Some serious creativity went into this. All the channels were distinct and plenty creepy, the parody shows were well done in feeling the right kind of off from what you'd expect, and just the idea of surfing cursed TV channels is a good idea executed well here.

I knew in theory that a lot of indie games must be made on tight budgets, but seeing the sheer shoestring creativity of using a green JPG on your monitor as a green screen, and persuading your mate to wear a cheap robe and be cloned four times to make a cult, gave me new appreciation for how indie devs work. Kudos to the artist for giving this such a strong style and identity that all the rough edges look like intentional style choices.

there is definitely a surreal feeling from watching tv so late at night that i really cannot explain, i remember being in high school and a very stupid kid, i wanted to watch teen titans so badly but at the time cartoon network only aired it at 1am so i really did wait that much to watch it at times while laying down in bed curled up in my blankets and while it was so worth it, sometimes i got such an eerie feeling from doing this alone that i really can't describe. spooky

I am so amazed by the sound design in this. I'm pausing this every minute with how good it sounds over speakers. It's like my neighbor's dog actually is barking, or sirens are wailing from a distant street, and I have to make sure everything outside is okay. I can't speak to how it sounds with earbuds, but wow. The creator nailed the atmosphere. Thanks for playing this for us Manly; it's a great game that captured me straight from the thumbnail.

Reminder that TV didn't used to be constant, the "American flag" bit that's on all 4 channels was the end of the broadcast for the day at like 11pm (or maybe a little later depending when). I'm not quite old enough to remember seeing it for myself, but I'm sure that at least here in the UK, we only had 3 terrestrial channels in the UK (edit: in the early 80s! learned from parents and watching the Young Ones lol!) and they definitely shut down overnight. I just imagine some folks here are too young to even know it was a thing!

Man I remember TV Guide, every Friday you'd have to go out and buy the new issue covering the upcoming week before reading through it 2 or 3 times as you scoured each page to make sure you didn't miss anything you wanted to watch, while writing down the time and what channel so you wouldn't forget. It was either that or going to the TV Guide channel and watch as it slooowly scrolls through showing what's currently on and coming up for the next hour and a half.

The thing that was on the TV was a horror movie about getting stuck in dreams/exploring dreams too much and it ends with a boss battle with the devil himself. Lucifer in the flesh. Being quite the religious kid it was a real scare. Had to watch 2 documentaries that came afterwards to calm down and go to sleep again.

The style in this piece just oozes out. A veritable picture out of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine! Phenomenal. It gave even me, an English person who wasn't alive in the '60s, that nostalgic feeling for a period we only absorb through pop culture these days (and see satirised in properties like Fallout). The original Twilight Zone broadcasts must have been so awesome to watch as a child, all in black and white with those clunky antennae. Although... This concept brings me such memories from childhood. I think every child fears the tv during the night in the dark and I was no exception. I remember when I was a kid, in the dark of the night the THX logo terrified me. I also remember when i was 5, from behind the couch in midnight the tv played a women with black braids, a sari, and sitting with hands behind her against a green background, two people dressed in black next to her. One of them slicing her neck. This is one of my earliest memories and gave me ptsd nightmares for so many years and feared watching the TV after midnight. P.s the american song playing at midnight reminds me of the Joanna Lopez tv sign off case. If you look it up, you'll get why.

Sometimes, you can just tell that a game is filled with a lot of love and care. Like, even without the lovely notes about the art and all that, you could tell while watching Manly play (or by playing the game) that the people behind it cared about what they were making, and I think that's super neat.

I'm pretty old, and I remember staying up late to when broadcasting actually ended, and they played the US national anthem before either pre-recorded paid programing or more likely, just a dead screen. This amused me more than scared me because of how many times I had to be the 'antenna bunny' to get a good signal. It really tugged on my nostalgia and seeing things in the snow with an overactive imagination.

Before I even start watching the video, this concept reminded me of something. When I was a little kid I stayed the night at my Grandpa and Aunt's place. I stayed up all night watching TV because they had left it on and went to sleep. Mr. Meaty had come on and you probably already know where I'm going with this. Having never seen the show before, my first episode ended up being the tapeworm episode late at night.

I like the way they added the end of programming segment in the beginning, really took me back. before all the channels had moved to automated 24 hour broadcasting, you would get the national anthem or a test screen with a message saying programming would resume at a specified time in the morning

In what way? I know I replayed the crushing part once right after it happened because I didn't see what killed him; I initially thought some form of monster (like the hands) must have appeared next to him and killed him, didn't realize the ceiling was encroaching. So are you making a joke about people never looking up or something?
