JOHN WAYNE & DON RICKLES, Unedited (1974)

Комедия

#donrickles #johnwayne #johnwayneinterview
This is a never seen unedited segment from 12-8-1974 with John Wayne as the surprise masked guest. This uncut-version has more dialogue and longer takes between Wayne and Rickles then the previous version, that was uploaded. This was filmed in December of 1974, and aired in 1975.
DON RICKLES (1926 - 2017) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author, known especially for his insult comedy. His film roles included Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) with Clark Gable and Kelly's Heroes (1970) with Clint Eastwood, and beginning in 1976 he enjoyed a two-year run starring in the NBC television sitcom C.P.O. Sharkey. A headline performer at Las Vegas hotel-casinos and peripheral member of the Rat Pack via friendship with Frank Sinatra, Rickles received widespread exposure as a frequent guest on talk and variety shows, including The Dean Martin Show, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Show with David Letterman.
JOHN WAYNE (1907 - 1979) known professionally as John Wayne and nicknamed Duke, was an American actor and filmmaker who became a popular icon through his starring roles in Western films. His career spanned from the silent era of the 1920s, through the Golden Age of Hollywood and eventually American New Wave, appearing in a total of 179 film and television productions. He was among the top box office draws for three decades,[3][4] and appeared with many other important Hollywood stars of his era. (Wikipedia)

Yes, he is big and has a presence, but except for TrueGrit (which even had few moments) I don’t see his acting prowess; not even close to Brando, DiNero, or even Eastwood. Look at his early films, he just reads lines.

@@wayneriley7367 John Wayne is as important as baseball , hotdogs and Chevrolet to coin a phrase. You are correct he was no Brando or Gable but what he was to the vast majority of movie gowers was a larger than life representation of an American - didn't cheat , lie , steal .....etc . A true American hero of his day especially in the eyes of kids . Those others were better actors but he was the bigger star. And Don Rickles kicks comedy ass , the king of the one liner.

Doubt many younger people today even know John Wayne but I'm sure they know Clint Eastwood. There are plenty of new music stars that people bring up and I'm like "nope never heard them". I'm still amazed that Groups like Pink Floyd still sell shirts but, how many of those people wearing them could name more than 2 songs. Its a shame how much is lost over time. Nice to see that the internet at least has some hope to keep them around a bit longer.

I met John months before he died. I was a nurse and he was leaving the pharmacy in my building. He was big, tall, stood up straight and tall and so polite. He was surprised I knew who he was bc I was pretty young. He signed an autograph as I held the heavy bag of medicines. And he got into his car and drove away. I believe 5he year was 1978.

06:34 - Rickles asks 'Wayne', "Is your dog here?" Years before developing the 'John Wayne' persona, young Marion Morrison liked to hang around the fire station at Montrose, California. The firemen liked the kid who always had with him a dog named 'Duke' and that's how he got the nickname which stuck with him for life. I have my grandmother's 1924 Glendale High School annual which is signed 'Jack Wayne' and 'John Wayne' over the Marion Morrison captions. I was sad when John Wayne had died. I think if anyone could pick the exact time of your death he nailed it perfectly. He didn't get old enough to see him breaking down. It was still easy enough to remember who he really was. I hope that makes a little sense to some people. When I saw what happened with Kirk Douglas and Burt Reynolds that was just very sad. That dragged on for many many years. You never want to see someone pass on. I just think John Wayne nailed his last role in life right on the mark. Even in his very last movie about him dying he was still John Wayne.

John Wayne, like all of us, had his faults and shortcomings but he had a great sense of humor. When MelBrooks approached him about being in Blazing Saddles, he read the script and said it was not for him but he would also be the first in line to buy a ticket because it was the funniest thing he had read. Maureen O’Hara told a great story about John Wayne as well. When she was 18 and considered a potential star by the studio, she was tasked with driving him home from a party because he was too many sheets to the wind. Al of the sudden he tells her to stop at a house. She does, he gets out, knocks on the front door, takes a few steps back and when the owner opens the door, he drops his pants and moons the guy. He runs back to the car and tells her to gun it. She then asks him why he guy was and he said he had no idea, he just wanted to moon someone.
