I have a small, old house in the SF Bay Area. We installed a Carrier gas furnace 5 years ago and are now adding an electric heat pump to create a "duel fuel" system. Received quotes for Carrier (14 SEER), Daikin Fit (18 SEER), Lennox (14 and 16 SEER) and Bosch (18 SEER) systems. Ultimately decided to go with the Bosch for its flexibility and efficiency. Cost was also a (significant) factor and I got a great deal on the Bosch IDS Plus. It's being installed this Friday. Will report back with updates!

We had a Bosch installer put in a Bosch 2.0 IDS 3 ton 2 zone system. We are using two Emerson Sensi T55 thermostats. The system is awesome. Zero humidity issues because it was paired with the Bosch BVA 36 air handler. I did read about the humidity issues you spoke of, but I spoke with the installer and he said that usually happens been the system is not set up correctly . You actually did a video not too long ago on the topic. You were on pont when said the system needs to be set properly. Thanks again for videos.

I installed Bosch. Recently I saw your video ragging on them for their parts a availability. I was surprised and impressed. Then coincidentally, a week later the condenser fan motor went out on my own two month old BOVA 15-SEER. They tell me over three months to get one shipped. My condenser will be down until March. Went to comment on that video and just like the end of that video said, looks like Bosch managed to convince you to take it down, but normal contractors (and customers) without a boatload of followers on KZread are stuck with their terrible parts availability. I'm personally done with Bosch. Disappointed that you took that video down, but I bet they got your parts quickly when you posted it.

Josh, thanks for all that you post. I've been following your channel for a while and really used your content to jumpstart my HVAC 101. If I were living in VA instead of Seattle, you would've been the first person I would've called. It's been about 3.5 months of constant researching and a number of estimates. Finally narrowed down about 25 quotes (some installers gave multiple options) to three and my choice is between the Fit DZ17VSA481AA vs the Bosch BOVA-60HDN1-M20G. Mostly because of this video and some of the other videos / reviews I've read. Price is comparable. Have no noise / size restrictions for the outdoor unit. Warranties are somewhat comparable as the Bosch installer offers 10/10 (likely not an ABC to get the 11), there's another Bosch quote that's 11/3 warranty since they are an ABC but only offer 3 years labor. Daikin is 12/12 via the Asure warranty. Been going back and forth the past week and ultimately I'm thinking the differences are: -Do I want to stick with my Nest thermostat (I know, unofficially supported for the Bosch) or be pushed to use the Daikin thermostat -Clarification, am I comparing variable to variable? Both Bosch installers paired them w/ 2-stage variable furnaces (American Standard S8X2C100M5PSAA / Daikin DM80VC0804CN), thought the Bosch was just 2-stage but a quick search makes it look like both the Bosch and Daikin are variable -One of the comments below makes is sound like the Bosch is slightly more efficient? At this point, I still feel stuck in making my decision. All three installers have great reviews / ratings. I'm having additional new returns put in for capacity purposes, updating the plenums as they are all undresized, and possibly moving the furnace from the utility room to the other side of the wall into the crawlspace. Am I missing any details that could possibly sway me in one direction or the other?

Big decision pal! Main thing on which is more efficient is that the Fit will be the winner in that department since it’s a true communicating inverter regardless of seer. Glad to hear you’re getting the great warranties!

This has been a great video. It helped me decide 6 months ago to go with the Bosch system rather than the Daikin system, anticipating that both would be similarly quiet, with the Daikin (per your video) perhaps being a tad quieter. The Bosch system has performed exceedingly well this summer with a new two zone sytem in our 2400 sf two-story Sacramento-area home. Very even temp distribution. My beef with the Bosch IDS, however, is that the outside unit is running just about as loud as any 20 year old AC unit! And, in AC mode, it is on or off and when on, it is always on the same high speed (with an Ecobee thermostat). The Ecobee indicates that the second stage is sometimes on, but I don't notice a noise difference (or difference in fan speed in either the air handler or the outside unit). My Soundmeter app on my phone reads 72 db on my unit, at 3 ft away. The same phone app on my phone reads 52 db on my friend's Daikin Fit unit (for a 2700 sf two-story home here), installed about a year ago. My friend says it has been this quiet all summer and all last winter and appears to be truly variable speed. For heating on my Bosch unit, I only had a few cold days, just after the April 2023 installation. For heating it was similarly loud, but the speed of the outside fan was varying and it could go as low as 66 db. Still, a huge difference to the Daikin and neither acceptable nor in the spec noise range or as advertised. In my layperson's perception, much of the noise in the outside unit is from the fan, not the compressor. It sounds like an airplane propeller, even at lower speed. Like a rapid slapping of the air. The Daikin fan in my friend's outside unit is about as quiet as the Bosch IDS air handler fan in my attic. I am working with my installer to see about fixing this issue on the outside unit. Any advice / experience?

