“There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass! Who's been pinching my beer? And at the other end of the bar the world is full of the other type of person, who has a broken glass, or a glass that has been carelessly knocked over (usually by one of the people calling for a larger glass) or who had no glass at all, because he was at the back of the crowd and had failed to catch the barman's eye. ”

Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. “It doesn’t matter who brought you into this world. We’re all sons of the sea!” -Edward Newgate, One Piece Spoilers for WOT Memory of Light below. You have been warned. “It was about a woman, torn and beaten down, cast from her throne and made a puppet- a woman who had crawled when she had to. That woman still fought. It was about a man that love repeatedly forsook, a man who found relevance in a world that others would have let pass them by. A man who remembered stories, and who took fool boys under his wing when the smarter move would have been to keep on walking. That man still fought. It was about a woman with a secret, a hope for the future. A woman who had hunted the truth before others could. A woman who had given her life, then had it returned. That woman still fought. It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could. It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not Heal those who had been harmed. It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero. It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shone with the Light for all who watched. Including Rand. It was about them all… That one you have tried to kill many times, Rand said, that one who lost his kingdom, that one from whom you took everything… Lurching, bloodied from the sword strike to his side, the last king of the Malkieri stumbled to his feet. Lan thrust his hand into the air, holding by its hair the head of Demandred, general of the Shadow’s armies. That man, Rand shouted. That man still fights!” WOT

You had 2 Fredrik Backman quotes, but I prefer this one from A Man Called Ove. "Death is a strange thing. People live their whole lives as if it does not exist, and yet it's often one of the greatest motivations for living. Some of us, in time, become so conscious of it that we live harder, more obstinately, with more fury. Some need its constant presence to even be aware of its antithesis. Others become so preoccupied with it that they go into the waiting room long before it has announced its arrival. We fear it, yet most of us fear more than anything, that it may take someone other than ourselves. For the greatest fear of death is always that it will pass us by. And leave us there alone."

@@seemabhutani129 Of course! Let's take a dream for example. We all agree that our dreams aren't "really happening," since they have no direct effect on the world around us (roughly speaking). Yet, our bodies have physiological reactions to our dreams, if you're having a nightmaer that is very stressful you might wake up sweating or with your heart racing, or if someone you love dies in a dream you might wake up crying. So while these things in our dreams don't "really happen," they are real. Real in a different way than having a material consequence. Real to us, emotionally real. Our minds and bodies are still experiencing the dream, even if it's not "happening." That is just one way in which something could "not really be happening" while also "being real." Gintama is much better experienced once you have a considerable knowledge baggage on anime and manga though. I feel like Merphy wouldnt appreciate it enough if she wont get all the anime and manga references, its like the cherry on top of the series. But yes there is also the found family trope in it if she ever wants to watch or read the manga (I recommend the anime for this one, the voice acting makes the story even better)

Loved all these.A couple from Lightbringer that I found really impactful: "Some say, ‘Who you are is what you do.’ They’re wrong, but not all wrong. What you do forms who you are. Then who you are forms what you do. It’s a vicious cycle, or a virtuous one, depending. One act doesn’t undo all of who you are, but a thousand acts make you who you are. So it’s simple, though not easy: stop creating the wrong you." “If you’re trapped in the darkness all alone, how do you know you’re alone and not actually surrounded by an army of friends, also silent, also afraid in the dark, merely waiting for the sound of one voice to rouse them from fear, to fight for freedom?” And finally: "'What do you call it when you realize you've been an a**hole your whole life?' [Character name] asked. 'A good start?'"

Dockson sighed, shaking his head. Vin could finally see some emotion in his face. "You know," he said, "it amazes me sometimes that we even try. With everything they've done to us-the deaths, the tortures, the agonies-you'd think that we would just give up on things like hope and love. But we don't. Skaa still fall in love. They still try to have families, and they still struggle. I mean, here we are... fighting Kell's insane little war, resisting a god we know is just going to slaughter us all." You can try to take away everything from someone, but you really can't unless they let you. My fave is from “The Thief of Time” by Terry Pratchett. “Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. Therefore, he understood, there is, in truth, no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it”. This hits me so deeply and is why I love Terry Pratchett so much

A couple of Sanderson quotes: "A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us. But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination. To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one." -Oathbringer And this one most of all: “At first glance, the key and the lock it fits may seem very different,” Sazed said. “Different in shape, different in function, different in design. The man who looks at them without knowledge of their true nature might think them opposites, for one is meant to open, and the other to keep closed. Yet, upon closer examination, he might see that without one, the other becomes useless. The wise man then sees that both lock and key were created for the same purpose.” -The Well of Ascension
