FILMED 4-4-1975 at UCLA's PAULEY PAVILLION. A sold out paying crowd too. Also on the show were LES BROWN and his band -AMERICA-FLIP WILSON-ARETHA FRANKLIN. I was one of the basketball players that carried Mr. HOPE off-stage, what fun.

Is it me, or does there seem to be a sad loneliness in this world now that the Duke is gone. The likes of which we shall never see again. I never knew the man personally, but there was something about him, some thing that is long gone now, and not in my life time will there ever, ever be another like the late great John Wayne. God rest you in peace John. Some day i'd like to shake your hand in person. For the joy you brought to the world, through your films. RIP Mr Wayne.

I agree with you 100%. But you see it was more then just watching John's films, it was almost like you were there in person, that's the feeling i get when i watch John Wayne, he was such a gentle man, a kind man, and was never too proud to share a joke and just be him self. I can tell you, if there were more kind men like John Wayne in the world today, this world we live in would be a much better place.

My Grandfather had Bob Hope and John Wayne as neighbors, and Gramps coached a little league team that was sponsored by John Wayne. Mr. Wayne didn't just write a check, he would sometimes show up at the games to cheer the kids on! It was a different era, the era that brought us other heroes like Ronald Reagan. How sad that in America today we have so few celebs and fewer politicians who stand up for America.

Wayne and Hope were both good sports about their comedy, and both ribbed themselves as much as they ribbed their targets. Wayne's appearance at Harvard to accept his "Brass Balls " award is classic. He answered their insulting questions with funny responses, they applauded him roundly, and Wayne talked for a week about the good time he had.

I don't think the young people know who Stewart was. They barely know Hope. But I will bet they saw John Wayne and "dog." The most special thing I ever have done was put my two brothers on my shoulers at the same time so that they could see and listen to Bob Hope.. I was 12, it was 1969. I couldn't see him, and I truly felt that my shoulders were breaking, but it was important to me that at least my brothers would get to see his entire show. There were 10s of thousands of ppl there who for the most part couldnt see the show unless they had $10 to sit up high. We got in free to stand on the race track because we were 12 or under. Bob Hope!

You're not alone. I tried and tried to find a Duke Wayne calendar last December, but they were sold out eveywhere!!! It's not just people in the US that love Duke, he has "fans" all around the world. No other movie star who has been dead for over 30 years has the "fans" that Duke has, not Clark Gable, who was the "King of Hollywood" or anyone else! Duke stuck a chord with people all over the world, even Khruschev loved his movies that were pirated and dubbed in Russian!
