    The cornering speeds weren't bad, but they weren't great either. This is very typical of an intermediate-level driver in a Lotus, it takes more effort to get the most out of it. A driver who can get 80% out of an M2 will probably only manage 60% in an Exige. Given more time to trust the Lotus, most cannot comprehend how late you can brake and how much speed you can carry through corners. If this was a racing series, the Exige would be a category or two above the GT4 and M2CS. Knowing this, I don't blame the driver, it is simply a harder car to drive fast and journalist have little time to learn this. It's like jumping into a single-seater racing car from a sports car, most will lap faster in the sports car because you are unaccustomed to the levels of braking, acceleration and cornering speed. This is the best I can describe it. The driver is more important in a car like the Exige than the others. Don't be fooled, the Exige is on another planet!

    how right you are Nevertheless, I would also want to classify the Porsche in the exiga V6 category. The Exige is by no means worlds better than the Porsche, but with several laps the Lotus would stand in front of the Porsche in one expert hand. What is often neglected when comparing Elise's and Exige's: the cars barely have the specified power, mostly far below!

    Lotus is harder to drive super fast, hence harder to extract a fast time. Its easier to jump in the other two cars with their sophisticated nanny everything controls plus most journalists are not as used to dealing with analogue cars these days. A race driver would get the best out of an Exige 410. These Exiges are the last of their kind.

    What's with the seating position, the fact the GT4 and M2 are DCTs and the guy can't even heel toe? Makes laptimes pretty irrelevant.

    Lotus ist einfach noch ein richtig puristisches Auto. Gibt für mich kein anderes Auto das mir soviel Emotionen gibt, das ist noch Autofahren!

    War auch nicht besonders gut gefahren muss man sagen. Ich kann mir vorstellen dass der Lotus es belohnt wenn man sauber fährt.

    Leute, kommt mal runter! Die Jungs von SportAuto können definitiv sehr gut fahren. Aber ich glaube auch, dass in der Exige noch deutlich mehr Potenzial ist. In einen Lotus, ohne die ganzen elektronischen Helfer der anderen, steigt man mal nicht eben ein und zaubert eine Fabelzeit hin. Das muss man sich etwas länger mit dem Auto erarbeiten. Dennoch drei tolle Autos, jedes für sich!

    Poor drive in the Exige as several have said - short shift, no rev matching, would have been far closer with a committed drive familiar with the car. Cup 430 at Anglesey wasn’t pushed to limit either...

    I have to agree about the driving of the 410 in this test. But the laptime at Anglesey with the 430 Cup is really really good. The inboard lap shown in the video isn't the real hotlap. Evo released the telemetry of the Anglesey best lap of the Lotus. And there isn't a lot of room for improvement. When you compare the Lotus time to other cars at Anglesey, the Lotus is actually pretty fast. There is a really good Italian driver that did a 1,56.xx on Imola, wich is faster than a 458 Italia driven by a pro...

    Research "Exige 430 Imola" on youtube for the Italian fast lap. In Google, search "Exige Anglesey telemetry". It's the first link to The Lotus Forum. Red curve is the Lotus 430. You can see that the Lotus acceleration is not so far the other most powerfull cars, but the driver loose a lot of time switching from 3rd gear to 4th gear resulting in a lesser top speed than it should. In good hands, Lotus cars are very potent, no doubt about this despit what most of the automotive press test seems to show...

    I saw the Imola lap of the 430 many times and I honestly suspect it is fake accelerated. The sound is not natural and especially when it enters the pit the view also does not seems natural. Perhaps I am wrong..

    It's been a while since I sat in a 410 Sport, but wouldn't the "SPORT" text light up in the speedometer if you're in the correct mode for track use? Doesn't the car have a lower rev-limit and muted throttle response in regular mode?

    It is true, you do not see the sport or race light on, if it is in normal mode it would be limiting the RPM to 6500 instead of 7000

    Sorry, aber Porsche und BMW teils „überfahren“... beim M2 habe ich sogar das Gefühl der Fahrer hat auf der Gegengeraden einmal marginal gelupft !?!?!? Der Lotus hingegen wurde nicht „richtig am Limit“ bewegt. Wen habt ihr da ran gelassen? Solltet ihr Tester mit entsprechendem Grundspeed brauchen ... ich mach’s 😄😄😄

    Why do all/most of the motorsport-journalist believe, that they are good race or F1 drivers? Reasons: The seat is too far backwards, you can see that during the drive he slip forward to a "better" driving position. Steering-wise we call this "chopping", comes from karting, however this has no place here. To do so, especially before cornering destable the car and makes it nervous. During Rallys this is desirable, on a racetrack it's simply slowing you down, because you losing speed in drifts. Unfortunately, the driver doesn't have a lot of feeling in his right foot, you can hear that on the engine, instead of slowly stepping on the gas, he always hits it hard and leaves the rest to the driver assistance system. In none of the cars, you can't switch off the driver assistance completely, for Porsche (as an example) PSM Off mode and PSM Sport mode, however, during "heavy" braking within the ABS control range, this activates the full stabilizing support of the PSM again - until the brake is released. However the same driver did the test for all cars, so it should be comparable? No, because with the Lotus he drove slower: Come on guys, before a corner during breaking you are shifting EACH gear back? Seriously?

