The bigger issue is the 'non-reviewable' call. Why allow an obvious mistake when the technology exists to get it correct? People are upset because of the attitude of the NHL who says, "the call was made, deal with it!" That is what has eveyone upset.

dseward1 apparently it is reviewable there’s a rule called rule 38.4 that a goal is always reviewable if the ref thinks it’s appruto review it. Usually the rule is used when a puck goes in through a hole in the net or when the moorings get lifted and the puck goes in under them. But technically they could have used it in this overtime to review the goal. I know people are gonna jump on me and tell me how wrong I am because we’ve all heard like 50 times that it is non reviewable. That’s what I thought to but the analysts were talking about it last night in the sharks game at the intermission. Rule 38.4

Won't matter because as much as people don't want to face it, a good number of the players are in on it. Look at game 5 of the Sharks/Blues. Does it look to you like the Sharks gave a F8ck? Is defense now sliding back into your end with your stick on your knees as a guy whisks by you? or diving at the last moment creating a penalty shot? Has anyone ever wonder why one night your team looks like the unbeatable second coming and the next they couldn't beat a HS hockey club? No, it wasn't a hand pass, after they reviewed it on their own, the puck hit Bouwmeester's leg so it wouldn't have counted as a hand pass anyway.

looking at a combination of the live feed and the low angle replay from the corner (1:05) to establish the rough positions of the refs it appears a combination of Binnington, Bouwmeester, Schwartz, and Tarasenko manage to block out each ref's ability to see the hand pass. A proper wide angle could confirm. Of course, none of that precludes the fact that the call was missed and it should have been review-able.

I don't think Meier even touched the puck the only ones who will let it cost them is the Blues themselves, lets not try to act like this decided the series when theres still games to play. I could just hear it now if the Blues end up losing this series that they will blame it on this which I think is ridiculous and irresponsible, the series is only 2-1 its not like that was a Game 7 OT series winner.

Honestly I've watch the replay a couple of times and there's not one ref that could have seen it. The one in the zone is blocked by the def. The linesman is litteraly blocked by Meier's body. (Same thing for the 2nd referee in neutral zone) and the 2nd linesman is trying to avoid a Blues player changing. That's unfortunate for the Blues. The league needs to help their refs in those situations...

I’m a Blues fan. We won the Cup. I still think those refs should be fined and fired.

First off I’m a ranger fan. So my team didn’t even make the cut. So when I say this years playoffs have been a joke for multiple reasons it’s not because I’m a bitter Tampa fan. This goal in particular, the Landeskog offsides, Marchands free passes. The league talked so much about a more random playoffs and I thought they almost succeeded this year with the early elimination of many of the best teams, leaving teams that usually don’t make it this deep into the post season. It was a genuine pleasure watching Dallas slug it out with their opponents. Columbus and Carolina were both surprisingly entertaining. I know bias is largely perspective but I feel that the Bruins are the favorite of the NHL management and are pushing for refs to let them play while penalizing the opposite team a little bit more. I mean 3 penalties in the 3rd period of a tie game can be attributed to lack of discipline but watching the plays it’s not hard to argue that at least one of them should have been a pair of coincidental minors and the refs should have taken both players. But Marchand gets a pass. Punches a dude in the back of the head. Gets a pass. Licking faces!! Pass. I don’t know, maybe non hockey fans like those antics, I know bruins fans do. But as a whole it’s hard for me to say this is the best sport when these guys are allowed to continue to be who they are. Coupled with the officiating lapses this year have made what could have a been a great playoff year into a bitter sad joke.

Apparently they somehow knew that the puck deflected off of the defenseman leg...

After this, the Blues went on to win the series and the Stanley Cup. The following season, they were the top team in their division and conference. Currently, they're leading their division. The Sharks were swept afterwards and lost the series and finished as the worst team in their division and conference the following season. They're currently still basement dwellers and have to rely on shootouts to win games. I'd say that the Hockey Gods saw what happened here and did what they needed to do.

Overlooked is the fact they blew a VERY late lead, up 4-3, and gave up a goal with less than a minute remaining in the 3rd. Although, the two games after they've shown some major aggression on the Sharks, so maybe that's a combination of giving up the lead, and the blow call. Whatever it is, the Blues set a franchise record with their 11th playoff win this year.

Tell you what put yourself in that position when it’s your team and you’ve never held the Stanley cup ever on a post season where you’re smashing people left and right. Most of us are used to all of the bad luck but it doesn’t take the sting out of a blown call like that. Hell we had Gretzky for a season last time we got this far and it still didn’t work. He choked like a fat bitch on a chicken wing at the last few games. Yeah it sucks. But we stay optimistic as cubs fans did and our time may still be now. I doubt you’d understand that frustration though.

