Have a Viper alarm installed. Go to the wrecking yard and find an E36. Look for a big siren in the engine compartment. Remove and replace your Vipers siren with it. Your Z3 will now sound exactly like it did from factory. It sounds great. I had the factory alarm in mine. All I did was to install the Viper with the OEM siren and I have genuine sound from a 1997 Z3.

Thanks for sharing this. Can you tell me what units you used? Both the keyless entry unit and also the harness that plugged into the stock harness in the car. Thanks!

spazzyone the hacked one was a generic one from eBay. I think it works as long as I close the door. The desired one is the plug and play version (Stella bmw45p) that I bought for $138. Good luck.

You have the same problem I had. I had a aftermarket keyless entry installed, and then it stopped working. I was because the door close microswitch is broke on the driver side. I unhooked it and it started working again. The correct behavior for the fader of the overhead light resumed normal function also.

thank you for your input. Yes, we can learn a lot when we make changes to our cars. It took much longer than expected, but I would not call that wasted time....more like "knowing" my z3.

mine is original to the "1996 bmw z3". I have not done anything to the back yet. Looking to add side skirts as well as back. Will post what I find that is to my liking.
