BMW X5 4.6is Honest Review - Should You Buy A Cheap Performance BMW X5?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In today's video, we'll be taking an in depth look at the BMW 4.6is X5 and whether or not you should purchase one. There are many things about the 4.6is X5 that make it desirable, such as an Alpina inspired V8 engine, and an amazing exhaust note. However, these first generation X5's might not have the best reputation for reliability... and @HooviesGarage clearly demonstrated this with his cheap V8 X5. So, let's give this 4.6is another chance and see whether it's worth it to purchase one of these.

These are going to start appreciating in value very quickly over the next few years. They are starting to get tons of the attention they deserve as many people have started flocking to the "golden era" BMWs.

Great review! And Hoovie isn't really making honest reviews, as much as he's making a scripted reality show. He's just buying terribly neglected BMWs to make videos about how horrible they're, because he knows that this'll cause a reaction from the fans and bigger engagement for his videos.

Thank you! I know what you mean, these SUV's are really special. Truly unique for the time and if you had one back when they were new, you were doing very well for yourself XD. Today, anyone can walk into a BMW dealer and finance an X5, but to have one in the early 2000's was a special experience!

great video, just love the 4.6is,theres just something about it, i know it has high running costs but its worth it, what a desirable vehicle it is, thou it has to have the style 87 wheels as they are the nicest wheels ever made for an x5, i now have the facelift 2006 3.0d le mans version, which is a bit cheaper to run, but not as much fun, great review keep it up.

I bought a 2005 BMW X5 4.4i with 221k miles last year for $2000. Found her sitting on a lot for 2 years. Decided to make her a project car. Unfortunately, she was in rough shape (steering wheel was peeling off and had broken/missing buttons, headliner of the panoramic sunroof was peeled causing extra wind noise, partially nonfunctional dash, passenger side window/lock was not working, fog lights later went out, foggy headlights). The previous owner abused the car and did not do proper maintenance, which resulted in the engine having a misfire. She needed new rotors, hydraulic steering, radiator, and other components. At start-up, there would be a hard shake hard while warming up. The transmission needed service. Dropping the engine and doing proper cleaning inside was also needed. Once I started to realize HOW MUCH work and money would need to be put in, I sold the car at a loss of a couple of thousand after my investments. Nevertheless, I had tons of fun with this car. I loved the way she sat on the road, the seating position, and the sound of the V8. Never got to get an X-Pipe, since that was in my plans. I could only imagine how this X5 would drive if she was kept up properly, and had 80-120k miles. When I did a performance test by Dragy, I ran to what a typical new Nissan Murano would, which is amazing for a car that is 17 years old and was not running properly with misfires. I bet I could break the 15s on the 1/4 mile if all was in proper shape. Ideally, I would have loved to make a 6-speed manual swap. Great emotions and memories from that X5. I attached a POV test drive video for those who are curious to see. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYx1sM-ofLqTfJM.html

Logan mine had a thump into 1 gear when slowing down. They run way too hot for pollution reasons . I bought a 170 deg thermostat off ebay from Europe. Standard they run at 115 deg crazy. Mine now runs at 180deg engine oil runs heaps cooler . No thumping into first gear . You can also put a tray cooler on too. Overall the car runs so much better and less chance of destroying all the plastic and rubber in engine bay. I recommend every one go down this path.

Just pulled my gearbox out. Seems to be the b drum and the A clutch seals. They always break on this car as it’s just too powerful. I also replaced all the control arms and the sway bar links, all the rubbers. Then all the window regulators and door handles. My cluster was replaced at some point. 🥺
