CATS, RAPTORS, AND ENERGY... OH MY!!! Boros Energy (MH3 Modern MTG)

Ойындар

I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Modern league with a Boros Energy deck featuring many cards from Modern Horizons 3 / MH3 like Amped Raptor; Ajani, Nacatl Pariah; Guide of Souls; Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury; and Unstable Amulet. This RW Aggro deck seeks to dominate the board early on and then finish the game with burn or Phlage triggers.

The best reason i can give to phlage being good is while the front of the card being a sorcery speed helix sounds bad, the back side being basically a 4 mana recurable inferno titan that gains you life is just incredible

As someone that has been following this deck (and finally built it in paper), this was an awesome vid. My thoughts are that you should probably maindeck blood moon if you're playing the monkey pirate, wheareas Ocelot Pride is better on average. Ragavan is better vs tron & storm as they don't interact at all. Phlage and amped raptor are probably your best cards.

I am speaking from a Timeless player and I know Timeless=/=Modern, but the Ocelot Pride is really a glue for Guide of Souls and Ajani. I am very surprised it wasn’t in your deck. As far as static prison, I wouldn’t be surprised if swords to plowshares is just the better option as a clean answer even if it gives the opponent life when you are trying to be aggro.

Yeah, I've been saying this since spoiler season, Not-Dying + Taking-pressure-off-the-board is oddly underestimated. Kroxa usually is a twice as expensive raven's crime. Phlage is reach or removal plus lifegain.

Kroxa has the opponent's choice downside, similar to cards like Vexing Devil or the actually playable Palantir of Orthanc. Those cards are always much worse than they look on the surface, as the opponent obviously gets to pick whichever option is less impactful to them, so you never actually get the mode you "want". They look like modal cards intuitively, but they're the exact opposite. Phlage is, on the other hand, a banger

It's closer to Uro in its Powerlewel. Not Quite as busted as Uro but it will stabilize on its own from a bad position and when your ahead it just ends the game if not properly answered. Kroxa does close to nothing when your behind on the front side and when it comes back it's on blocking duty.Phlage and Uro start attacking gaining life and drawing cards or destroying creatures. Notably on an empty board pflage kills from 18 life in 2 turns.

28:38 Not an ideal 2 for 1 but you could have galvanic discharged, marked one damage on the thought knot and have the other 2 energy to use for mana and then used one of those to bolt it and then have a energy for colored mana left over to better set up for drawing out.

I noticed you kept playing Raptors into an empty board instead of Ajanis. Why not just play the cat when the chance to hit useless cards like galv blast, wear/tear, or even just a bolt that only goes face is so high? If it's T2 it's likely you don't even have the energy to cast a potential Phlage, and even if you do it's "just" 3 damage face vs the stronger boardstate Ajani creates

Ragavan is very poorly positioned in Modern right now. If you had played 4x Ocelot Pride instead of Ragavan, you'd probably have fared much better overall. Also, your manabase is definitely a mess and you could make it a *lot* less awkward with some changes. I'd start by shaving one Arena of Glory, one Aether Hub and maybe one Elegant Parlor for some number of Inspiring Vantages and Sunbaked Canyons. And keep in mind that you faced some pretty bad matchups, including decks that aren't even seen as competitive anymore (I mean, who the hell plays Cabal Coffers post-MH3?) but can definitely catch you by surprise. Boros Energy isn't exactly the best Modern deck around, far from it, but it certainly has more favorable matchups than what you experienced in that league.
