MESS WITH THE BULL, YOU GET THE HORNS! Undefeated Legacy Minotaur Didgeridoo HornStill Trophy! MTG

Ойындар

I SWEEP a Magic the Gathering Legacy league with a Minotaur Didgeridoo Standstill list nicknamed HORNSTILL from Patreon subscriber Matt! This deck uses Urza's Saga and Standstill to slow the game down, apply pressure, then BAM Didgeridoo starts throwing giant minotaurs around! I collect an undefeated trophy while showing MTGO grinders that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

At the risk of being results oriented, I feel like this deck was actually pretty legitimately good. Certainly came together much more cohesively than a lot of the memes you get asked to play for funsies. It legitimately does a Legacy power level thing, does it reasonably consistently, and isn't just dead at the first hint of resistance.

56:41 Best trick in the book play cards that legacy players don't know. Remember back when i played a reveilark in a legacy elementals deck and the opponent read/looked at it Thrice and then said "resolves" and then plows it. I say ok i get 2 dudes from the grave. They say "What!" pick up the card for a forth read. Then exclaims "Ohh no i should have forced it." and i Replied "Good to know you have a force and i blue card in the hand, Thanks". And then slight silence XD

Right so what went wrong with Moraag: You played a land during your second main phase but wanted to crack it during your 'third' main phase. Moraag doesn't give you another main phase so that doesn't work. But if you just crack the land during the second main phase then Moraag will trigger multiple times. So here's your turn: Draw, Main Phase 1, Regular combat 1, Second main phase, Play Fetchland, Crack fetchland, Untap and Combat 2, Untap and Combat 3, End step.

The same way that Thoughtseize has historically enabled non-meta black decks to still preform well amongst magics formats, I believe that, with the introduction of both Urza's saga and more powerful activated abilities, Standstill is evolving into a similarly powerful blue card that can shake the meta and enable more strategies like these; healthy as fuck

This was an incredible watch thank you so much. The way Moraag works is it has the untap trigger at the beginning of the extra combat steps. However if you trigger landfall before your first combat, the extra combat will trigger, then regular combat which does not have an untap trigger. If you trigger landfall during your second main phase, multiple combat steps will work how you want it to, but after your final combat step you go straight to your end step.

Regarding Boros Battleshaper, there's a huge difference between Commander and Legacy in threats and answers. Since several Legacy decks rely on a single big creature to go the distance (e.g. Murktide, Emrakul, Uro, Kaldra, Marit Lage) and unconditional removal is pretty rare (i.e. Swords to Plowshares and the occasional AssTrophy), Battleshaper seems to line up strangely well. :o

Brian, the ruling for Moraug is as follows (from Gatherer): There won't be an additional main phase after the additional combat phase. For example, if the landfall ability resolves twice during your postcombat main phase, you'll get two consecutive additional combat phases after your main phase (untapping your creatures at the beginning of each), followed by your ending phase. The key is to make all the landfalls happen at once in a main phase. You could crack off five in a row, plus the normal one, but you can't sequence it to repeat as: "combat, main, combat, main." You End up with: "Main Phase, Combat, Combat, Combat, Combat," depending on how many triggers you get. Obviously, knowing exactly how this card works isn't a huge deal for you (unless this is a new Legacy Staple TM), but just to answer your questions between 46 and 47 minutes into the video about it. I love this deck. I love everything about this deck. I brewed up something like this once, and it was terrible, and beautiful. The Standstill is an excellent touch, and Urza's Saga really lets this idea flourish in a way I never thought of. Thanks for providing this excellent content. Keep up the great work. At 45:20 it just adds an additional combat phase (with an untap for creatures) but there is no restriction on the amount. You can just play a fetch land (get a extra combat) and crack it and get a second moraug trigger and another additional combat. Then after your first main you get the second extra combat, the first extra combat and then regular combat, followed by the second main. EDIT: Nvm you figured it out

Amazing video. This deck seems very viable. Here and there you were a bit lucky and on top of that yiu had the surprise factor, but the numbers don’t lie (10-0). Good job.

The rulings for Moraug are kind of odd. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that, so long as all your landfalls are in a main phase, you can stack as many combats as you want. Since it doesn't add an additional main phase after the combat if you go: normal combat, landfall, additional combat, (no longer in a main phase, so you are done here). But if you go in the following order: main phase 1, landfall + fetch, additional combat, additional combat, normal combat? In other words, you probably want to trigger the Moraug in your first main, since this gives you the option to trigger it again in your second main if you need/are able to. Edit: checked the ruling, so it kind of works how I expected. But obviously, if you do it pre-combat main, you don't get to untap during your actual normal combat, and it will come last. So its probably best to trigger all the landfalls at the start of the second main. I think, don't quote me.

I figured it out through an EDH game a few days after this league: You will get every combat step granted through a landfall in a main phase. However your creatures only untap off of Moraug combats, not your normal combat, so you want to attack normal first then play all your lands second main.

44:44 It only adds a combat step, not a main phase, so you just need to make all your land drops in the same two regular main phases