Great video! A family member lives in Jacksonville Florida where it is normally warm and sometimes very humid, but during the winter it can get fairly cold. They seem to like the Daikin brand based on the warranty. So if you are familiar with the climate there, should they get a straight A/C with heating via the coils in the air handler which sucks electricity, or a heat pump that is much more efficient, but also costs more upfront? Also, I am assuming the FIT system you are discussing is more expensive than say their regular HVAC system. Is that correct, and if so, is the added upfront cost worth the extra cost over a standard Daikin system?

  • @XxXx-wt5we

Daikin is better than Bosch except for one big reason. The Bosch condenser has an inverter that adjusts based on load but the air handler is only 2H-2c. Daikin is a communicating system in that the fan is not binary. It adjusts up and down based on need to keep your temperature constant and the compressor adjusts s as well. The one big issue with daikin is it does not meet requirements for the federal tax rebate, but Bosch does. That is difference maker for me to choose Bosch.

I just replaced an old 13 SEER single stage unit with furnace with a 17SEER Daikin Fit Heat pump. I ran into two problems. 1) Surprisingly, there was absolutely no energy savings on my summer power bill. 2) It produces a loud buzzing noise in the wall in the winter. No real good reasons given for why the Daikin Fit wasn't more energy efficient. The manufacturer says the Daikin line sets run at higher pressures in general and especially in the winter. And this likely causes this buzzing in the walls. They suggest running the line set up the wall externally to remove the buzzing noise. Are you familiar with this issue? And will running the line set up the wall definitely remove the buzzing line set issue? Any feed back would be helpful. THANKS!!

My 20 year old Trane AC has failed and I would like to replace it with a Bosch 20 SEER heat pump utilizing my current Tempstar 95 % furnace in a dual fuel system. I also have a Honeywell VisionPro 8000 Wi-Fi thermostat, Honeywell and Sanuvox UV lights, Honeywell media filter, Honeywell outdoor thermometer and Honeywell Humidifier. . Two of the three contractors I have contacted say the thermostat is compatible with the Bosch heat pump. One does not, and recommends an Ecobee 6 Pro thermostat. Has anyone had any compatibility issues with the Honeywell thermostat and the 20 seer heat pump? The installer who recommended the Ecobee thermostat also wants to flush the line set rather than replace it. Is this acceptable? One question: With a VisionPro 8000 thermostat, in a dual fuel system how does the thermostat know when to switch over from the Bosch heat pump to the Tempstar gas furnace?

I have a question regarding a Daikin Vs Bosch heat pump 1.0. My wife has a health condition where her body and mostly her legs get hot and even for most on the winter our AC is on. We just moved into another house and after 2 months the ac compressor died. After having an HVAC tech check it out I asked him to check the furnance and found out the heat exchanger was cracked. Both systems were installed in 97. I am trying to see what set up would be the best fit for trying to keep the bedroom at 66 most of the year. Its a ranch house and dont really need to cool the whole 2000 sq ft and only the 250sq ft bedroom. I am looking at a Bosh 1.0 maybe 2.0 heat pump with a napolean 9700 furnance or some combo of a daikin mini split for the bedroom and get a new daikin ac and furnance for rest of house. I currently have a 3 ton unit and in NW IL close to Wis onsin, so it get very cold in some winters. I know i would need some kind if crank case heater and maybe a blanket to help with it freezing. I want the one that would save me the most on my electric bill. My previous house we had a carrier infinity with 5 zones. We lived in the house fot 18yrs and replaced the compressor after 12yrs. Which combo would be best for my situation?

Short answer to your long question is that any communicating inverter system is going to be more efficient typically than the technology that Bosch uses. Bosches are great and have really cool technology. However they don’t have the capability of true communicating inverter systems and the ability to ramp down among other things.
