Tachometer Fixed with Cheap Batteries - BMW E30 DIY Project ep15

The tachometer on my E30 was broken, so I couldn't see what RPM my engine was running at. I fixed it by replacing the original CR14250SE lithium batteries with some much cheaper and readily available CR2 batteries (a.k.a. 1/2 AA batteries). The old batteries were welded on, but we won't need to do any welding to replace them :-)

This is my 1991 BMW E30, 318i, with M40 engine. Right hand drive, made in Malaysia. I am restoring it on my own, right here at home, in my porch, with some hand tools. Hi. I think they are used for some old cameras, so maybe film shops will have them - I'm not sure. Should be easy enough to find online - look for CR2 batteries

My e30s speedometer is sometimes at zero...the sometimes reads speed inaccurately can you do one on the speedo

Hi. For me it was only the tachometer and speedometer which worked intermittently. I don't think the batteries would cause problems with the fuses.
Where did you get the batteries from?

@@EliasRizk53 Do the Interior lights work? If not it’s a fuse.
You don’t have the bulbs in certain places because you car might not have the options

Inicialmente reemplacé las dos baterías como se indica en el video, pero ni el tacómetro ni el indicador de consumo de combustible ni la computadora de abordo (OBC) funcionaron. Por lo anterior revisé el cableado y encontré que en el splice S319 estaban rotos 3 cables de los 7 que se encuentran en S319. Uní los 7 cables con soldadura de Estaño y en seguida todo funcionó. El splice S319 se encuentra en el cableado que está abajo de la bocina del conductor y los cables son de color rojo/verde.
