Booker T - Why I Quit Impact Wrestling, Not Jobbing to Matt Morgan

Ойын-сауық

Booker T on the night he quit Impact Wrestling & what happened with the Matt Morgan ➤ TitleMatchNetwork.com
Produced & owned by Title Match Media LLC
Originally, Booker T was asked to lose to Matt Morgan on TNA TV (Impact Wrestling). Booker had no problem with it at all. Only thing was, Kurt Angle was supposed to be involved in the finished where Matt Morgan would eventually get the win. Come the night of the TNA TV Taping, Booker T was told that plans were changed and Matt Morgan was just going to beat him in 5 minutes clean. Well, needless to say Booker T walked out and the match never happened. Here is how Booker T remembers it!

Sorry but I'm with Booker on this. He was willing to put Morgan over and at the last minuet they tried to change it and have the veteran come out looking weak. It doesn't matter if he was leaving, Morgan gets the same shine with any type of win over Booker, and doing it the original way doesn't hurt either of them. He's a proud man and they insulted him... I respect his decision to walk away.

Mark Cassidy I agree with you on this. Now, had Booker lost in a back-&-forth, passing-of-the-torch manner (a la the Ultimate Warrior beating Hulk Hogan) then it would’ve been all good. But again, to have Booker get his ass handed to him....naw!

You people are misconstruing what King Booker is saying here. He was originally asked to put Morgan over clean in what was to be a highly competitive match but when he showed up to TV they swerved him, told him he'd now be losing to Morgan clean in a squash match and that's where the rift happened is not that he wasn't willing to put the guy over he just wasn't willing to do it in squash fashion

Scores Man actually, he didn't say that though, he said Kurt Angle was going to interfere, and then tna wanted to change it to a 5 minute match where Morgan won clean, then tna was willing to change the finish back after he said he wasn't going to do that, but he felt insulted so he wasn't going to do the original plan now either. I do believe him too, that he had no heat with Matt Morgan, it sounds like he wasn't happy with the company. Anyways, people shouldn't take what booker says the wrong way, he doesn't seem to have any issue putting someone over, he didn't have a problem helping Matt Morgan get over, it just sounds like the way it was being booked was the problem. He felt he was better than what they was wanting him to do, it is very similar to the reason why Austin gave for not wanting to do the job for Brock in a throw away tv match when it could of been built towards a ppv, and booker did finish his obligations, showed up for his final ppv, he may not of done much but it isn't like he decided to just no show, and there are people who have done that too. Booker is being pretty upfront about what happen

There's a difference between a job and putting someone over, especially when using a veteran. A 6 min squash over a champion does not put someone over unlike a 15 min competitive match. They changed the original plans to some B.S. and Booker didn't approve of that, so whose fault was it in this situation. This sounds similar to the Brock/Austin argument when Austin didn't want to waste a loss against an up-and-coming star in a 6 min TV match.

Booker T lost the TNA Legends Championshhip to AJ Styles on PPV, the TNA Legends title didn't change to TNA Television Championship until 2010. Before that it was renamed the TNA Global Championship which happened after Booker left. Clearly his way off and his memory is seeing it completely different to reality.

I feel for Book. When he entered WWE he was given the whole "Oh, WCW guy, let's make him a heel for most of his time here" treatment. Very few of his title wins as heel were clean (granted, that's how it usually goes) and his clean wins as face were far less. Never understood why he was constantly being pushed down - Book has amazing charisma and was always smooth in the ring - I imagine he's also a stand-up guy to boot, yet during his WWE time it felt like his potential was always intentionally held back, so to then be asked in another company as a renowned champ to just lay down and get squashed (which has happened before), I can understand getting a bit tired of that shit.

For those who disagree with him, reconsider what happened in WWE back when he went up against HHH at Summerslam in 2007. That match was a burial. I think Booker T was being punished at the time for doing the King gimmick much better than Jerry Lawler and HHH (the self-professed King of Kings) ever could. He had no choice but to put HHH over and he probably felt disrespected at the time and vowed never to, "roll over" so easily for the higher-ups.

