me at all if there is any. I bought the Jumbo Stadedtler stylus with the eraser (because I had seen some nice comments), but the coating of the tablet does not allow me to use the eraser which sticks! Impossible to slip. Finally, the stylus provided suits me very well. You can clearly hear the screeching sound of the tip on the screen. It's perfect FOR ME ! (I'm not looking for a tool that imitates paper. I'm looking for a tool that suits me). Regarding the external keyboard that I struggled to configure to have AZERTY on the screen, there is no lag, it goes very quickly. On the other hand, there are quite a few ghost images, but you can easily configure the refresh rates. So for me the monochrome model suits me very well, especially in relation to the battery life. The pos points that I appreciate: ++ The possibility of splitting the screen between the Kindle app and my handwriting notes. + Front lighting (much less uniform than my Kobo e-reader, but OK). +++ The possibility to read or write without front light on the day thanks to the withe background on the screen. ++ The ability to add audio comments to complete my notes. The negative points that I have noticed to date: - The interface is in French, yes (I am French) but there are quite a few translations missing which gives a not very successful effect. - - - The tablet is slow to turn on. - - - Text recognition is pretty bad compared to my Kobo. - The tablet is heavy, so for reading freehand we have seen better :) Ultimately this tablet suits me very well ;)

Hey. Following as I just received my note air 3. I like it better than the 3C (which I had to sent back because battery life + screen greyish aspect) and the 3 is almost perfect (screen is whiter and battery life definitely better). I just have one / question for both of you: compared to the 3C, I noticed that when I am writing, the is first line / stroke is a bit pixelised and then 1 second later the tablet kinda correct it and smooth everything. Is it because this one doesn’t have BSR ? First time I have an e ink tablet so that might be normal, but I did not have this « problem » with the 3C. I tried other « refresh » mode and some just seem to even don’t smooth the writing. Thank you!

Crispness is pretty much the same between the NA2+ and NA3, but the NA3 has the slightly better contrast levels compared to the previous model. So it looks a bit better nonetheless, but it's not a huge difference.
