Eddielee Joseph I still want a redo of that but with better producers, director, writers, different network and casting call. I think bet can get the job done. I love how they don't try to put everything in a 2 hr movie. Looking forward to this bobby brown story.

I NEVER had any respect for Bobby Brown (he and Whitney's drug use always made my heart break), but I have to be honest...after seeing this interview and the fact he can admit he let his ego run out of control at times I have to give him props for being real. Takes a big man to admit there was a communication break down instead of blaming someone else. The fact NE could all get back together and learn something from everything that happened to them makes me respect them as people. I hope future generations of entertainers realize what a gift NE's story is as a warning of what happens when you're chasing fame and fortune.

Bre Dawn Dre, in particular, didn't keep a 100% in that movie... He showed no faults. I was a huuuuge NWA fan, really my 2 bigger brothers were... Jermaine was Cube, Trupania was Ren, and little me at the time was Eazy... And I remember all those details... Dre didn't wanna be seen in a bad light... And that's what differentiates the 2 movies... NE showed the bad parts of each, where as SOC showed all positive for all the surviving members except Eazy... I'm sure had Eazy been alive, he would've let them know he didn't cry at Dre's success... E was going at Dre's neck. And Cube too.

After watching this series, you realize that Ricky Bell was probably in a much much worse place than Bobby Brown. For all Bobby's wildness and antics with Whitney Houston, he still was "successful". He was still on tour, he was still making money, he still had income, he still had his fame. His issues with drugs and such were just more public due to him being with Whitney Houston. Ricky's issues played out mainly in private, but he was in a much much worse place because he didn't have what Bobby had. He didn't have fame, he had no money, etc... His life was in a steady decline, and he turned to drugs, and from what it seems a lot harder than Bobby did.

Trust and believe he was on drugs wayyyy before that. The music industry is hard and drugs are easily accessible. A lot of them are so restless they turn to drugs just to keep going. It could start off with over the counter sleeping pills to hardcore prescription drugs. Drugs has been the narrative of so many musicians, white, black, oriental.

Free Play Mode ... But Bobby mainly still had access to money and a certain lifestyle because he was married to Whitney, and he only stayed in the limelight because he stayed in trouble with the law, which is great for the media. Plus, MADD TV kept his and Whitney's drug issues a focal point for many of their funny skits. That kept them somewhat relevant as well because it kept people's attention on them--even if it was negative attention. Bobby's only smash album was "DBC." That was released in '88. If he hadn't have married Whitney, he would have fell low on funds and off the mainstream playlist in the mid-90s just like all the rest.

The brotherhood in this group is so deep, powerful, and beautiful. They were more than just a singing group. They are a family. It really touched me when Ricky said that as they were filming they worked through unresolved issues because they didn't know the other side. I'm so glad they made this production and that it brought healing to them and the fans.

3:26 So essentially the fight happened because Bobby was doing something to cover for one of them that didn't show up, then when they finally got there they weren't told that Bobby was still out there because he was covering for him. So he went and interrupted Bobby's set, assuming he was just being selfish. Understandable why a fight could stem from that. It was actually Bobby doing something that wasn't "the selfish Bobby being Bobby" stuff they always assumed or pinned on him, and because Ricky and Mike didn't tell Ronnie that they told Bobby to keep going cause he wasn't there, he assumed it was 'just one of those times' and that caused Bobby to get pissed. I think what it all comes down to, in a lot of these situations is lack of communication. You always find, in a lot of these situations, they could have all been handled with 'a conversation'. Just sitting down and talking. But the long and short of it is. Ronnie was late, so Bobby was told to keep going. When Ronnie arrived, Mike and Ricky didn't tell Ronnie that the reason Bobby was still out there was because he was late. So therefore Ronnie assumed it was just "Bobby being Bobby" and went and interrupted the set. Which is what caused the fight. So in THIS instance, Bobby wasn't in the wrong, but because of his 'history' he was treated as such. But ultimately, it could have been defused super fast had Mike and Ricky told Ronnie that Bobby was out there covering for time cause he was late, then there likely wouldn't have been a fight.

