    this video needs to be updated. The 1tb Samsung T5 is only rated for 4k HQ at 60fps. If you check the compatible media on blackmagic, it says so there. I use a 2tb T5 and record at 5 to 1 full sensor 6k at 50 FPS all day, and that's despite the fact that it's not rated to do so by blackmagic, but it is rated for 6k 2:4:1, 5:1 at 60FPS------UPDATE YOUR VIDEO THIS IS MISLEADING CONTENT.

    I just wish the camera at least had USB 3.2 (or USB 3.1 Gen 2 as it seems to be called now). That would double the transfer speed and allow for the recording of higher frame rates. Not that it’s a HUGE deal for me as I don’t shoot at higher frame rates much, but having the option for higher frame rates or at the least some bandwidth overhead would have been nice and I presume could have future proofed the camera to work with the Samsung T7 and others (comment edited for spelling).

    Thanks! Just bought mine. One note at the end of the video where you keep it contstant bitrate. Now that might work perfectly fine for your work but, rule of thumb. Record in constant bitrate when the image doesn't change much (still with not much going on in the scene) and use constant quality when the image does change a lot (lights changing gradients and particle movement).

    50p or 60p matters if you are delivering to broadcast. If you are using a platform like KZread or Vimeo and other social media, it then matters less. In the broadcast world sports are the only shows that use 50p or 60p to my knowledge...which means that any form of capture is then interpolated for the necessary frame rate of the project.

  • @JamesJacksonFilmz

    Hey Carlos. Great Video. Just to clarify on the constant quality. The record time doesn't change until you start recording because only then does the codec fluctuate to adjust to what is being recorded (very similar to how Prores Raw actually works). As long as your image is exposed properly, you actually get even more time on the cards than 12:1 because the camera doesn't have to work as hard, until there's either over/under exposure or there is a lot of moving parts in the image. On a 512 GB Cfast 2.0 card I can get around 160 mins in Q5 which of course will be about double (320 mins roughly) on a 1tb SSD card.

    Thanks for the review. I still think that this is a little problematic considering the fact that we are talking about TB. It's one thing to buy media to record to but how and where do you now storage all this footage? How much will it cost to have back ups of a years worth of shooting like this? I love the option but I would still like to have the flexibility of other compression options like H265, or h264 for those low end jobs. At this rate you will need at least an 80TB NAS drive with a cloud solution.

  • @carlosq00

    @carlosq00

    4 жыл бұрын

    it is actually a simple solution that doesn't break the bank. I'll work on a workflow video and present how we handle the data, but in a nutshell you only need a redundant backup that would be 2-10TB more than all the data you would use up in a typical project. When biding out your project with a client, include the cost of a drive that will house, all the original files, project files, and deliverables. When they pay their final bill, you hand them the drive and storage, backups and redundancy becomes their responsibility. If they ask you to manage that for them, charge them a monthly feel that would afford you the ability to care for their data. This works out much better than it would seem, because it also avoids a client calling and asking you to make a different version of X, Y, or Z and expect it for Free or at a Reduced price...
