    Johnny joining NE and Bobby being voted out worked out well because Johnny _gave_ and _brought_ them the maturing sound. Bobby had _lived_ and did it all so when he got voted out it and while _King of Stage_ might've been unsuccessful, _Don't Be Cruel_ made him into an R&B monster and bigger than the group. It all balanced everything out. And we would've never got those five great classic and iconic albums from each member, that only gave NE more life and room to breathe.

    To be so YOUNG at the time, Michael Bivins had INCREDIBLE foresight and he knew how to make business moves to keep that group together. While egos were flying, Bivins was grounded. It may not have been cool for him not to tell Ralph he was bringing in Johnny, but I RESPECT a power move that keeps things grounded when everyone is being emotional. Michael Bivins saved that group! It's no wonder to me that BBD is still hot!

  • @ExtravertmE

    @ExtravertmE

    3 жыл бұрын

    Bivins was one of the main egos flyin. It was primarily his behavior that alienated Ralph from the group, and then he has the temerity to be offended when he and his mom gets ignored. Mike fully intended to push Ralph out of the group with zero respect or gratitude for where Ralph had led them. Ralph never wanted a solo career; he only pulled that because of how hostile BBD were to him, even after all the sacrifices he made for them. Bivins was selfish and disrespectful, and likely jealous. He looked out for himself, but from a broader picture there's nothing Noble about how he handled things.

    I hate how Jump & Shoot Production were portrait. There was no Gary Evans. It was Martin Machat, Steven Machat, Bill Dern & Rick Smith. They were the managers that made Bobby leave, they were the managers that wanted to market New Edition to white american teens, they were the managers forcing that Blue Moon album on us. It no wonder Bobby rebelled. Look at how they made them dress. Look at the All for Love cover. Bobby is the only one being a hood kid on that cover. Steven Machat actually managed Bobby after leaving. He is the one who put out that Ralph singing Every Little Step rumor.

Notice that not once did Bobby deny that the portrayal of him was accurate...getting rid of Bobby and bringing in Johnny was the best thing that could have happened for the group. I remember seeing them in concert at Madison Square Garden in the '80s with Al B Sure and Bobby. Bobby performed solo and with the group. And he showed out as usual. Nothing but love for these young men.

    David Ruffin and Bobby Brown are not the same. Why do people keep saying that? Ruffin was a lead singer. Bobby wasnt. Ruffin wanted the Temps to change their name to David and the Temps, Bobby just wanted him time on stage and more parts on songs. Bobby wasnt trying to be the main lead, he just wanted more parts to shine. Him being dropped from the group was a lot of pressure, because he didnt want to leave. David wanted out of the Temps but on his own terms. Otis and them beat him to the punch. Bobby and David's stories are not even similar. Bobby started New Edition. David was a replacement in the Temps.

    Yep David Ruffin & Bobby Brown's stories are nothing a like. You are right David Ruffin was not an original member he replace that Alvin guy. Bobby made New Edition with Ricky & Mike. Bobby was supposed to be lead but Maurice Starr made Ralph the lead, Jump & Shoot continued that format.

    David was the lead though. He did must of the hits. Ralph was the lead of New Edition. Bobby didn't rebel against the group, he rebelled against the management. David wanted a complete name change. Nothing alike. y'all gotta think deeper.

    @@FlyiDCG actually, David and Bobby ultimately rebelled against the group. Both started out against management and being controlled in the creativity. Then, both started rebelling against the group. Y not showing up and acting crazy. If everyone in a group is one board to keep doing what management wants and you're the one person that's against it, then you are rebelling against the group by acting out on stage and other places. My take on Bobby and the group dynamic is much different than David and the group dynamic. Management for New Edition wanted Bobby gone, with the members struggling with that. Motown didn't really want David out of The Temps, but the group did because he was messing with their money. Look at both when the years pass. The guys from New Edition were enablers of Bobby's behavior. Anytime New Edition did something, they always gave Bobby a special spot to do his thing apart from the group. If you looked at The Temps, when David was gone, he was gone. They reluctantly had that reunion tour, David acted up again, and never sang with the Original Temps again. The group just wasn't having it.

    @@Keepdapocket David and Bobby are not the same at all. This creativity thing you speak of doesn't apply to the Temps, as David wasn't trying to make different music, he just wanted his name featured as the star of the group similar to Diana Ross. David never had a beef with Shelly, he had beef with Otis. Bobby on the other hand didnt like what Jump & Shoot production (Bill Dern) was forcing New Edition to sing and how to dress. Bobby didn't want to leave NE, he just wanted more parts because Ralph did most of the leads. David was a lead singer, Bobby was not.

When you have a group of people, esp'ly as young, you're going to have a difference of opinion - no matter what. Ya'll went through those ups and downs and still came together and was able to capture many hearts of the people cause that's what you wanted to do. Nods to the cast cause they did the work baby! They acted and sang their hearts and was goooood at it, OMG!!

I bet a movie about those 4 Divas would give those "Housewives" franchise a run for their money. I bet reality tv can't hold a candle up to the the real reality of the 4 Funky Divas:)

    You can see they still have issues. Hope the movie will help them heal. It's funny because you can see each of their perspectives (whether right or wrong). Ralph seems like he didn't/doesn't think he was/is appreciated and Mike not wanting to rely on Ralph in case he left the group and they incident with his mother. You can still see their wounds and it's so sad. Bobby's attitude doesn't seem to appreciate that he was wrong. I want to say you are brothers work it out especially after all these years.