Fantastic movie. But Bobby's bitterness of not being lead haunted that group. He was an A' hole. In the end Bobby was actually the most talented. He was the 1st and best singer dancer and rapper in one. He highlighted the New Jack Swing and a new dance style that brought an end to the Michael Jackson Moonwalk breakdance era. He had the Gumby his own signature hairstyle that influenced black fashion. He was the 1st bad boy balladier. Which gave rise to Usher and Chris Brown.

Bobby Brown did actually perform with New Edition on the Heartbreak Tour. Bobby also performed with them during the Blue Moon/King of Stage days as well. The movie makes it seem like Bobby going on tour with them was a surprise, but that was Busby plan the entire time. The biggest issue in 85 was the sound of their music. Bobby Brown hates that bubble gum stuff & he hated that Ralph was assigned all the leads. Bobby Brown didnt want out of the group, he just wanted more influence of the group, but the white management wanted New Edition to be pop stars. You will see Ralph & Bobby talk about this in the Bobby Brown Story.

Raquel C. Gary Eh, they weren’t all that, decent, but could’ve been better. I wasn’t as reeled in as I were with this biopic, and many others.

I understand what Johnny is saying, but before New Edition a lot of people didn't know Johnny Gill with his amazing songs that were out. He was an artist that pre-NE, he could not stay or move up on the charts. New Edition gave him legs to grow in this business. He owes a lot to New Edition. It might be too that although Johnny had an amazingly powerful voice, there were so many male artists out there who were magnificently talented and had showmanship. Having no showmanship is probably what prevented him from breaking out as a single artist before joining New Edition. I know this because as a Washingtonian and Johnny going through my jr high and high school, we were able to watch his career before the world found out who he was, and that wasn't until he joined New Edition. But Johnny had been singing for years and even with Stacy Lattisaw, her career took off when his didn't. So he owes a lot to New Edition.

It works both ways! The reason why Johnny probably didn't "blow up" pre-NE was because he was kid who sounded like a grown man, so they didn't really know how to market him! I agree that NE helped Johnny, but it went both ways! Everybody in NE admits that it was Johnny who gave them that mature, adult sound! Ralph summed it up perfectly on "Unsung" when he said NE went from a "bubble-gum" group to a real R&B group when Johnny joined!

+Juicy Jay. You're right, that relationship went both ways. I was a huge Johnny fan pre-NE, especially because we came from the same neighborhood. But you got to remember, most of the acts during that time were Johnny's age. Smokey and Motown acts, in fact, all of them were kids. But the key to success back then you had to have stage presence and be able to put on a good show. That was the only thing that got you on the road and into concerts. See there were so many men during that time that had that Johnny voice. Either way you fell back then you would hit a powerful singer. One of the greatest singers during that time was Peabo Bryson. I went to his concert and he blew the stage down. But he had no showmanship and people literally were getting up and walking out, until he started moving around on that stage. And that was Johnny's problem. He had radio presence, and if I'm not mistaken it was local radio. And I bought everything he had out during that time, which wasn't much. But I think it's safe to say that whether he joined NE or not, as soon as NE went over to Jimmy Jam and company they would have made it anyway. I think that Johnny gave them, like that mature sound. But am I safe to say that when it comes to voices that Ralph will always be the voice of NE?

I'm on the fence honestly! I agree that NE probably gave Johnny the stage presence that he needed, but at the same time NE was at crossroads as well! New Kids on the Block had came on scene and took most of, if not all of the "bubblegum" crowd that NE once had(I think Mike Biv mentioned it in the Behind the Music special), Bobby was gone and having modest success with his first album, and Ralph was, at least contemplating leaving as well! They said a big reason why Mike approached Johnny to join the group in the first place was because they thought Ralph was leaving and they wanted him to take Ralph's place! I do agree that Ralph was and is the voice NE, but I also believe Johnny was and is the heart and soul, while Bobby was and is probably the face of NE!