But, when he was informed, he gave his notice to the company. They officially released him by that October. So it had nothing to do with him out performing anyone as King.

I couldn't make this up. Look at his rise in popularity as a heel (on SmackDown) when he was King Booker and then sudden halt to his gimmick at Summerslam 2007. Did you see the smirk on HHH face at King Booker across the ring before the bell rang? If those drugs were the reason, I don't believe he had anything to do with it - he never needed them. He was physically talented and physique-wise, he had always looked the same. The only things that had changed was his hair and wrestling attire (from tights to trunks).

You people realize the company wanted to embarrass him right? They would never tell him that if he had 6 months left on his contract. He is a vet and he wouldn't do that for Morgan because it didn't make sense. If it was a story maybe at a ppv in a 20 minute match he would have put him over and it would have been better for Morgan rather than just some random 5 minute match with entrances. Taker didn't do that for roman, he had a main event match and a long match to help roman out, but he would never lose to him in a 5 minute match on raw.

Booker T lost the TNA Legends Championship clean in match to AJ Styles at Destination X 2009. I'm a fan of Booker T & I agree shouldn't have lost to Matt Morgan on TV with no build up. That said I recall his last TNA match (Bound For Glory 2009) & like he said he was in & out in 5 minutes (essentially phoning it it) while his tag team partner Scott Steiner worked the whole match & busted his ass for the fans.

  • @nWoWolfpacTV2016

    @nWoWolfpacTV2016

I think my point is obvious. Booker T was wrote off like that (& not used in the last month of his contract) because he'd become difficult to work with (according to dirthseets at least). To elaborate...in addition to the Matt Morgan incident, he refused to wrestle in the main event of house show in Zurich, Switzerland (when Scott Steiner got too much heat & fans started throwing stuff at them in the ring). His unhappiness became very apparent; he repeatedly focused on WWE wrestlers in interviews despite being part of TNA, he confessed in aforementioned interviews his range of characters, accents, & body language (all on TNA’s dime) were essentially him audtioning for Hollywood. His workrate became absolutely minimal. Although I'm sure he had his reasons, he was still paid good money & imo should have performed to the best of his ability. That said regardless of the excuses the bottom line is he was on cruise control towards end his run & it's not admirable. I remember being VERY dissapointed that he did he FUCK ALL in that Bound For Glory match because like I said I am a fan of his and wanted to see him perform. I think hs refusual to put over Morgan over, is proof a perofomer of his stature, in that company could pretty much do what he wanted within reason. He could have put in some work at BFG 09 i.e. leave it all out in the ring & go out in blaze of glory BEFORE doing the injury angle.

As a fellow black male, I too am a fan of Booker T, but I believe Booker T is on some petty bitch shit. Seriously, he could've done the honorable thing and put another wrestler over, but no, he acted like he was too big for the brand and ended up stepping on guy's toes, just because he was an Ex-WWE/WCW guy. It really speaks volumes when Scott Steiner, the man who is supposed to be the lesser worker of the 2, displays better workrate than you do, Booker. It saddens me that he didn't have any respect during his time in TNA, especially after the shit he went through in WWE at the time (WM19, anyone?)

They came to him with the plan. He agreed. They changed the plans to make him look like an asshole. He said no. They did offered to do the original plan. He said no because of the disrespect. Where exactly is the "petty bitch shit"? He is a 6 time world champion, one of/if not the most decorated wrestlers of all time, and they are basically trying to job him out to MATT MORGAN gtfo. You sound like a TNA faithful with that logic.

