I'm a guitar player, now retired, out of Nashville. I worked with Eddie Rabbitt for 16 years and we were on this show at Clemson with Bob Hope. He came up and did "I Love A Rainy Night" with us and it's one of the greatest experiences I ever had working the road. Bob Hope!

....being a child of the '50's, I really miss BOB HOPE.... In 1995 I was with friends in Hawaii and there was the 50th Anniversary of VJ Day....there was a HUGE celebration with a parade with BOB HOPE as the Grand Marshall....I was lucky enough to not only see BOB and DELORES, but to stand right beside his 1945 convertible and talk to both of them....they were gracious and lovely people....truly, a huge highlight in my life....

A comedy machine--constructed at birth to entertain for about 90 years.

This is from 1978, not 1981. Bob Hope Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the World Series aired in October of 1978. He also mentions John Wayne filming TV commercials. John Wayne died in 1979 so he couldn't have been filming commercials in 1981.

Comedy as long as he was in it, takes a tough, street-smart guy. Just like Chaplin, he was one of the all-time legends. In Bob’s case he did his bit for the country too, entertaining servicemen and loads of charity benefits. Sure, he was a hard businessman too but in the U.S. you don’t stay rich unless you are. His intense focus on top material was the key, comedy is a serious business in the end.

On material, jokes...he says, "a blend of all ages, a mixture," Good advice I think in light of today's too often crude, cruel, shocking offerings sold to the public as 'comedy.'

Bob hope. There is nothing new you can say. He is part of my life's laughter. also Yana. Nobody remembers Yana now. She was like a - well, cyrol cole, very good looking, but I think got eat up and cast to one side as so many beautiful girls do in show biz. God bless their walk back from alcoholism.

I wouldn't say evil, but there are a lot of substantiated facts and stories, in print, interviews, and elsewhere that pretty much destroy Hope's clean image. So don't go all putting a halo on his head, or ANYone's. We're all human. Show biz is show. Like Sinatra: could be an awful, awful guy (did a lot of good, yes) but like most artists, their art is what made them special. Being human...well, like I said: we're all human. Good luck

Bob at his creative peak (1940s to the early 1960s) was the greatest monologist in the country. Comic acting was superb and ad lib ability amazing. But by the time of this interview (early 1980s), his television specials were dreadful, although he still could be charming as an interview subject (seen here). I wish that he (as he hinted) moved into directing, which he would have been great at during this period, instead of mechanically reading cue cards on those awful specials.