    how can you tell it is fair? 2 automatic car vs manual car ( bad driven because exige its a lot more difficult to drive )

    The Lotus lap was completely unfair. 2 autos vs manual, not in race mode, short shifting, no heel and toe, driver being blinded by the sunset. Could've also used a Cup 430

    Alle drei müssen H Schaltung haben um ein faires Resultat zu haben. Lotus ist das Wahre "Gänse haut Auto"

    Take a serious driver to do this. Wrong driving position, lock wheels on every braking point, drift on every accelleration...thats not how you doin fast lap

    Hätte der Fahrer die selben Ambitionen gehabt wie bei den zwei andern, wäre der Test ganz anderst ausgegangen 😂 Beim Lotus sah es aus, wie wenn ich mit meiner Frau Sonntags zum Eis essen fahre…. Kommt schon 🙈

    Anyone who has ever driven a manual on track knows this dude is not rev matching and is slowing the car purely with brakes then dumping the clutch unsettling the car just before the power is put down on corner exit

    Die meisten Tester Fahren auch nur noch Automatik oder Halbautomatik da wird es schwierig für Sie beim manuellen Schalten :-D

    Wer selbst eine aktuelle Exige fährt sieht hier sofort,das der Wagen überhaupt nicht vernünftig bewegt wird. Es ähnelt einer Probefahrt eines Neukunden. Es kommen wirklich Gedanken auf, ob so etwas extra gemacht wird, ich kann es mir nicht erklären was diese Fahrt mit einem offiziellen Bewertungstest zu tun haben soll. Die Leute werden nur eins "geblendet". Das Potenzial einer 380er schon beeindruckend und auch der Gewichtsvorteil einer 410er gegenüber den beiden Gegnern ist ein weit überlegener Aspekt,der mit Automatik in keinster Weise bei einem Rundrennen, außer durch ein viel höheres Leistungsgewicht oder noch mehr Potential raus geholt werden kann. Das ist nicht nur meine Meinung bzgl. des verkorksten Tests hier,es ist einfach Fakt!

    Compare the Sachs curve line between the GT4 and the Exige. He lost probably 2 secs there with Exige with no entrance problems ... and after that it felt like half hearted drive ...can't help feeling it was deliberate? The entrance to Sachs was below par. I believe the GT4 is faster but not that much in the GP Hocke. Have to say, this harmed the credibility of SportAuto. Who was the driver? Gebhardt? I dont think so but this one did no blips too. Amazing for someone who should be a pro.

    Hallo Sport Auto Team, mit Interesse habe ich als Abonnent den Test bereits in ihrem Heft gelesen. Dabei frage ich mich, warum die PCCB vom GT4 so schlecht abgeschnitten hat? Normal brilliert Porsche doch auf aufgrund der Bremsen (Serien- wie Optionalbremse) immer bei Tracktests. Was genau war in diesem Fall das schlechte Abschneiden? Die Frage stelle ich mir insbesondere als 718 GT4 Fahrer mit Serienstahlbremse. Danke für die Antwort

    Mich würde mal interessieren, wie viele Runden fahrt ihr eigentlich immer so durchschnittlich mit den Autos? 1 Runde und diese zahlt dann oder 10 Runden und die beste zählt? Bin nur verwundert, weil der GT4 mit Schaltgetriebe fast ne Sekunde schneller war im Supertest vor 5-6 Monaten 🤔

    Tests of this type are made with cars which are often optimized or on the contrary badly adjusted ... and this kind of tests are often sponsored ... the result is in favor of whoever pays! For the test of the LOtus, we can see that the driver does not use the Lotus properly, this car impresses a lot at the beginning, you have to practice it a minimum of time to start using it correctly, it is a lot more demanding !!

    Shifting on the lotus was too early... the driver has no clue or did this intentionally . I cannot say he did a good job with the other cars neither. LOL The Lotus is way superior..power to weight ratio is completely different then the bmw and porsche.

    Missed the first corner in the Lotus, late on the gas in nearly every corner...maybe do some more driving with the Lotus before setting the time. It's different than these Mickey Mouse cars...

    Manual Transmission, factor that in and the Lotus was the fastest on this track. (Shave 0.3-0.4 for every acceleration 20-80mph around the circuit)

    @@aowen1079 The bimmer is more practical: place for 4 people inside + a decent trunk.. can't have the weight of the GT4 due to the different concept.