I was at a Texans game when they first came to Houston and they had a big tailgate party in the arena parking lot. I was having a blast when I noticed booker t walking alongside some unknown juiced up wrestlers handing out flyers. I remember him looking straight at me and just looking. I said nothing and he looked surprised that I didn't know of him. I actually did but not the type of guy to use that as a pedestal as if I know you on some personal level. I respect privacy. but one thing I noticed is he never said hi to anyone never introduced himself as booker t or really was helping in a way to market his brand as the flyers were for some show he was hosting. this interview here points out to my thought at the time he was full of himself and actually thought of himself as some kind of legend or feeling he was above everyone. if I was in his shoes I really wouldn't care how I jobbed as long as it told a story or meant a later fued which this could have been. your being paid to do something and just because its not exactly how you want I think does not compensate for the walk out. he acts like it was a shoot fight and they asked him not to fight back. I kind of feel now he realizes wrestling is all he has and he is suffering from losing some sort of respect if he jobs to soon. I would think he would be doing the fans a favor by making it short and sweet rather than a long drawn out match which in no way would I wanna see involving booker. his matches were never that great unless they were quick and powerful with everybody getting their shit in one after the other. just goes to show you he actually thinks people wanna see him wrestle for that long and gawk at him stalling in sleeper holds and so forth. he is terribly full of himself.

Love you Booker. You were one of my favs as a kid and I still respect you to this day, but as a fan I'm not going to be blind. I remember his TNA run very well. Booker phoned it in. Especially the later half. Other guys like Christian and Bully used TNA as a way to re-invent themselves while Booker clearly used it as a paycheck.

Doesn't matter how many times Booker T JOBed or who he JOBed for in the past, he was willing to put Matt Morgan over and they should have been pleased with that. These guys are contracted, but they have many rights within their contracts that protects their product, which happens to be them. While he may have been leaving, he was still not retiring completely as a wrestler yet. He had to protect the product, and I dont blame him. Obviously it was ultimately his decision on if he did it or not, because there was no talk of contract obligation to perform exactly how they wanted him to. They should not have even approached him with the set up, it was either a stupid idea, or an ill attempt at hurting his reputation.

sbones exactly he has a product to protect and it’s himself. He doesn’t want to appear weak. He didn’t mind being cheated out of the belt by outside interference but then the company wanted to change it up. Hey he deserved the right to change his mind also.

The only thing that was missing from Morgan is that when he opened his mouth I wanted to fall asleep. When wrestlers are talking on the mic it needs to come within.

I'm amazed that so many marks on this comments section don't understand the difference between doing the job (or doing the favour), and jobbing. They are different things. It's also clear that so many commenting are part of the mentality of why wrestling is essentially dead today. This is a wrestler who has paid his dues many times over, protecting his worth as an independent contractor. So few wrestlers have any self-worth these days and are effectively ALL jobbers in the company sense, because there is no market value in wrestling any more. A wrestler has no leverage. Unless they want to go to Japan, they can make a good living in WWE, or scrape a living in TNA complemented by a few bucks in the independents. They have no ability to negotiate or say no to any of the WWE script writing team's ridiculously crap storylines and production, and hence the product has gone to shit, because nothing natural is coming from the 'wrestler's' mouth or in their actual wrestling. It's ALL the WWE style, which, I hate to tell you but it is the god damn reality, is absolutely shit. Brock Lesnar has value, John Cena, Kurt Angle, maybe Jericho, and that's about it sadly. As a wrestling fan of 30 years, it pains me to say it, but the harsh reality is that wrestling is dead, and has been for nigh on a decade now. What we have now is a product for marks, hence why ratings are low and will NEVER return to mainstream. Sad, but 100% true.

I remember his last TNA match when they had him on a stretcher and he was supposed to be hurt bad but he was all laughing and shit. It was funny. He was laughing to the bank and right back to WWE. I think by that time Hogan & Bischoff were destroying TNA from within with their old WCW shit.

I'm a fan of Booker and all but he needs to stop pretending to not know what really happened. He lost the belt to AJ Styles. The Legends title became the Global Title later that year and then in 2010 it became the TV Title which was after Booker left TNA. Either he was pissed at losing the belt to AJ or he's just trying to play stupid so he looks like a TNA victim

A lot of you know ZERO on old school wrestling etiquette. Legends are supposed to go out with a decent bang. At least something to remember. Vince has got yal thinking everybody should go out getting screwed or just bashed on in their last match. It's ridiculous. Every time Brock and Goldberg have a terrible match, it makes me want to puke. Same feeling when a legend jobs to some new guy who probably won't be in the business the next year. If I was his caliber, I woulda walked out too.
