When I had it, it fucked up my hearing badly. along with (maybe?) giving me tinnitus. But apparently in the late stages it can cause brain absesses and can damage the facial nerve. not fun. would not recommend.

I think I was so unhappy because life can be very harsh. I felt weak and I felt unseen and like my destiny was to... I don't know, be a ghost slug. But in a weird way, life both challenges you and gives you people that help you at the same time. I think it's also a matter of remembering who you are. Discovering yourself and stuff. Learning to like yourself. Maybe understanding that though the dream of childhood has ended and the world is quite a lot of bullsh¡t combined in a giant can, that doesn't mean you cannot ever be a hero. My life is still full of challenges, but at least I appreciate my own arse. At least I am more relaxed and I don't put all that much value on the shallow things, more on the durable, unchanging ones. There are lots of people who kill themselves. I thought about doing that for a time. But even though I don't blame those who do, I am happy I did not. If I could've seen everything I was going to do, I would've instantly chilled down. Anyways, I learned that we always have an option, it's never too late to be your own hero and it is worth dreaming, healing and keeping faith in the world. Or in those that matter.

_"Just working to pay bills and exist further"_ Living without hope at the edge of nowhere. The depressing existence seemed like a heavenly refuge compared to the other world tho. Or maybe not. Sometimes our fears and depression can become like monsters that eat us alive. It seemed like there was a little subtle reference to the character's guilt over the mother's death. Certainly there were a lot of unanswered questions and that lack of closure can be emotionally oppressive by itself. The other world was a hellish place where monsters roam the hallways - but I don't think they are the hallways of the character's psyche, but a real place. I agree with MBH on that. I loved the art, the monsters were terrifying and wonderfully done. Hope the full game will come out soon.

well, at least with mental health issues you usually stay alive and don't die a horrible death unless you're suicidal, which not even every depressed person is, but with a world like the one the main character ended up in, you're going to be physically suffering and in the end die

It's almost definitely a dream. I actually really dislike that people hate on the trope. Like, it doesn't actually detract from the story at all when it's a dream. That idea of "it wasn't real so it didn't matter" will make a lot of horror suck for no benefit. The point is what's going on in the character's mind. It's like Persona. Are we really buying that they're just fighting the spirits of people's worst tendencies? No, of course not, it's *allegory* for crying out loud! That's how psychological horror *works* at its base. It not being real allows you to do things that aren't realistic and aren't just "okay but fiction tho".

Really curious how many pieces of media deal with starvation while not giving any attention to dehydration. The only vivid description of coming close to dying of thirst that I've seen was in one of The Witcher books. I guess things that hunger drives a person to are more dramatic and horrifying, but if you have only sewer-juice and rotten blood as your hydration options you're not getting to the point of snacking on your fingers to survive.

@@francogaray3273 (Im french) My dreams are related to some recurent stuff, like hate, pain, geopolitics and bodyhorror. I remember my first dream, it was in my grandmom's house. I was having hallucinations, that the walls where made of tiny iron ball, wriggling. I was walking across the room, panicking, anxious about the door. I wasn't remembering how to open a door. At the end of the night i was hidden under the cover of the bed, believing that an pitch blacked statue of an old men sitting on a chair was waiting for me to "'wake-up". There was one, where i was in front of a white page, that was so incredibly et beautifully smooth and calm that i was crying about it. But then it would just crumple up horribly and millions of horrible little drawings that looked cosmically abominable to me would appear on it, and it looked so awful that I couldn't close my eyes. Recently i was having one where really dark faces where looking at me. I was cappable of using my phone and even move, but i was too scared. The fact being that there where a power outage, and no light exept my phone where working. FInally, the faces changed slowly, until they crept into my bed and into my thoughts. It felt like nails and iron bars were being driven into my skull, I could almost feel their touch. I was talking to a friend via text message who was trying to reassure me, but at one point my phone was covered in a mass of absolutely horrific white flesh, like in the game "I have no mouth and I have to scream", but even more extreme, because the emotions of the nightmares are multiplied tenfold in an absolutely indefinable, grandiose and colossal way. In the game, on the A.M. computer stele, there's even a phrase in the epigraph of hate that perfectly represents a recurring nightmare I've had for a very long time that I have a hard time describing. "HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.". Imagine that existence does not exist and has never existed, neither begun nor ended, except for a face with forgettable features that stares you in the eye for eternity with a monstrous intensity. Then it is as if the concept of anger and hatred is transformed into an immense demonstration, the example of an infinitely violent war made only to hurt you. And right at the end, you come back to this being, the excruciatingly powerful sound of war cuts off in a dry and violent way and still echoes in your head like a plane crash. My heart was beating so hard. Knowing that this being who wanted the whole territory of existence, a space the size of my bed, and called it "his big country", puts you in a deep feverish unease. I remember getting up on my bed and saying, «Je sais ce que ça fait, je sais ce que ça fait, je sais ce que ça fait, je sais ce que ça fait». In these dreams im awake, but... dreaming, yk. A sleeping paralysis where i can walk and even speak. My hallucination really looks like what is in the game, but the whole feeling of the game really ressemble to my dreams. (and the fact that im in a heavy depression)

It's funny how nature can be more horror than we thought. For example: the scene where the protag exploded with larvae maybe inspired from some bug (iirc it was somekind of wasps) lifecycle. Also, some insect didnt like some fruit or flower (mosquitos with lavender / fruit), so the insect angle makes sense.

It's a really unique art style and I'm surprised not many people use it because its exaggerated nature really lends to the theme of parodying a dystopia. It combines well with the typical Soviet Bloch style industrial city stereotype in a lot of these types of games.
