Bolt Action Firefight! Solo narrative campaign

Ойындар

Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel! In these current times, I imagine that a lot of us will be looking at ways of solo gaming to scratch that hobby itch. I certainly have and have decided to start a solo narrative campaign using the Bolt Action Firefight rules.
This is the first video in what I hope will be an ongoing narrative campaign set in 1940 during the invasion of France, specifically centered on the fictional village of Mervel. In this first encounter, we see two small units of German and French infantry clashing on the outskirts of Mervel in a small firefight. Each game will see potential casualties with the following game being based on the outcome of the previous encounter. I have used a small number of my own house rules and these are explained in the video intro.
I had a lot of fun playing this and the Firefight rules really are great for a solo narrative such as this!
If you have any comments or questions, just pop them below and I will certainly respond to all questions and comments. If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and consider subscribing to the channel for more gaming goodness!

Very good Ste, some interesting firefights. Yeah at that scale the lmg is good 😁 I think the rules would work well for recreating the stories from the commando comics 👍

Cheers Lee, yeah the LMG may have to be reviewed for the next encounter as it pretty much dominated the fire fight from start to finish. Rouzet may be disappointed that I take his prized LMG away but...this is war! Absolutely yes, that would be a really cracking way to play the game :)

Thanks Gareth, that's very kind of you! I'm glad you enjoyed and yes, its a great way for solo play if you just allow the narrative to lead the game. I tried to move/fire react etc as if they would have done in real life rather than just to win a game :)

Hey thanks Paul! Its the first time that I've used the Firefight rules and they work really well if with such a small amount of figures on the table. For solo play, definitely so. Focusing on the narrative made the game flow really well :)

Cheers buddy, glad you liked it! I would certainly recommend it if you have an urge to throw some dice around. With the Firefight rules, it feels more like playng out a story than a wargame :)

The LMG turned out to be absolutely brutal with some very accurate fire from Rouzet! The rules worked really well. It's essentially Bolt Action but small scale. Highly recommended ☺

It was a really fun game, it felt like more of a story book encounter than a game. Ah yes, the LMG was absolutely brutal! I think I may need to look at it for the next game :)

That's awesome Lee thank you, glad you enjoyed it buddy! The Firefight rules can be downloaded free from the Warlord Games website. They are a great addition to the rules. I'm hoping to get the next instalment of the solo campaign done this week. Agree with you that Bolt Action is a tremendous game 😊

Ste, i'm in the middle of painting my British Airborne, and was thinking of using Firefight for a quick solo game. So searched KZread, and found you'd already been there! Cheers. Did you use Fantasy Name Generator www.fantasynamegenerators.com/german_names.php for your teams?

Hey Allan, huge apologies for the delay in responding to you. I think because you had included a link in your comment, it was flagged as spam or something. Apologies for that! Yes, the fantasy name generator was an invaluable tool in naming the chaps from each side. Its really a great way of coming up with some random names when you wan to personalise a game or section etc :)

it could do with a wound as well as pin or casualty and accumulated wounds lead to a kill

Thanks Jacob! Yeah, I was thinking of something on similar lines whereby if a character incurs more than three injuries then they are retired from the section and need to be replaced. That's what I like about Firefight, there is so much scope for customisation and introducing home brew rules to your games ☺

The only chance vs an LMG is good cover and distance. I don't even know is the LMG range smaller than the rifle? The Germans should have avoided going there piecemeal and just focused on their right flank and got around the house.

  • @OnPointHQ

    @OnPointHQ

Yes the LMG was very brutal in this game! Even with the German using the hedgerows as cover, because the game was fought in such a small area the LMG was a lot deadlier. In Firefight, it is often quite difficult to hit your target but the LMG made no mistakes that day! The LMG has a slightly longer range when compared to a rifle with a range of 36" :)
