ive been playing b2b ninjas again recently and have been having a ton of success. access to turn 1/2 draw engines and massive scaling threats as well as a hard lock in the surveil lands era has proven its worth- i felt a little tinge of pride when you pointed that out in the show and tell matchup when they played their tapland

In round two, around 29:50 why didn’t he counter the veil of summer? That card can be countered unless I’m mistaken. If it had not resolved then opp couldn’t resolve burning wish to get tendrils. Am I missing something here?

I don't know for sure that the next card is Burning Wish. If I drop two life here by tapping Ancient Tomb, I may actually put myself in a worse position.

@ThrabenUniversity Disagree, I think it was strictly incorrect. Storm was 2 already, so you were already dead through counterspells to tendrils. Playing Veil when it isn't cantriping means it's being used for the anti counter purpose, since you weren't actively countering anything it means they're trying to turn chalice off. Since you're already dead to tendrils in their hand and it'd be turning off your hand anyway, it's correct to keep chalice on.

@@ThrabenUniversity I would consider that if they throw a non-cantripped veil they might want to play through chalice, so I would at least pause and think there tbh, but I think it is fair to keep life total a bit higher

Phil can you please tell me a number to aim for when needing to pitch blue cards to force of negation. I want to have counterspell backup always to protect my combo on their turn. But.. not pay 3 mana ever. Maybe its stretching my deck too much so a number to hit would be great

24:20 why are they able to use LED to pay for Empty the Warrens from hand ? I thought the instant speed clause of LED didn't allow for that before having to discard the hand cards.

That was just a trick of the eye from an editing cut. One LED was cracked prior to casting Empty.

around 17:00 would it make sense to board to Back to Basics over the Trinispheres? If you are on the draw, you probably would get either out at the same time and B2B is more blue cards for Force which is basically a necessity.

Resolving a Trinisphere MASSIVELY slows my opponent down. I think that value is better than increasing my force count.

Curious why, in match 1, you opted to keep attacking for 1 dmg with Emery rather than using the tap ability to continually recast bauble or soul-guide lantern? Was the 1 point of damage worth sacrificing card advantage?

@ 27:54: They'd have to pay the 3 for the cast for the 3-ball and can't since LED lets you crack only at instant speed, so bargaining doesn't do them any good.

But they could've cast beseech, bargained petal or mopal, held priority, cracked LED, discarded their hand, THEN beseech resolves and they have the LED mana to cast whatever they tutored through 3ball.

Thoughts before staring the league. I think you need some removal. Probably a couple dismember on the sideboard at least.

To be fair, the list is ~75% patchwork stompy with lock pieces replacing cast effects

Have I been wrong all these years thinking stompy was midrange value based creatures and prison being tax and lockout synergies that wins lategame?

The *current* meaning of stompy tends to be Chalice/Trinisphere type cards with aggressive creatures, which Prison tends to favor the long game and full lockout.
