It still surprises me that Arin is so good and adaptable at games like this and Hanafuda, but implodes into a black hole of rage and panic when it comes to chess. And I love it.

Watching Dan play these games gives me so much anxiety !
The Backstreet Boys must really be getting to Dan. He's giving up way too early on all these games
If there is a consistent pattern with basically every single Arin vs Dan game I've ever seen, it's that Dan will almost always win the virgin play of any game but as soon as Arin figures out the mechanics he turns it around... there are exceptions to this of course (Dan just has too much experience in chess for Arin to catch up, for instance) but by and large Arin always wins with a little practice. Because he's the video game boy.
Dan: Loses a pawn in chess "Well that's the game!"
I wouldn't mind Hex having its own main episode. That was intriguing. Dan seems too obsessed with staying close. I was honestly confused, because Arin stated that it was a bad idea, but Dan kept trying to block by putting a hexagon right Infront of Arin's

Hex is a great game, mainly because draws are impossible, and both players can't win. When all the hexes are filled in, exactly one player will have a winning connection, so stopping the other player is exactly the same as strengthening your own position. Offense and defense are exactly the same thing

It was frustrating watching Dan have a string of like 7 pieces in a row and then dropping everything to try to counter-play Arin on the other side of the board who had only 3 pieces in a line.

He reallllly has a habit of assuming the worst in things like this. Just look at Monopoly - "you can always come back, and screw me, no trades". Watching them play the hexigon game and say it's not like Go, all I can think of is "play it like Go". You don't just stick to the opponent. You set up pieces a few steps away so you can build a wall before they get there. The sides probably shouldn't touch until the very end. Though they did seem to discover the idea of KO. Where you counter an attack with an attack somewhere else to try to buy a move advantage.
I watched how they played Mastermind and I was like, "Man, these guys are actually way smarter than people give them credit for." Then I watched this video.
Hello, excuse me. I'm a Hex Grandmaster. The secret to Hex is to start blocking the opponent two spaces ahead of them. That puts you ahead of their 3 empty spaces each turn! It's a pretty hard counter.

My sodie is too cold
Watching 9 mans Morris, it's like the board game equivalent of the kid who hides in the corner and spams one move the whole time to win in fighting games
Nothing makes you feel more special than when some one starts making a funky tune to your name.
It would be so surreal if at the end of one of the episodes they just said "ok thanks for watching the last episode of game grumps bye" and they just never uploaded again

I think they have made that joke many times, especially when one of them is angry they lost or something

Dan is such a sore loser. And Arin is doing his best to soften any blows, keeping Dan's hubris in check.
Holy hell when dan said "there's nothing I can do" I wanted to punch the screen
I love this series so much just for introducing me to a bunch of games I want to play myself.
WoOo! Im early! I love these videos so much and I always look forward to them!
this game feels sooooo cheap. you can literally sit and move back and forth to two spaces and obliterate the other person

It is definitely a game where you are meant to resign rather than actually play to the end.

Its nice having the Grumps sing your name over and over again.
You can put who goes first as random
Nine Men's Morris is like Tic Tac Toe but every turn you flip a coin to decide who gets kicked in the nuts.
I'm really glad Dan and Arin both realized the core mechanic of Hex - knowing when to give up - because understanding that concept makes it way more strategically fascinating. The sooner you know that you can't stop your opponent on one front, the more moves you have to block on another front. Unfortunately they didn't have a scenario with which to discover the secondary mechanic to that - noticing when, even though a front is lost, you can spend a single move to cost your opponent two or more moves. Everything done in this game is to buy yourself more moves, either by recognizing futility, or by causing a speedbump.
I'm screaming at the screen so much but I can't stop watching.
The fact that Arin just didn't use that Mill opportunity at 12:25 makes me rage.
Grumpy bears cursing here and there and everywhere Levels of hilarity beyond compare They are the grumpy bears
Hearing these two sing throughout the vid was pretty wholesome
That moment when the Grumps start singing your name...
God I love you guys so much. You've helped me when no one else could and you don't even know it.
Okay, I think I found a trick to the hexagon game: you can't block the other player by trying to go along the same axis they are playing on, but when you build properly along your axis, you're basically impenetrable. When Dan had Arin on the run for a bit, it's because he tricked him into moving along Dan's axis (parallel to the blue, opposite to how Arin's path should run). Literally the trick is to always be building a viable, efficient path.
Holy shit, the fucking improv lyrics that these guys are coming up with on the fly are so fucking hilarious I don't even know what to do with myself. Like, the super chill music combined with the super stereotypically black female multi-note descent combined with the incredibly nonsensical lyrics like fucking "His name is George" is just so perfect
I recognized the game but couldn’t recall from where until I realized I had a lego elves set with a little piece modeled after nine men’s Morris and the water elf canonicaly plays it with her dolphin in the show
the key to that hexigon game isint to follow your opponent but to get to where they are going before they do
The trick in hex btw is that you almost never want to place a piece next to another of your pieces. Place them so that there are always 2 hexes between them and they're effectively guaranteed to be connected before your opponent can block it.