    @@aowen1079 yes, i think the same specially for a CS version. It would be intersting to see 3 hot laps one after the other! And i bet in the end Lotus light weight would play a HUGE difference in time, because of brakes fading early on heavier car. I think Lotus manage a pretty decent time for a manual against DualClutch contenders.

    @@jpgmatrixgmail with CC brakes I don't see a problem for the brakes, but for the tyres becoming too hot.. especially for the CS.. but, again this car has somehow a dual purpose, being more practical for the street use.

    Geniales Trio, das die aktuell 3 besten zahlbaren Tracktools vergleicht. Für mich gibt es aber nur 1 Auto das in Frage kommt, die Exige. Das einzige Auto, das noch richtig Spass macht, keine unnötige Elektronik hat und von Hand geschaltet wird. Zudem auch im Verschleiss einiges günstiger als die beiden überfressenen, mit Komfort vollgestopften Konkurrenten. Ein wirkliches Männerauto (auch wenn einige Damen damit auch ihre Freude haben)! Nur schade ist die Hotlap mit der Exige alles andere als optimal, da liegen locker 2 Sekunden drin, mit etwas Setupoptimierung auch mehr. Man sieht aber auch daran, dass es Sinn macht mit weniger zufrieden zu sein, so kann man am Feingefühl beim Fahren arbeiten und muss nicht alles der Elektronik überlassen.

    That makes it only fast for a bad driver. A proper racing driver would be the fastest in the Exige without electronics to help you.

    Die Exige wurde bewusst langsam gefahren! Wäre ja auch unüblich wenn ein Englischer underdog die Deutschen Premium Marken in Grund und Boden fährt.

    Schade, dass nicht alle Fahrzeuge mit Schaltgetriebe ausgewählt wurden. Beeindruckend aber, dass der BMW ,im Vergleich zu den Mittelmotorsportwagen, mithalten kann! Ähnliches Preissegment auch noch - sehr schwierige Entscheidung. Porsche ist Porsche - will alles gleichzeitig am besten können, BMW eher klassisch und der Lotus beinahe ein Rennwagen. Sehr schöner Vergleich. Vielen Dank für das wortlose Video.

    I’m surprised you obtained your fastest time in the GT4, with that much oversteer coming out of the slow turns… The M2 sounded awful inside - did you have the microphone in the trunk or something? Lastly, I can’t believe how slow the lotus was in comparison, considering it should weigh a lot less than the other two and be set up for this purpose specifically.

    Those Exige V6 always somewhat post underwhelming laptimes....The 430 CUP for example with even less weight and more power post relatively slow times for its specs...

    You mean during the Exige lap? I have to agree, he was short-shifting constantly and accelerated from painfully low REVs out of Turn 2, 11 and 12....

    @@massimilianozeni1848 you clearly haven't drive a 410 nor a 430 cup. The traction out of the curve is mind blowing even in 2nd gear at low speed. A LSD is not mandatory.

    @@StartYourEngine it is all relative. It is mind blowing for sure but other cars are now better. And they do that in absolute comfort. I love how the 380 drives but I don't need to over defend Lotus as I love sport cars in general, no matter the brand, and the lotus has the problem I mentioned

    In view of the engine output of the GT4 an M2 CS, a fair comparison would have been with the Exige Cup 430 (has 436 hp) and not the Sport 410! Then it would have been a totally different ball game with more similar power and the fact that the Cup 430 has a slip differential like the GT4 and M2 CS. But SportAuto being a German magazine, the German models had to be in front of the "for the drivers" Lotus, so...

    The 410 and 430 Cup don't have a mechanical LSD. The 430 cup just have a better traction control while sliding. But not really an advantage for a hotlap when everything should be OFF. They are basically the same cars. The driver take it easy with the 410. The laptime should have been faster, and could have been faster...

    Sort of. In all honesty the balance stock is setup to understeer slightly. If you look at the lap, he's really hauling ass through a couple corners, which means the front gives up and then transitions into oversteer. My Cayman handles the same way. It means you're pushing the edge, which also means you're going to set a fast lap. 4 wheel slip angles mean you're hustling.

    @@tankergraffcy Both of those events definitely were mistakes by the driver, if you will. But you'd be surprised. In karting a lot of times a slight oversteer in one corner was faster then no slip angle and a cleaner steering input.

    why does the guy select 2 gears every time on a simple gear change .. that results in a technical longer interruption of power transfer to the wheels on the Lotus. So was it to tell people the Toyota gearbox is bad ??

