    Loved hearing about your favorites! There's something about becky chambers writing that just puts me in such an enjoyable world. And the largest of congratulations on getting your new house!

    I love this list! I have Oscar et la dame rose and Wandering Souls on my TBR upon your recommendation already :) you convinced me to prioritize Becky Chambers this year! I read Dracula and was also surprised by how much I liked it, the drama was so funny! I’m currently listening to Small Worlds, the beginning is indeed a little slow but I’ll push through to get to the good parts:)

    How exciting to be all moved in and have a new space to be lived in. So many on your list that I really enjoyed and so many I still need to read! Kukum and Small Worlds are two I keep meaning to get to. Open Water was so, so good. Also, I've not read any Becky Chambers yet - so I wonder if I would enjoy her writing. I loved The Kite Runner so I'd also be really curious to check out A Thousand Splendid Sons. Thanks for sharing these and so glad to see you back posting videos. 🥰

    Great selection of books here! I really liked The Marriage Portrait. I also have to have some hopefulness in dark and bleak books, those ones are the best. 😊📚

    Just finished reading The Postcard by Anne Berest. WW!! in France and current days of a woman looking for her family history and how it translates to her. If you haven't read it I encourage you to try it. I was so hooked by this book in a surprising ways. Both timelines are well done and I thought it was non-fiction till I realized it said "a novel" on the cover. Sad, tragic, heartwarming and relevant but with hope and lots of insights for me. Thanks for this wonderful video on the books you read in 2023. Well done!

    Love ATSS and I really need to start the newer series from Becky Chambers I meant to read SW from CAN and didn't get round to it, great to see it was a favourite for you. It's on my TBR this year. I felt quite different about Dracula 😅Blurb your enthusiasm sounds cool and I really need to read Michelle Obama.

    don't worry about a book background, I always miss having mine in the lounge but it saves me time to film in the little room where I don't have a book background. It feels weird at first but I think as someone viewing your video I don't mind it that you don't have books in the background.

    Oh Kukum sounds really good, is there an englihs translation I can check out? I read a short story colleciotn by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt a couple of years ago, and I was really pleasantly surpised by those.

    Lots of interesting books there. I'm most intrigued by Eric and the Lady in Pink. I just googled it and it says it's #3 in a series. Did you read it as a standalone? Obviously that didn't hamper your enjoyment. I might try and buy it in English and French. I have ponderous level French, and have a few books that I've bought in both languages to try and read them to improve my French, I need to start doing that actually with the books I already have....

  • @hasteyebooks

    @hasteyebooks

    It's definitely a standalone read, don't worry! I've read other books in the 'series' and it's not related, except that it's all about the meaning of life and belonging in a way. Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt is probably a good one to improve your French as they are quite short and not full of over complicated language :)

    Fantastic, thanks so much. I've ordered English and French versions of it. Is it written for an adult audience? Or would it qualify for Middle Grade March do you think?

  • @hasteyebooks

    @hasteyebooks

    @@LouiseReader That's a good question. I think it's written for adults, but the narrator is the boy so it can feel more middle grade-y. Looking forward to hearing what you think!
