Rather strangely, BMW isn't everyone's toy or car. It isn't gas and goes car, which all you need to know is how to drive. It is something where both cars and driver needs to pay attention to it during its life.

It's no wonder the injectors and glow plugs are so difficult to remove when replacements are required, using aluminium for the head and steel for the injectors and glow plugs is a bad move if you don't oil them on assembly because those two metals react with each other making it hard to remove them some years ahead.

Nice but I really don't like to see that they are now swapping out some of the metallic hardware for plastic.

This is the Steyr plant in Austria? Seems BMW has a few of their engines made over there.

Are those block made of Iron or aluminum? I would worry if aluminum as the high compression of a diesel could be a problem. All truck engines in American use a iron block or Ford uses some kind of speical block made in house. I guess they could use aluminum as it is a very small diesal engine and its not for towing like 10,000 pounds like a truck.

Aluminium, BMW have used aluminium blocks on their diesels for years - 2005 for the M57TU2. Aluminium has a better strength to weight ratio than steel.

US designed and made engines are just poor quality and relics, they still use pushrods. Nothing wrong with aluminium.

It's too bad that we can't get those manual transmission diesels in the US.

Americans dont care about CO2, they only care about other emmisions. So the petrol engines are cleaner in that regard. And they think anything over 20 mpg is great. Petrol is cheep.

bmw is simply: timming chain at the back = owner workforce = $$$$.

@@tab8k it is not the timing chain, top nor bottom, it is the oil pump chain

8:06 guy just slams the injectors into the head. No wonder they break all the time.

Why need that crankshaft with unreplaceable sprocket? Missing M57

Sorry to say but unlike traditional diesel engines, this particular engine has an aluminum crankcase.

inner core is magnesium. Its cast as 2 pieces

AMG 6.3 as you refer is actually 4.0L plus these are mass produced engines for almost a dozen different BMW models...

Motor BMW (20d ) N47 and B47 have the problem a distribution...!!! Electric car is future ...!!!

Are you kidding me? You don't just run a bolt or nut with impact especially when everything is not aligned. These people should take more pride in their jobs your getting paid regardless.
