Bodywork Suzuki Samurai with the ARCCAPTAIN MIG 200

In this video I use the ARCCAPTAIN MIG 200 to weld some body panels that Mark fabricated for his Suzuki Samauri. I welded panels with .030 solid MIG wire and 75/25 mixed shield gas. The ARCCAPTAIN MIG 200 was ran on 240V AC off of my Trailblazer 302 on the Super Service Truck.

CB, I know "you're the man" when it comes to welding, but I prefer .023" solid wire for body work because it imparts less heat to the panel. For butt-welding 18-gauge panels together, I use minimum voltage and a slow-ish wire feed rate. For welding 16 gauge to 18 gauge (e.g., doing floor pans) I use the next-to-minimum voltage and the same slow wire feed rate. I have found there is too much risk of warping the panel when using .030" wire. .030" wire carries 1.7 times as much heat to the weld as .023" wire does.

And burn through, 100% agree with threst of your comment. The cost of 023 wire is more because it is so thin. Here in the UK, a 15kg reel (34lbs approx) is about £70 ($100) approximately for good quality wire.

I don't get the metal hotter with .030....if anything your putting more heat into it with .023 Use whatever works best for ya I'm just sharing my own personal experiences best I can

I agree CB it's been my experience that the slightly larger wire will take up some of that heat but everyone has there own experiences and I respect that and love hearing them.

Great video! One criticism about the arc captain mig 200. The stinger broke after a few uses. It was still better than the Amazon replacement stinger which lasted 5 minutes before it literally broke in half in my hand. Keep the videos coming CB! They are awesome!

I've beat my ARCCAPTAIN stinger to death and almost caught it in fire but it still works Really should probably go to a welding supply store and upgrade the leads, ground, and stinger completely....but I want to see how long it takes the original stuff to fail first

If you like 023 for body work just order the rollers different folks different strokes. Doesn’t really sound as big a deal as you made it to.
