Bolt Action kit bashing - Partisans and SAS

Ойындар

Hello everybody and welcome back to the channel and a spot of kit bashing! Now this is nothing to the channel but this kit bashing was definitely something of a challenge…..so what have I been up to? I have recently read a book about the Das Reich division and its journey to Normandy following D-Day and a lot of the book was dedicated to the Maquis and other resistance groups in France that attempted to hamper the journey. In addition to this, in a recent kit bashing video a comment was left about attempting to kit bash partisans……so I thought why not?
The most difficult part of this kit bash was changing the military uniforms to make them look a lot more civilian or less military looking than they were originally. These are more concept/work in process figures rather than finished pieces as I don’t really intend to make a full project of these but I wanted to see if it was at all possible to make partisans/resistance using Bolt Action plastics. I have made five so far and also modified two metal SAS figures as part of the Jedburgh troops dropped into France.
What are your opinions on these? Should I make some more, am I completely off track with the overall look? I would like really like to hear your feedback on these kit bashes.

That's really awesome you deciding to get into Bolt Action, it's a wonderful game and you will definitely enjoy it. If you are interested, check out my playlist Bolt Action Basics. Hey Colton, no worries buddy and thanks for the inspiration! It's not something I'd ever thought about making before but it definitely interested me. Like I said in the video, the most challenging part of making these was altering the uniforms to make them look a lot less like uniforms. Pretty pleased with the results so far though 😊

    I like the volktroops, the brown painted one gaves a lot of civilian feeling, i wish you would have done more that color, even brighter colors, i guess they ware their own cloths in the end of the war, i hate pesky partizans, but i like your conversions, the one with australian feather cap looks fantastic, pirate looking. Have you thought about using some of the other ranges from Warlord, like the Pike and Shotte infantry? Another range to consider for more civilian clothing is the newer Perry ACW models, specifically the Union infantry in sack coats and the newer Confederate infantry as they have bodies not in the traditional marching pose.

  • @OnPointHQ

    @OnPointHQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Patric, that's a really good suggestion thank you! I think the ACW idea would work really well, especially confederate uniforms as this would give a rural look to the clothing. Excellent! I shall definitely look into this 😊👍

  • @patricpeters9716

    @patricpeters9716

    @@OnPointHQ Yeah the "rural look" is something that would sell the idea that these are farmers and village folk who have taken up arms. Might want to look into the WW1 Germans from Wargames Atlantic for older mauser rifles and the MG08 as it would've been more probable for resistance members to steal these from rear-line troops who didn't have the latest and greatest. Actually that WW1 Germans kit would be excellent for Volksstrum because of the antiquated weapons.

  • @OnPointHQ

    @OnPointHQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think the antiquated weapons would be a really nice look, especially on Volkssturm. It would give the impression that these weapons have been stored in attics and barns etc and have been rather hastily pressed into service again! The rural look is definitely something that I would want to aim for my resistance figures, it would certainly put them in the right setting as villagers and farmers etc :)

  • @OnPointHQ

    @OnPointHQ

    Cheers mate, much appreciated! Mine all started with the Fallschirmjager army as you get a lot for a 1000 point army. But another option is to decide what you want your 'core' infantry to be - Grenadiers, Fallschirmjager, SS etc and then add support options, artillery, tanks etc after this. Another way I like to paint/build is by points. Start with 500 and then increase in increments of 250 points. But I would probably say grab an infantry box, get your painting scheme down and then add the support options 😊

    @@OnPointHQ - I’ve always thought a kneeling guy with a scratch built detonator plunger would have been a good addition to an SAS unit, he could still have a Lee Enfield strapped to his back and count as a rifleman for gaming purposes 👍
