As a former sportscaster and reporter, I can say that it is unfortunately their job to do that, and pro athletes understand that. The line you can't cross is when a player/coach tells you point blank to move on. If you don't move on, you get, well, a standard interview with John Tortorella.

Much respect to all pro athletes who have to face down this question in as someone below said, "38 different variants"... of course, the paycheck helps. But hockey players, to me, are a different breed, bc so many seem to play for the pure joy of the game, and that's tested when a critical game has to end on a bad call in OT. Ugh. Just like the Vegas game in a game 7 situation. If it had been the NFL, i.e., the no call in the NO & LA conference game, the country would be losing its collective sh!t. Sigh...

@@bearfcker5 i agree, that's the rule exactly. The puck is batted with the hand by a player in his Attacking Zone, hits an opposing player or goalkeeper, then rebounds back out and is picked up by another player of the team that batted the puck. Should the Referee stop play or allow it to continue? He shall stop play. Rule Reference 618(b). An opposing player must have at least momentary possession and control of a hand-batted puck, otherwise it is still considered to be a hand pass. In this case the puck was, in effect, batted by hand to a teammate, and play should be stopped as soon as the teammate plays the puck.

Eakin's above the crossbar deflection in SJ-VGK G7 was a textbook disallowable goal per NHL Rules 78.5(vi) and 80.3. Not so EK65's OT game winner in SJ-StL G3. The problem with Rule 79.1 is it says the ref can't stop play unless and until the hand pass results in "possession and control ... by a player of the offending team". The Sharks had "possession and control" for only a split second before game ended, giving the 🦓🦓 insufficient time to blow play dead, and once the game was over, the refs could no longer call a stoppage of play.

I mean, they took a goal away from the Sharks in game 2 of the Vegas series that was really impactful. They also didn't call a blown Delay of Game against the Blues in the 2nd period of last game that lead to 4 goals in that period and also missed a blatant high hit on Dillon. The hand pass was obvious, but it's not like it was the only bad call.

Making every infraction reviewable would likely solve everything (puck hitting the net above the glass, referee's whistle blowing after the puck crosses the goal line, hand passes). If it's an obvious infraction especially on a scoring play, it should be reviewed and corrected. The refs cannot see everything all the time.

Delayed broadcasts can save big time sports. TV technology is exposing poor officiating in all the big time sports. The integrity of those sports is falling into question. Particularly when sports' wagering is such a big part of the game. The only solution is to delay the live TV broadcast by 5 minutes to allow for all the challenges and reviews necessary to get the calls right. So the games will look continuous for the millions watching it at home. But may be tedious for the thousands who watch the sport live

Ha.. That's beside the point. It's not only about the blues. The same happened with Vegas. If u think I complain because I'm a fan of either of the teams. I'm not!! But u have to be blind not to see that the NHL is becoming a Joke with missed calls. I just want a fair game for both sides. Everyone who is a hockey fan will admit (maybe not a sharks fan) that the sharks are where they are because of a bad call against Vegas. Even the Nhl admitted it. So stop it with your childish comments. Grow up.
