I can't believe Jennifer passed away. So heartbreaking! I appreciated what you had to say about her. Definitely praying for all her loved ones! I can't even imagine what they must be feeling right now. I'm glad you've got some Jean Little. I love her children's historical fiction.

Hi Kate, Thank you for this list. Since you were the second to recommend A Year of Wonder, I just bought two copies: one as a gift, and one for myself. (We need something to get us through winter in the Midwest! I found a few playlists for the book collated on KZread. Clemency Burton-Hill has also done a few KZread videos promoting/describing the book--- interesting to get a feel for the author behind the "voice." So far, it's been interesting to be able to listen to a few versions of each piece. One can really go down rabbit holes with the signposts she's created. By the way, the search for this title also brought up a book tuber posting as "Book Traveller," a British retired accountant who spent five years in South Africa. He ceased taping a couple years ago, but his video of "Ten Books About Me" is quite endearing, a window into the life of a wonderful person. Worth watching.

Kate, thank you for the lovely tribute to Jennifer. I adored her channel and learned so much from her. It's just obscene that she should die so young, and my heart aches for her mother. As I'm not much of a commenter I regret that I had never told her just how much I valued her. And the first person I thought of who I should say the same to is you, who I feel the same way about. Thank you, too, my dear, you are also a treasure.

I also loved reading 'Howards End is on the Landing' though I like Jane Austen much more than she does. The Classical Music book sounds lovely, I think it would add to my life. I admit I thought it was some twisted joke too when I saw someone's comments on Steve Donoghue saying Jennifer brought them to his channel, but that she had passed. I had to go to her channel, because I hadn't watched the video her mother posted. I loved her channel and she inspired me to give Anne Rice another shot and get into Bernard Cornwall.

Happy New Year, Kate and thank you for highlighting 'This Homeward Ache,' I am so intrigued! Thanks as well for your graceful tribute to Jennifer, I know that was not easy to deliver Somehow, after nearly 2 years Booktubing it up, I took proper notice of Jennifer's channel only about 6 months ago. Jennifer's enthusiasm and intelligence reignited my love of historical non-fiction by leaps and bounds. I was still forging thru her amazing catalogue when her mom's sad video popped up last week. I clicked on it, expecting to watch a eulogy from Jennifer in honor of a recently deceased author, so the actual content was a gut-punch. Sending love and prayers to the Brooks family and glad tidings to all the Heavenly angels who I know will become very well-read in no time...

Hi Kate. As I predominantly read classics, I have a limited history of fantasy reading, but I do remember reading the Duncton Chronicles shortly after they were first released and thoroughly enjoyed them. Am keen to hear your thoughts once you have finished Duncton Wood. I agree: Dane Ortland's books are a real encouragement. Another wonderful book of collected prayers is Tim Chester's 'Into His Presence: Praying with the Puritans'. Have you come across it? Of course, 'The Valley of Vision' is still the best in my humble opinion :) Regards, Kim.

She gave me permission to borrow, but i limited myself. Prayer is a key topic, and discipline, i seem to be drawn to this year, too, so i took some books on prayer from her collection. I enjoyed Willett’s A Week in Winter. It was very much like Pilcher. If you enjoy spiritual books, try Joan Chittister’s The Rule of Benedict and others. Also Marina Wiederkehr and Joyce Rupp. I’m sure you have probably read Thomas Merton, but if not definitely his. New Seeds of Contemplation, Dialogues with Silence and No Man is an Island are some good ones. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about Helen Rebanks book. That’s one that I want to read. Also want hear about the Cadell ones, as I loved the one that I read, Iris in Winter? Did you read The Apricot Sky by Ruby Ferguson? I loved that one too. She also was kind of DES like.
