Starting my ex-e30 in the winter. It was a m40b18 engine with straight pipe.

Problem there--revving much too high.

I don't know, that's how it was always. It was pretty cold outside. When the engine reached its operating temp the idle is pretty low, ~900/850 rpm.

@@sklipytu 750 rpm is the normal idling speed for these when warm. Your coolant temp sensor is definitely working anyway.

@@bmw-e30 For M40 engine proper idling is 800+- 40 RPM when engine is operating temperature. Everything lower is fault and will made rich fuel mix because of less air intake.

This is normal for M40 engine in winter condition. When you start to drive, RPM will decrease. When engine is on operation temperature, proper idling is 800+- 40 RPM
