We look at everything, including the 1800cc boxer engine, gears, instruments, handling, suspension, brakes, seating position, ergonomics, saddle bags, screen, wheels/tyres, seat, reverse gear, modes (Rock, Roll & Rain), styling, design and more!
Is it good for taller riders? We find out!

These guys are hands down the best in the motorcycle reviewing business. The bike looks awesome but seems a bit tight for taller folks. Keen on seeing the bagger that’s under development on this bike

@@MrDarcy-OlManWonderful to have reverse on such a heavy bike. Muscling heavy bikes around becomes a bit more challenging when we become more wrinkled.
I have watched this about 20 times. Went out and bought one yesterday because of your review. I’m 6’4” and I’m a little cramped, but have never been more emotional about a bike. Thanks, guys.

Me too! After 46 years of riding, over 22 motorcycles I have never loved a bike more. It is utterly gorgeous. Only addition I have is a Mustang seat for my large derrière and a Wunderlich wind deflector to smooth the air over 120km/hr. A keeper!
You're soooo much better than 99% of other so-called motorcycle "reviewers" out there!

Me too! I 1st saw them when I was 17, circa 1980s, and I thought, damn, that's the perfect design for an engine!! I later learned that all aircraft use the same ... Unless they are radials of course. They are the most simple, powerful, smooth, and reliable engine that can be designed. As far as reciprocating engines go. The only thing potentially better are the rotary engines, ala Mazda, but they are burdened by a lot of engineering problems to overcome various things that cause them to be ineffective at overcoming pollution regulations.
Wowzers what a super review. Well i took delivery of my first edition model before Christmas and actually rode it for the first time yesterday....we ran out of milk so it was an essential journey😜. I have to say i agree with everything you say gentleman, my bike makes me feel so good like no other I’ve ever owned. Ol man dare i say this bike has your name written all over it....you definitely would enjoy owning the R18. Thanks for a great video and kind regards.

Nice review! After many years of owning GSAs for 10 years or so, I decided to do something different, called my dealer, and traded my 2019 GSA R1250 for the R18 Classic. Drove it back home 60 miles from NYC to the countryside in cold driving rain (didn't check the weather lol) but with a smile on my face. I'm going to change the seats for an aftermarket thicker one to have a slightly higher riding position and a backrest for my wife.

I get that some people prefer mids. That said, my knees are starting to stiffen up and ache just looking at it. It's the fact that the engine is physically in the way...it's blocking you in. Maybe it's some variant of OCD or something at work in my brain, but I couldn't get past having the cylinders in my way like that. "Claustrophobic" probably isn't the right word, but it's something like that.

Nicely done. I, also, test rode one of the early models late last summer. I was thoroughly impressed with the power delivery, the substantial feel, and the solid front end. My wife and I own a 1964 R60/2. We have owned other Boxer bikes, too. The styling on this R18 is spot on. Styling cues from several different classic Boxers. I, currently, own and ride a Road King as well as a King Pin. This R18 would be a bike that I would consider owning if/when it becomes time for me to downsize to just one large cruiser. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts when comparing this to the Heritage.

Looks great, BMW makes great bikes. I settled for a H-D Sports Glide when turning fifty, which I would assume is the equivalent to this BMW model . It’s a great concept and comfortable as well! But a quick check of the prices reveals that the BMW is almost 10000€ more expensive than the already expensive H-D Sport Glide and that’s a a comfort option to consider if you’re in for a more relaxing ride!

My heart says Harley as I’m a member of the Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain but whilst the Heritage Classic is great, the provision of Reverse Gear on the BMW really is a game-changer for anyone who has struggled to back-up a big & heavy bike! Baker Transmissions do make a reverse-gear for Harley’s but it’s a large additional cost. HD really have needed a reverse on their big bikes for years. I think BMW have given HD a wake up call! I also like the modes but it’s a pain that there’s no fuel gauge. I always carry a spare gallon of fuel, & on the very customisable HD’s fitting a container is no problem. On paper the BMW is a likely winner but it’s not a HD! Where HD score is their riders are one huge Worldwide group all on bikes with a similar familiar look & sound. Go anywhere on a HD & riders have something in common & stories to tell. This big boxer BMW has to carve a niche for itself as it’s only similar riding buddies will be on old vintage airhead BMW’s. I used to own an old air-cooled BMW R100S, & at a BMW rally just didn’t fit in with a field full of GS off-road riders! Pre-covid, from 1989, I’ve attended Daytona Bike Week each March, flying over for 2-weeks riding a big-twin HD in the Florida Sun with well over 100,000 other riders on similar machines. What a wonderful time we’ve had. On occasion I’ve spent time with BMW riders up at the Volusia County Campsite but they are a mere handful compared to the HD presence. I see the R18 over in the US as a point of interest but HD will remain dominant. On a cross State ride sitting feet forwards is very comfortable & I’ll explore adding a reverse to my next HD.

Indeed I did - Not disappointed at all in fact my Rebel 1100 is now for sale. about 1000k's on it now. I am seeing why big cruisers are so popular, it is bit of a lump at slow work and lane splitting might be a lot less common than on the Honda. But it is way more tactile than the Honda and looks like a bit of rolling art, and certainly not sterile.
