Do the trainerroad triathlon plans include workouts/ sets for swim and run? Or are they just focused on the cycling side of the sport

I’ve recently read a lot of work pertaining to Dr. Seilar’s polarized model, and it’s interesting stuff. He really goes on to say that more than two high intensity workouts per week is overkill, and can even be detrimental. Have you guys seen any reason to believe this? One promising thing I’ve heard from fans of the Polarized model is that sweet spot is fantastic for building an aerobic engine, so they’re obviously a middle ground.

What qualifies as high intensity? Zone 4? Zone 6? Anything above threshold?

@@ProfessorSteez I know from experience that I cannot really handle 2 high intensity workouts per week. The subsequent fatigue will affect my performance in other workouts that week. I'm 40 though so maybe it's age?

bluemystic7501 That sounds completely normal too. In the multiple VeloNews podcasts I’ve listened to, sometimes two high intensity sessions per week didn’t provide more benefit compared to one.

I really think Sielers metod to look at the number of workouts is a bit too blunt. Its better to analyse the actual time spent above FTP vs the time below say 85% FTP. The time at high intensity should probably be between 5-15% depending on overall volume. I can do 4 intervall sessions one week, but it depends what does session are ofcourse! Which proves my point.