    Dieser Test ist für die Katz. FAZIT: Wer ein emotionales Zweitauto will, mit dem man richtig Spaß haben kann und was man noch richtig fahren muss, sollte auf jeden Fall Lotus kaufen. Geringer Wertverlust, niedrige „Betriebskosten“, top Track Performance (wie das Auto hier gefahren wurde ist nicht professionell...), super Sound. Habe eine Exige 350 Sport, macht einfach nur Freude :)

    Dem kann ich nur beipflichten. Fahre selbst eine 350er und kann den Test kaum ernst nehmen. Der Lotus wurde viel zu defensiv gefahren, eine Exige ist extrem schnell(speziell die 410er), wenn man sich an ihre Grenzen traut. Ein durch die Kurven tragen hilft hier nicht bei guten Zeiten.

    Kann ich nur zustimmen! Ich fahre eine Exige Cup 430 und dies wäre das richtige Modell in diesem Vergleich, sowohl was Motorleistung angeht als auch Ausstattung wie Sperrdifferenzial, der beim 410 fehlt aber beim GT4 und M2 CS dabei ist...

    Bin früher nur Porsche gefahren bis zu dem Tag als ich eine Exige auf der Rennstrecke testen durfte. Der Porsche wurde sofort verkauft :-)

    Die exige ist hier ganz klar das schnellste auto, aber die zeit kommt leider durch den fahrer zustande der von Hacke spitze scheinbar noch nie etwas gehört hat...da muss man sich auch nicht wundern dass die handschalter so langsam aussterben!

    Leute im Lotus Cup werden 1,55 bis 1,56 Zeiten gefahren. Dann war es nicht ganz so schlecht. Stimme aber mit euch über ein das bei Porsche ein paar Zehntel mehr drinnen gewesen wären. Aber auch Formel 1 Fahrer haben bis zu 3 Zehntel Unterschiede drinnen. Reifentemp,Lufttemp,Asphalttemp,Reifen u.s.w Fahre auch Lotus und finde die Fahrzeuge super wie sie sind. Ist doch nur ein Test.

    1. braucht ist der Lotus erst mit 10-15 Runden schnell... Der Fahrer hat es schwieriger sich hier dran zu gewöhnen, 2. hat er meistens nicht im Ansatz die verkaufte Leistung zur verfügung. Mit ein wenig "Exige" Erfahrung am Steuer, Fahrwerk Set Up und Nennleistung würde er den Porsche auch unterbieten. Was Porsche trotz des Mehrgewichtes da auf die Räder gestellt hat sucht trotzdem seinesgleichen... Ganz locker alltagsfähig und auf Abruf Performancebereit!

    werden die Lotus-Cup Läufe im Winter gefahren ? .. sieht aus als liegt da Schnee an der Boxenmauer - oder ist das bloß die schlechte Bildqualität ?? .. 1.57 bei Kälte wäre ja gut wenn 1.55 - 1.56 im warmen Sommer üblich sind, mit entsprechender Reifentemp.

    Naja...solche Tests.... 1.wenn schon, dann Alle mit Schalter,da ja Alle auch so verfügbar sind. Ihr habt die historische Chance nicht genützt um die letzten Schalter zu vergleichen . 2.Ich mag Alle 3 ,weil sie gut sind, noch irgendwie bezahlbar und für den Fahrspass gemacht sind. 3.Es wäre fair gewesen ein Fahrer zu nehmen der auch am limit fahren kann. 4.Der Lotus ist der Hardcore Sportwagen und ist auch nicht so einfach zu verstehen, deshalb müsste der Fahrer, mit solche Fahrzeuge ein bisschen Training hinter sich haben, um das Potenzial auszuschöpfen. Wenn die Fahzeuge am Limit gefahren wären hätte auf dieser Strecke der Lotus sicher die beste Zeit gefahren.....leider gibt es immer weniger Fahrer die mit echte Sportwägen zurecht kommen 😢.

    Deine Aussage unterstütze ich zu 10000 % mit den richtigen Fahrer hätte der Lotus gewonnen leider ist es nur mal so das viele nur noch weichgekochte Autos fahren wollen mit Automatik und keiner mehr Lust hat richtig Auto zu fahren !!!!!

    Problem was he kept braking.... could have carried at least 10kph more through that corner. Very different style of driving required

    @@eddy_6502 I’m prone to thinking mechanical difference between manual and dual clutch has minimal impact to lap times in this case. But the Lotus suffered from slower acceleration out of turns, driving technique related or not.

    @@cheungarrie123 with gearbox i mean also the driver skills, they are cars but even the human abilty matter here. For example the lsd of course help the other cars but you can lose even more than 0.5 seconds with bad shifting.

    Abzüglich dem Verbremser bei LapTime 1:06 wäre die Zeit im GT4 sicherlich um einiges besser gewesen.

    Im Zuge der Vergleichbarkeit ist es natürlich suboptimal wenn 90 % der Test Hr. Gebhard fährt und jetzt jemand anderes. Man vergleicht ja auch quer mit anderen Tests und nicht nur untereinander.

    The beamer and the Porsche both have dcts and that made all the difference I think. Would have been more interesting if every car would have been manual
