Consider using the Bible app (by "Youversion"), some versions of the Bible offer audio versions such as NLT. I am not dyslexic, but it's been a huge help for me because I don't really like reading lol.

GOD and Jesus are one and the same - so the answer to the question is "Yes"

Note how in John's first epistle he begins talking about the anti-Christ's and how they deny Christ's Divinity, then he talks about the false-Prophets and how they try to use Christ's Divinity to deliver untrue revelation. This is a perfect parallel for John's Revelation in which he talks about the First Beast, the Anti-Christ, and the Second Beast, the False-Prophet. Seems clear to me that the First Beast is a system that denies Christ, and the second beast is a system that uses Christ to accomplish the will of the First Beast. That's why John warns us against loving the world in his epistle. The Second Beast will fool the very elect (if it were possible) by promoting worldly things with Christian doctrine wrongly applied.

I feel that. God loves you. I came here wanting to listen to the John's after I guess I could call it realizing just how powerful and holy God really is, and how terrifying it would be to try to be with God... because of our position compared to Him.. but Jesus gave us the only way to be in relationship with God, and then just realizing how Jesus and God and His Spirit are One, it's awe inspiring.. and that He is relational to be in relationship with us and has not only perfect holiness but perfect LOVE for me and you and everyone who will choose Him, it's incredible

Thank you Jonathan, as the Bible Project tends to focus a lot on poorly defined love and not so much on obedience. As you stated very clearly, and as John does very clearly, we must obey his commands to love him, not simply exercise whatever our definition of love is.

Thank you very much because I needed to hear that I am trying to discern between the false teachings and the teachings of the self sacrificing love of the true God and with the Holy Spirit I listened to what you just explained and it became very clear to me exactly where the spirit of division in the spirit of Cain started showing up in the church of the Ephesians

I had always thought the end of 1 John was kinda out of place, but now I get it… anything other than Christ is an idol! Thanks 🙏🏼

It's almost hard to believe that at the formation of the New Testament canon, John's letters almost didn't make it! It was only John's personal knowledge and witness of Jesus that kept these letters in. What a deeply important message written by a loyal disciple! If Jesus is not raised, we are all lost in our sins. But, Jesus is raised, so we have eternal victory and hope. John speaks so much on the importance (and essence) of God and His LOVE. Happy Easter to all.

I love your summaries...but I'm amazed how there's no mention of "abiding". It is the most repeated phrase throughout the short letter, repeated 14 times. Abiding in God, He in us, abiding in the light, abide in the Son, God's seed abides in us, abiding forever... Sure maybe a 'Dude' joke might be low-hanging fruit, but abiding seems to be the deepest theme of the book.

Understanding God's love helps us to be in him and I think that was very clear in the explanation

This was first course I ever took in Bible College -- in 1959. Details long ago buried in the minefield known as memory, but from time to time 'know' there is something there I need to go back and 'remember'.
