In the stall. If you went to 7 burn spells in hand. Once you drew second fireblast you had lethal or an 8th burn spell. Fireblast eidolon. Bolt eidolon go to 3. 4 3 damage spells plus fireblast for 16 or 6 3 damage spells for 18.

People are talking about shooting your own eidolons in response to the tendrils, but that doesn't play around force (I'm not sure if there were 4 in the graveyard at that point). In my opinion, the better play was (since you had so much mana), do that play on your own turn once you had the burn for it. That way you can cast the sorcery burn spells as well, like spike. Obviously that means keeping those cards in hand rather than the pyros, but I think its the better line. There is almost zero threat of getting stormed out on your own turn, and if you have the kill through a force, its probably time to go for it.

23:37 I'm pretty sure you're a near-lock to win if you eidolon and then go face (only losing to shadowspear in hand, and even then they'd need either another mox opal or sigarda's aid to make the mana work). Your turn 2: Attack with GG, play eidolon, pass (lifetotals 16 / 20) Their best turn 2 that doesn't have shadowspear: sigarda's aid, hammer, attack you with a 12/12 (lifetotals 12 / 9) Your turn 3: Attack with GG & eidolon, point 9 points of burn at your face (life totals: -1 / 3) Okay, let's say they don't attack on turn 2 and put themselves to dead. What can they do? You burn them to 3, putting yourself to 14, and their only way out is a shadowspear (steelshaper's into shadowspear doesn't do it since it's two small spells). They have no removal, so they can't get out from under the eidolon. They're locked. On the following turn, you point another burn spell at their face and win the game.

I'm sure it's there somewhere on twitter or something (which instantly showed up on the vid after I posted), but in that absurd game, you (probably) win with Tendrils on the stack...by Fireblasting both of you eidolons first, then Quad Laser lightning bolts them to death. Which would have been the most awesome way for the game to end. There are realistically other ways to skin the cat once we have all 4 bolts, though. We can send the squad once we draw the 2nd Fireblast, because we have the line of "remove our own eidolons, you are dead". If they block, the race becomes a loss for them, but if they don't, they lose to us blasting our own eidolons and killing them.

Yeah this is a line. I’m surprised he never attacked with swiftspear when it was 5 goblins vs 2 eidolons + 1 swift spear. We can assume any removal on swift spear is a win for opp (since he sends 5 tokens in, Bosh blocks 2, goes to 2 and is locked behind eidolon and loses to any tendrils/warren/removal), and any storm count 2 tendrils is a win. Once we have a fireblast in hand, swift spear has good attacks. Attack in, if 2 blocks we fireblast a goblin that’s not blocking, if 3 blocks we hit a blocker, if 4 blocks we bolt one blocker and blast the other. If no blocks we take the free point of damage. Opp has bad attacks, best he can do is put us to 2 (we are losing to tendrils + 1 card anyways if we stay locked up, so losing to tendrils anyways seems fine). Swiftspear damage breaks parity much before the final few cards in the deck.

  • @dkv_

@@Kettwiesel25 I think it’s one of the better outcomes. It leaves opp with no creatures in play (fireblast one of the 4 blockers, bolt the non blocker. This leaves 3 blocking a 3/4 swiftspear which all get eaten), and it opens up attacking for 5 damage a turn, speeding it up to a 4 turn clock. We are always losing to any storm 2 tendrils for 20 turns In a row, so losing to a storm 1 tendril for 4 turns seems fine

That would be an interesting build. Laelia gives you incremental damage and card advantage over time, but if the opponent has removal or can block you loose out on the advantage. I feel like light up the stage is going to be better than wheel for the same job. Stage gives you two cards for one mana vs wheel gives you 7 cards for 3 mana. Stage is only slightly less mana efficient, but it is much easier to cast and you get more swiftspear prowess triggers. In any case I think that laelia, stage, and wheel are playing on the wrong axis for burn.

If you don't want those cards the miniscule deck thinning isn't worth minor life loss. Lavamancer isn't too hot right now but maybe Dragon's Rage Channeler is prevalent enough to justify searing blaze.

So Math for 43:33 is basically the same as if one is in the top 3 so 13.5% or so. Honestly higher than I expected

That doesn't seem right to me. According to hypergeometrical calculation the percentage of going through 57 out of 60 cards and only hitting 2 cards out of a 4off is about 0.98 %

@@rustydfrom9404 being the bottom 3 is no different than being in the top 3 so it should be an easy binomial for 3/60 with one success. I thought it was a 3 of? That would change my math but still. Also just to check I did hypergeometric and got 13.9% with a 3 of

@@DappenAvellon Fireblast was a 4 off, and yes, hitting 2 out of 4 in the top 3 is the same as hiding 2 at the bottom 3. But even if you do the reverse and calculate the chance to hit 2 out of 4 Fireblast in the top 3 out of a sample size of 60, it is still 0.98 %. I think the problem is that you used a binomial. Binomials are usually used for a process where you replace the sample drawn from a population and the following draws are independent from the first draw. (Eg. you would draw one card, shuffle it back, then draw another one). In the case of hitting 2 out of 4 Fireblasts after drawing 57 cards (or the reverse, hitting 2 in the top 3), the cards are not replaced and all the subsequent draws are dependent on the previous ones, so it has to be calculated using hypergeometrical distribution, not binomial one.

I'm not sure why people keep trying roiling over sulfuric. There's so many instances here where you at least stand a chance if you cast sulfuric over roiling, whereas, roiling added nothing of value in each match

It's a meta call, the more free spells/0 CMC spells there are in your meta, the better Roiling becomes. In an unknown meta, I tend to run a 2/1 split (Sulfuric/Roiling) with 2 more Roiling Vortex in the side.

I was talking with my friend how the farther you go back the more broken counterspells are in a format. Standard...who cares...pioneer...OK some counterspells are decent but not format warping Modern...eh counterspells are nice but not necessary Commander, legacy, vintage. Format is basically defined by "free" counterspells literally deciding games. Constantly hoping they just don't have the answer in hand with no real indication needed. Just poof and you lose.
