This is a step by step guide on how to do a 6000 miles service to your BMW F800GS, oil change, air filter, chain check, brake system and anything in between, it should be approximately the same for all the F800 from 2008 to today, including the F650 and F700.

    Albe's Adv I do my own as well. Just changed my fork springs and replaced the seals, dust covers and fork oil. Changed out the tube in the rear tire and replaced front/rear sprocket and chain while at it. Flushed the brakes and coolant etc.

    6000miles service ??? You need to do the service every 4000km (at least to change the engine oil), if not, you are going to have big problems with the engine at around 40.000km ... The same problems as 90% of the people that have the same engine on their bikes.

    Can you be a little more specific? What kind of problem? The manual says to do an oil change every 6000miles (10000Km) or 12 months whichever comes first.

    @@AlbesADV Timing chain ,followers , tensioner ,cam , rods ... thse things are the first to break. A car oil change is recomended at around 10.000km , a car engine is reving in normal use at a max of 5-6000rpm... now, do you think that is normal to change the bike.s engine oil after 6000miles (9650km) when a bike engine is reving 9-10.000rpm in normal use ? I think not , is just a logical question.

    awesome video, very informative! thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I just did my 1500 mile service and I did it myself the only down side to my bike is that I don't have hazards. never came with them. and its a brand new left over 2017. but other than that, its just as you said, take your time, pay attention to the instructions, and all should be just fine. I look forward to your next video.

    That is strange, and I couldn't find anything about it either, try to press the left turn signal for a few seconds and see what happens, some other bikes use that to turn on the hazards.

    Albe's Adv you can take paper manuals anywhere. It would be nice if they weren’t so expensive but that’s the cost of also having all the information you will ever need as well. I tried the turn signals both left and right, as Iv got nothing. I do have a small blank plate tho on the front of my headlight switch next to my ‘ pass ‘ button and I think that’s where the hazard button would go.

    Albe, please don't ever do what you did with the brake piston and caliper at 8:59. I don't know if the pistons are heat-treated for hardness (the back of the brake pads probably isn't), but the screwdriver can easily scratch both. The pistons are definitely polished and micro-finished because they need to slide smoothly in the caliper, so that could damage them significantly.

    I had to do it that way to get the shot of the piston retracting, I usually une a spanner between the pads, but, as long as you don’t scratch the side of the piston you are fine, the top of the piston and the back of the brake pad don’t matter because they do not retract into the seal, only the side of the piston does. You definitely have to be very very careful .

    what Albe did there was perfectly fine. Nothing scratched, the pad is fine, and no cause a failure as you describe. That was a good demo to show how fluid level goes low, but there are other reasons to compress the caliper piston. we do it all the time. No reason to worry about that.

    according to the manual, the coolant check is part of the pre-ride checks rather than the 6000 miles service, but at 4:14 I’m actually checking the coolant level. Thanks for watching 👍

    Albe, please do some research regarding aftermarket exhausts and if it is nesaccary to have a power commander on your bike when you change your stock exhaust. Thanks

    If you add a slip-on, no power commander necessary but you would get a little more power from one, if you do a full system swap it's best to add a power commander or any other FI controller, the bike will run way better.

    kerosene is the best when cleaning the chain, you'll see all the old grease run off like magic. i would recommend spraying down the chain before you watch the bike.

    In your brake flush vid you don’t use the electronic maintenance plug in to run the abs pump. Is this ok?? What are the disadvantages of not having the pump run during a flush as per the bmw manual.

    I'm not sure, I know from the 2017 on they changed the reference on how to adjust the chain slack, but tge bikes are nearly identical

    Hay Albe i have a question. Is it really necessary to have a valve adjustment control in 12k service. I have no problem with my 800gs, works like a clock. What do u suggest?

    Hi, the recommended interval for the valve check is at 18000 miles, the f800 motor maintains tolerances very well, so maybe will only be a matter of checking the gap without having to adjust anything. A lot of mechanics are of the idea "if it still runs smooth leave it alone" but I personally would take a look in there. 18000 miles is about 29000 Km

    I use a Sharpie permanent marker and so far it's still legible after at least 2 years, although I don't wash the bike very often.

    I'm actually writing the torque settings, I also write the recommended tire pressure on the f800, because I have 2 sets of wheels and I keep the street set at recommended pressure and the offroad set at a lower pressure.

    Thanks Albe. Just in time and very helpful. One idea I use is to paint the bolts with white sharpie so if they move then know immediately and don't need to check torque if the marks did not move. Also I have found this 303 protectant to be really helpful for all plastic and rubber parts on the bike. It's amazing on the tires to prevent any dry rot and it sounds crazy but I think the tires last longer. I even use it on the tread and it doesn't affect grip but take it easy on the first ride after application and drying. www.amazon.com/303-Protectant-plastic-finished-leather/dp/B0185PU38A

    Without buying parts there is not much you can do, you can release all the preload on the rear shock or lower the fork tubes a little, but you are going to lose ground clearance. The best way is to get your hands on a lowered seat from BMW, keep an eye on Ebay and good luck.

    The preload is that knob on the top side of the spring, I'll upload a picture of it to my Instagram account

    Put a measuring tape behind the chain, Push the chain down and see where it ends up on the measuring tape, then pull it up and see what the measuring tape shows, the distance between the lower and the upper point should be between 35 mm and 45 mm.     @@AlbesADV My bike has problem vibration 5500rpm. Check engine normal. Next step I will check nuts fix the frame and swingarm. Thx bro.

    My 2017 700GS starts vibrating at 65mph no matter the rpms 🙁

    Then check the wheel bearings or the balancing, if it’s a matter of speed rather than RPM it’s properly something related to the wheels rather than the engine.

    Yes, if you re-torque after the loc-tite has set, usually you have a minute or so