The NHL has really fucked up in the playoffs this year. You could understand one major error in the playoffs (Brett Hull's foot in the crease) but this year there have been two horrific calls that decided the outcome of games and both calls benefited the same team. If San Jose win the Cup now, a lot of people will put an asterisk next to it.

For St. Louis fans, this would have been up there with Don Denkinger's call if the Blues had lost... They never lost to San Jose again in this series. They converted the anger, didn't succumb to it.

Going to be an asterisk by sharks name if they win the cup!

How about the delay of game penalty that was missed? The ref said it was tipped by another stick before going over the glass! Refs are terrible this year and may have changed the outcome several times!

I replayed it like 3 times and he didnt touch it the puck look closely at the 3:05 mark it went in front of him might have hit his glove but he didnt swipe at it that prob why there wasn't a call .

No one got more breaks in those playoffs than san jose and they STILL choked. Lmao

To everyone complaining, this is game 3 of a 7 game series. Do you know why they make the playoffs multi game series? Because stuff like this happens. Are the Sharks seemingly the team that is getting all the breaks sure, for this year, admittedly its crazy and bizarre. But to think that any team is working harder than the other and that there haven't been seriously bad missed calls against the Sharks is misguided. You can't ignore some equally important missed calls going in the other teams favor during any of these series. I will concede that the major call in series 1 was too much and shouldn't have been a major, no question. But when is the last time you've seen a team give up 4 goals on a major penalty? I mean really, and despite that the game still went to OT. The offsides call on Landy, they've been calling it that way all year, the Sharks had more than their fair share of disallowed goals this season. And finally, the hand pass...yes it was a hand pass that was missed. Happens all the time, in every game, missed calls that affect the game. There was a pretty egregious one in this game, that in a previous series this year, that's right this year, cost a Shark player a game suspension. So make of it what you will, the changes are a coming, but for this year, it is what it is.

The 4 refs from the game have since been removed from the rest of the playoffs

lol the avs was either offsides or too many men. either way no goal. and it happened in the middle of the game. The blues got away with plenty this game. including a puck over the glass missed call that led to that player scoring when he should have been in the box.

Game 2 had a call go to vegas on a BS goalie interference call which took away a SJ go ahead goal and gave vegas a PP that lead to their game winning goal. calls go both ways but that should be expected if you have ever watched hockey. thats why they use 7 game series

True, you can't complain about every bad call in the NHL. Nor can you expect every controversial play to be under video review. But when you have a play this important, and based on a current NHL rule that just doesn't make sense - when it comes to saying what is reviewable and what is not - you just can't have that. That goal shouldn't have been allowed. This has nothing to do with teams, this is everything to do with rules, it needs to be updated and changed... and I'm a San Jose Sharks fan saying this

If the hand pass had clipped his stick, which he clearly tries to do, it would have been a valid pass. You can throw the puck into your stick instead of dumping it down. The ref could not have seen from that angle that the puck missed his stick, so it looked like a wild pass that was valid. It sucks, but there it is. It will make it that much funnier when the blues win the cup lol

And the ref is watching the play what is it he missed what was he looking at watch the video.

1:01 clearly touches #19. The Puck was clearly going to the red area and #19 slight graze change the trajectory to more towards the right side. 1:17-1:22 is the best angle for the trajectory change from #19. THANKS FOR THE 1080P60HD.

I’ve watched the replay over a dozen times and it was not a hand pass, he was knocking it out of the air to the ice. There was no intent of direction to a player.

SJ should be allowed at least 1 hand pass per game. Refs should be allowed to give one out when they want. ie they may have had a bet or family member involved & they should get some perks for all the skating that they do.

If you watch it at super slow mo, it doesn’t look as if it touches Meir’s glove, yes it looks as if he was gloving it down, but it looks like He missed it, , then it hits the #19 defensemen's shin when he sticks his leg out, then it goes to Nyquist.

I do not know what planet you are watching this on but on this planet it is very clear he hit it with his glove and does not touch anybody. The last replay clearly and i mean clearly shows that

As a Blues fan I was irate.....The Blues were even more pissed and and literally beat the Sharks into submission of Shark......SJ was done at this moment...The Sharks could hardly field a team...happy ending!!!

i don’t understand how they can just let that go when it’s just that obvious

So a critical OT game ended on a no call... I think Blues fans were ok with this in the last series 🙃

the refs are so in favor of the Sharks that they've had a whopping total of 3 PP chances the last 2 games combined.

crazy how the refs forced the blues to leave nyquist and karlsson alone infront of the net

Everyone talking about how Timo Meier hand passed it but nobody says anything about how he was tripped on the way to the net and then crosschecked while on his knees...oh and the fact that Braun got crosschecked earlier in the game and that wasn't called......and the fact that the Blues got away with a delay of game penalty.
